Re: Wanted : Mark Millar Teases Next 'Wanted'?
[H]ere's the deal... had this movie's opening weekend hit 30 million then we would have a sequel. Had it hit 35 I'm told that's a franchise. Advance tracking [a few days ago] suggested we could be looking at 40. But after Friday night it looks like opening weekend could be upwards of 50 MILLION DOLLARS, with the movie scoring as high with women as men (unusual for an action movie, oddly, as all the girls I know love action movies). I thought we'd be in trouble up against that wee robot guy, but everything's going great.
So... Hollywood logic demands sequels. (The thing you have to remember is that there was never any way for Wanted to beat WALL-E, for one simple reason: the MPAA ratings. The former was R, automatically restricting its potential viewer pool; the latter was--what, G? PG? Kid-friendly, parent-approved. It's not bad that Wanted came in second; it's good--as opposed to, say, third or fourth--and even better that it came in so strongly.) The thing is--I won't specify, but there's a plot development late in the movie that pretty much left me not really wanting any sequels. I mean, I liked the movie and the plot development was logical, even a little satisfying. It's just... why would I want to see another one now? (Okay, if you must have a hint: see the last paragraph under "One of the Great Moments in Modern Cinema.")

Oh my God, Cleo, I saw the trailer before WALL-E and...OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK BARBEQUE. It appears to be an entire movie hanging on the idea that the word "chihuahua" is funny.

That trailer played when my boy and I went to see WALL-E, and I turned to him about halfway through and said, "...this is the most terrifying horror movie I have ever seen." and he just nodded with his face frozen in O_O mode.

That trailer was horrifying in ways I did not think possible. Also, a smack in the head to whoever put the shot of Machu Picchu in the trailer.

So I saw WALL-E with three of my friends and almost all adults were with us in the theatre. At the end of the Beverly Hills Chihuahua preview she says, "Why does Disney hate America?" The theatre roared!

My boyfriend and I both PHYSICALLY RECOILED from the screen when this trailer started. It's the closest I've ever come to bolting from a theater just to make it stop.

I saw it in front of Prince Caspian with a O_o stare of gaping horror the whole time. I tried to explain to my family why it was so awful, but I couldn't, because "a movie about dancing chihuahuas" just doesn't get it across. So when my mother, aunt and uncle wanted to see PC, I went again with them. And... that was when they understood.

Okay, I was an intern who got to read the script for this (back when it was called "South of the Border", which is a MUCH better title) and the story was cute and fluffy. Really, I do NOT remember any dance number and Papi isn't even the main character.

I don't know what happened between that script and this atrocity of a trailer, but of course, the company I was with wasn't known for quality films.

I am both ZOMG HAPPY about Rock Band 2 and slightly flaily. I'd been planning on going out and buying the Rock Band guitar controller, since I have small hands and the Guitar Hero guitar I currently have is a little too big for me to venture beyond Easy - butbutbut now a SEXY NEW GUITAR is coming in THREE MONTHS and I could maybe save up enough money to get the whole RB2 set!

...but I won't be able to venture beyond Easy until I get a RB guitar.

...but I don't want TWO extra guitars, since the RB2 guitar will have functionality the RB1 guitars don't.

...but AAAAAAUGH HARMONIX I LOVEHATE YOU SO MUCH

I know, so did I! Putting that thing in front of Prince Caspian is surely an abomination or something.

(all this Rock Band praise has me itching to try it. It was bad enough when I got hooked on Guitar Hero despite the fact that I have no consoles of my own and have to bum off of my friends, but there's nothing like playing "Beast and the Harlot" to blow off some steam)

Yeah, I know what you mean about Wanted sequels. And yet, my shallow side (which is all of me except for maybe one tiny sliver on the left) knows that as long as there's another bit of James McAvoy walking around without his shirt on, I'll be there.

As for 'Beverly Hills Chihuahua', instead of watching the trailer, I decided I needed to see if the rest of the theatre had the same reaction I did (pure, pure terror)...which they did. Every person in the theatre was *shell shocked*. And then I laughed uncontrollably for the rest of the trailer, unable to watch.

It was a beautiful moment, I tell you.
