TONNER DOLL COMPANY NAMED NEWEST LICENSEE FOR SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT'S TWILIGHT

Firm to produce collectible character figures in support of feature film's November 21, 2008 release.

Hurley, NY (September 22, 2008) - Tonner Doll Company, an award-winning designer and manufacturer of high-end collectible dolls and figures, has been granted the license for character figures based on the much-anticipated movie from Summit Entertainment, TWILIGHT, which arrives in theatres nation-wide on November 21, 2008.

Sculpted in the likenesses of the film's lead characters - Edward Cullen (as portrayed by Robert Pattinson) and Bella Swan (as portrayed by Kristen Stewart), - each fully-authorized, highly-collectible TONNER CHARACTER FIGURE™ (TCF) will give fans the opportunity to possess their very own Edward and Bella for all eternity. TWILIGHT TONNER CHARACTER FIGURES™ range from 15"-17" tall with multiple articulated joints for expressive movement and mobility. In keeping with the fine detail and high-end quality of Tonner's other popular product lines, they will feature hand-detailed face painting, rooted hair, and authentic costuming.

Based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling book series, having sold more than 10 million copies domestically, Twilight has captured the attention of readers of all ages, via its action-packed, modern-day love story between a teenage girl and a "good" vampire, who must protect her from "bad" vampires while resisting his natural instincts.

Tonner's marketing division began to take shape with its HARRY POTTER film series and is now in full swing with the addition of TWILIGHT. Romances are abundant in both storylines and have become much more important elements to this burgeoning, sought after segment of buyers. "TWILIGHT was the perfect project to help launch us further into the teen and adult market," Robert Tonner, CEO and head designer of the TONNER Company says.

"I am a huge fan of Stephenie Meyer's work and I intend to read everything she writes," Tonner explains. "She is unbelievably talented and it's an honor to be able to work on this project."

Tonner plans to release other characters from the film in addition to Edward and Bella. "I want to make them all," Tonner admits. "I'm having such a blast reading the books and getting to know all of the characters. I'm also reviewing movie stills, sculpting and designing. I'm completely immersed in their world," he says.

Is that supposed to sound really creepy on purpose? Because that might give people totally the wrong idea about doll enthusiasts.

wonder what price point they will start them out as...
low for the younger fans to find affordable
or higher for the collectors markets?

( btw I cant beleive that elizabeth swann is going for that much )

Date: 2008-09-22 05:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
I know, man. Their prices make me weep, because it's bad enough if you want one, but if you want a whole set of characters (be it HP or POTC or anything), it's like you have to sell yourself on a street corner just to drum up the cash. That's a good point, though, that they might drop the price to make them more affordable for the younger fans. Although they may be counting on the crazy, crazy fanbase to pay through the nose anyway.

Hee! Yeah, I was. The sad thing is, I don't even own a Tonner doll myself--well, I own an Ellowyne Wilde, and that's an offshoot of the Tonner line. But I got that one for Christmas, I didn't buy it for myself, because I CAN'T AFFORD THEM. I was already saving my pennies for a Lyra, an Elizabeth Swann, a Susan Pevensie if they ever get around to putting that one out--I am so screwed. Clearly, I need to win a lottery of some kind.

Yes... but do they sparkle? I think that's the most important question here.

I think Edward is about to become my first doll since I decapitatedgot rid of all my barbies. For realz. And I'll prolly get an Alice, because, well, she's just awesome. No Bella, though. I... I don't think I could take those two together...

Date: 2008-09-22 06:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] madeline-may.livejournal.com
Now see, I'd be all about getting Edward, but... I'm afraid that, no matter where in the house I'd put him, I'd wake up in the middle of the night to find him staring at me from the chair in the corner of my room, slowly stroking a can of WD-40.

Sidenote, I'm having a bit of a problem. A guy I'm going on a date with this week happened to ask me if I like Twilight. He seemed a little wary, so I though that maybe he was afraid I was a Twihard (like so many other girls, even the ones my age.) I laughed and said I thought burning those books was too good for them. He looked a little sheepish and admitted he loved them.

Now, I could've let this slide. I mean, all I have to do is introduce GOOD literature to him, right?

But then he piped up with, "Yeah, the only reason I've been wondering that is that you remind me SO much of Bella. It's uncanny."

WHAAAT?!

*aneurysm*

My first impulse was, of course, to knee him in the groin and walk away humming, but he was trying to compliment me. Right?!

DAMMIT.

God, I hope that's what he means. Although "I want to make them all" means that we'll get an Alice, yay! I'd be interested in an Alice and an Edward, and maybe a Bella if they gave it a sufficient likeness to Kristen Stewart (she seems like a tough kid, I have to say. A good balance for a wet noodle like the Bella character). The others can go screw, as far as I'm concerned.
