So Shelby seems to be fine, although she managed to scare the ever-living hell out of us first. The bloodwork came back (I guess... it was the kind that doesn't take very long? I don't know) and apparently she's totally fine, everything checked out. I'm hoping she doesn't just, you know, fall over again, but given that she recovered after about ten or fifteen minutes and was "prancing around the vet's office," as my mother put it, we're going to try to be a little calmer if it happens again.

Re: Robert Pattinson's hair: I have to show off my new icon here--[livejournal.com profile] wildthyme made two for me here, and I put them together as a gif file because I couldn't choose. Also, this just in: THERE WILL BE BLOOD SPARKLING.

Re: Comic-Con: There are updates pouring in, so I'm pretty much going to do a linkspam now--yes, at this hour, because they're piling up like hell. By order of the Redundant Department of Redundancy, I'm going to omit the phrase "Comic-Con" from headlines when possible, so just assume any news link relates to the convention. Because all except, like, two of them do. Also, I'm going to format things a little differently and do everything alphabetically by movie title, so that if there's something in particular you're interested in, you can scan downwards instead of wading through a random list.

Spoiler-free, by the way. Yes, it's possible to talk about this film without spelling everything out.

Reason (besides money) I never go to Comic-Con: at this point, just trying to keep up with the news is exhausting. I don't think I could deal with negotiating the mass of humanity between me and it. :)

I haven't read the article yet, but that photo of Rorschach asking the panel question is either the best or worst thing ever.

The trailer, the posters, and stuff like that scifi.com article are all starting to erode my protective pessimism concerning the Watchmen movie. I don't want them to raise my expectations for this, dammit!

One of our labs used to just collapse. I know how you must have felt yesterday, I was always very scared when I saw it happen. Our lab would get so worked up running and barking at people that her heart and lungs literally could not keep up with her, and she'd just go down as if she were paralyzed and be like that for a minute or two. It's distressing to see the animal members of the family in trouble!

Surprisingly (ok not really) it was on sale early in some airport shop in Texas. A user's sister bought it and read the epilogue to her over the phone. So the epilogue has been summarized and many spoiler!macros have happened (under cuts which I stayed far away from).

Dude! That's just lame, someone putting it on sale early. I know Meyer was saying that she really, really didn't want the book spoiled or to get out early, and... that didn't even involve any skullduggery like the Deathly Hallows Carpet Book. If you're going to break her heart, work for it, you know? Don't just ignore the embargo like it doesn't matter.

@ the embargo comment IA 'cause even that little boy/girl (?) gave back his early bought Deathly Hallows in a chivalrous manner, lol.

Be strong. Don't read. I am deathly opposed to reading the ends of books before reading the beginnings. I would never forgive myself if I spoiled myself. I think I'd promtly slap my computer and be become an emo recluse.

You know, I used to be a total spoiler hound because it was almost like I'd be too anxious to read/watch if I wasn't sure something was going to turn out okay (or so I could be prepared if the ending was something I hated), and then... I realized I was really robbing myself of the experience of being surprised, and how great a surprise really can be. Ever since then, I've only spoiled myself on things I know I don't want to bother with anyway--movies I don't really care about and don't plan to see, just so I can keep up with pop culture. Whereas I don't read any of the Quantum of Solace links I post at all, for example.

From: [identity profile] starstruckfeie.livejournal.com
I totally agree. 'Cause when you're reading, the nagging "Well F.U. cause I already know what happens" is going on in your head and it screws with all the fun! Funny thing, I was actually kinda t.o.'d cause when I first read Twilight and Edward was being an emopire I was kinda upset cause I already KNEW he was a vampire and I knew what was causing all his chagrin... even THOUGH I think the cover of the book talks about him being a vampire.

I'm good with the occasional spoiler (like Pushing Daisies for instance cause anything other than Ned touches her and she dies is ok with me plus since it's kind of a mystery series show the major plot doesn't really count as being able to be spoiled) but my brother won't even see the trailers for Harry Potter so he can have a full virginized experience.

Date: 2008-07-28 09:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Yeah, I actually started reading the books because people had told me it was about a vampire who literally sparkles, no, really, and then I saw the teaser trailer and was like, "Shit, I'm gonna have to break down and read this, aren't I?" I kept wondering if I would have been able to figure out what Edward's deal was before the chapter where Jacob first says the word "vampire," and if I would have thrown the book across the room had I not expected that.

Date: 2008-07-28 09:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] starstruckfeie.livejournal.com
Oh wow, hey, I think it's kinda YOUR fault I started reading Twilight for the sparkly, no, srsly vampires. Cause my friends kept talking about how sexual chocolate is was and it made me kinda ill but then Cleo came along and was like LOL@THEVAMPIRES... so I really don't know if I should thank you for dazzling my chagrin or be angry with you for chagrining my dazzle.

ALSO, I never went to your teaser trailer link 'til I finished Twilight, so YAYZ for spoiler free solidarity no?
