Wednesday night, touching books
Jun. 25th, 2008 09:12 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I wasn't in a bad mood, exactly, but I haven't had the best day (tension headache, tension in my jaw, the realization that the premature grey/white hairs are spreading and not forming a Rogue streak). And then somewhere along the way, we had a sudden rainstorm and then I got into a much chattier mood, as evidenced by all the commentary below. Maybe it's the atmospheric pressure, I don't know.

Rapturous Rolling Stone review of 'The Dark Knight'; The Joker's Viral Game Continues: New Edition of The Ha Ha Ha Times; The Gotham National Bank Makes A ‘Dark Knight’ Deposit At MTV; Bale talks to 'Parade' about Batman and coping with success. The pictures here are hilariously cheesy, by the way. I don't know why they're making him throw a football or, for that matter, who he's throwing it to. The dog, maybe? "I'm Welsh, why am I throwing an American football?" "I don't know, man, I'm just hired by the hour. Woof, and so forth."
The Guardian gleefully pans 'Wanted.' That said, this is the first review I've seen that wasn't like, "OMG SO MUCH FUN." I think the best summary of the whole thing was, yet again, The Daily Show the other night. Stewart: "It's one of those movies that shouldn't work, BUT IT DOES!" McAvoy: "I KNOW!" Also: 'Wanted' Man Common Talks 'Justice League', 'Terminator 4'; More Half Naked Real Life Superheroes To Come In 'Wanted 2'; Wanted's McAvoy Talks Contradictions. Is Angelina Jolie just not doing interviews? Because I was going to say, "or are they just not posting them," but... come on, no one's turning down a Pregnant Media Supercouple Interview.
(James McAvoy has second thoughts about keeping his trousers on. "McAvoy's hitman character emerges from a paraffin bath after removing bullets from his body and even the actor has trouble believing he'd go through all that with his jeans on. 'The fact that I have a pair of jeans on is kind of stretching the realms of reality, but I had a scene hugging Terrence Stamp shortly after and I so did not want to do that naked.' ")

Richard Kelly's 'The Box' Delayed. I KNOW HOW TO QUIT YOU!
'Valkyrie' Update: No Cruise Photoshopping. The story here, because I don't think I mentioned it before, is that "according to [Slate 's] graphic experts, the photo of Claus von Stauffenberg had been altered to better resemble Tom Cruise." Except... apparently not. And now United Artists is mad.
Are We Ever Going to See That 'American McGee's Alice' Movie? And by the time we do, will we care?
MST3K boxed set? Omg yay!Top Ten Worst Kissers In Hollywood. Now, see, what I want to know is who the best kissers are, because obviously kissing on a set with a whole crew watching is likely to suck. What I want to know is who rises to the occasion (...) in spite of those conditions. I seem to remember Angela Bassett speaking very highly of Ralph Fiennes circa Strange Days, but I have very little other data on the matter.

Me: Lovelorn emails are written to Daniel Radcliffe, but he's called Dana... what...?
I'm starting to believe that this movie exists, though Fox has done a piss poor job of marketing it. I shall still see it and love it, no matter how horrible it is.

And between Dark Knight, Iron Man (which just shocked me at how fun it was), V For Vendetta and Watchmen -- are we hitting the pinnacle of the comic-book cinematic adaptation? Not counting 300 just yet (I enjoyed it, but I do have that feeling when I like it and everyone else thinks it's just LOUD NOISES) nor Wanted (not a Millar fan), but we could argue their inclusion, too....

I watched that episode the other day in my pre-movie rewatch, and it made me SO ANGRY. Why can't she just be DEAD? Either way, she's not coming back, unless she's some creepy green-blooded hybrid. And why, why, why did they have to bring up Samantha in that clip? Oy, my head hurts.
But I'm still so pumped for this movie. I have faith that it will be a good, scary, monster of the week.
I KNOW HOW TO QUIT YOU!
Le sigh. I sure don't.

Date: 2008-06-29 03:16 pm (UTC)& On that note, I have to quote Ethan Steimel now and actually wish for a musical theatre production dealing with Nazi Germany specifically.
"I've noticed that not all musicals are lovey-dovey. Many have--or are centered around--tragedies. For example: Les Miserables is thoroughly depressing and is one of the greatest operettas of all time. Maury Yeston wrote a musical about Titanic. Almost all of Andrew Lloyd Webber's incredible musicals are thoroughly depressing (Sunset Blvd, Jesus Christ Superstar). Musicals about tragedies affect people's lives. I feel that a musical about the Holocaust is in order."

Date: 2008-06-29 05:49 pm (UTC)But what prompted me to comment is Love Story 2050, yay! I first saw an ad for this during Namaste America like a month ago, and was all "HOLY SHIT ROBOT TEDDY BEAR" and immediately knew I'd have to try to see this in the theater. The spots play often enough that I have the robot dance scene music stuck in my head right now, even. Bollywood=delicious, multicolored crack.
