Ah, Naproxen, my sweet cramp-killing lovah.

Happy October! October may be my favorite month, I'm not sure--December is also pretty awesome, because I like the idea of Christmas as kind of a spooky-magical time, and also: my birthday. My thirtieth, as I keep reminding people, and I have spent so much time mentally slapping myself every time I felt woeful about it that I think the behavior modification has worked and I'm actually looking forward to it. But back to October! It's also The Month in Which My Journal Was Born, and since I feel very nostalgic and self-indulgent, I'm going to link to something or other every day. Today... let's try... The Lost Outlines of Carolyn Keene, how about that?

[livejournal.com profile] foresthouse: "For your next linkspam, would you include a link to the speech Terry Pratchett made on care for older people a couple of days ago? It's just an amazing, amazing speech and people should read it."

My husband called me at work to tell me Phish were going to be touring next year. Now I have to worry about my marriage failing, because we have compromised on family, religion, kids, money, food, interior decorating, and any number of other issues, but we will never, ever, ever, ever be able to come to terms over Phish.

At least he doesn't expect me to go to shows with him. Small favors, etc.

EDIT: I just read that Dominic Cooper/HDM article, and for Christ's sake, MTV, could you STOP with the HDM-inspired-steampunk bullshit? It did not. IT DID NOT. The series is only vaguely steampunk-related if you look at it with squinted eyes and don't know shit about steampunk SHUT THE HELL UP ALREADY.

Fuck it, I'll side with Simon Pegg to an extent too. I like Ricky Gervais and I think he's funny (though Extras was a letdown and possibly one of the most overrated shows of the present decade) but at the same time I have this nagging feeling that if I knew Ricky Gervais in real life I would never actually want to be around him. And besides, either of the Pegg/Wright films are far better than any movie Gervais has ever been in.

From: [identity profile] greedyskunk.livejournal.com
Ricky Gervais was awesome in The Office, but I agree with you about Extras. The first season started out promising, however the second was pretty bad and the Christmas special was just downright awful. The only reason I kept watching was to see Stephen Merchant.

I saw those women this morning on the Today Show with those baby dolls. That cost $1000 a pop.

I have seen the doc on the full size living dolls men buy.

I can't decide which ones are creepier.

and as a parent? I love babies, love them still, but those dolls just aren't the same and creepy..so creepy.

I also want to see Fireproof at some point for the same reason that I love to read and mock Twilight and watch the Duggar family's new show 17 and counting or whatever its called.
Cause it is all just crazy cakes fun.

The new version will reflect what seems to me to be the more realistic family band scenario these days: a struggling, sort of well-meaning mom pimping her kids in order to create a wholesome-slash-sexy cash cow.

The Jonas Brothers came immediately into my mind after reading this, although their dad is the well-meaning, pimping parent.

Isn't that one of those movies where knowing the twist kind of ruins the possibility of a remake?

As Angel Heart came out over 20 years ago, I doubt that very many of the vaunted 18-to- 30-year-old demographic have even heard of it, much less seen it. Stick LeBeouf in it and they'll come in droves, scary Satan guy or no.
