From [livejournal.com profile] blinkliz: The Daily Show's coverage of Macacagate, confirming what was basically lurking in my mind the whole time: it kinda sounds like something a toddler would say ("OH NO MOMMY, MACACA!"). Rob Corddry concludes ([livejournal.com profile] edda, brace yourself), "It sure as [bleep] sounds racist, but here in Virginia... I'm not sure if that helps or hurts a guy." I like the "OHHHHHHHHH" from the audience after that part.

William H. Macy: Lateness Doesn't Become Lohan. More to the point, "There is not an apology big enough in the world to have to make 150 people scramble. It's nothing but disrespect. And Lindsay Lohan is not the only one. A lot of actors show up late as if they're God's gift to the film. It's inexcusable. They should have their asses kicked."

NYC Officials Want New 'Survivor' Pulled. Meanwhile...

The show's host, Jeff Probst, said the network was aware this season's race ploy might offend viewers. "It's very risky because you're bringing up a topic that is a hot button," he told asap, The Associated Press service for younger readers. "There's a history of segregation you can't ignore. It is part of our history. For that, it's much safer to say, 'No, let's just stick with things the way they are. Let's don't be the network to rock the boat. Let's not have "Survivor" try something new,'" he said. "But the biases from home can't affect you. This is an equal opportunity game."
Probst, what the hell are you talking about?

(I'll tell you what--Phil would never stand for this shit.)

Applebee's taps celeb chef for new menu items. Well, good, because I had takeout from there last weekend and it was awful. The chicken was squeaky, and their idea of salad is lonely lettuce.

Kittens of Darkness motivational posters. (Plus, an answer to our question as to whether pirates beat ninjas or vice versa.) (Hee, "Cosplay.")

Posters: Children of Men (they're mostly text, but the second one creeps me the hell out), Haven (oh, Orlando, you're so butch), and Bridge to Terabithia.

Pictures of movie!Transformers, and apparently people are not happy about them.

Re: John Mark Karr: What's creepier, a man who killed a very young girl, or a man who wishes he had been the one who killed a very young girl?

Austrian girl, held captive for eight years, escapes; captor throws himself in front of train. I don't know why, but I'm slightly fascinated by this story. Why did the door get left open in the first place? Was the guy at all surprised that eight years of (I assume) brainwashing didn't stop the girl from making a break for it the first chance she got? (An example of a similar captive who was allowed to have an outside job and only escaped after the man's wife said, "Hey, you can go.") Did he come down the stairs, see the open door, realize the girl was gone, and go "Oh, shit"? Why did he throw himself in front of the train (which did, in fact, kill him)? I mean, I can think of a lot of very compelling reasons; I'm just wondering what his exact train of logic was.

ETA: Oh my God, "train of logic." That was seriously unintended and horrible. Now I understand why everyone's making stupid puns in the comments.

Sometime I'd like to see Jeff suffer through a season of Survivor while Phil hosts. Or better yet, let Jeff and Julie run TAR!

About that Austrian girl:

Today in the news they showed part of the Police press conference. It now looks like he was making her vacuum his car and his phone rang. She used that moment to run.
He also was seen with her outside sometimes lately but neighbours assumed she was his gf.
Maybe he got careless...

Either way, I am happy she got away and I hope she can live a normal life some fine day

"Probst, what the hell are you talking about?

I dunno, we had a token African American family team on TAR Family Edition with the heinously unfortunate surname "Black". Phil's voice-over about "The Black Family" was enough to make a viewer pretty darned uncomfortable - I have to admit, I was somewhat glad that they didn't make it through the premiere, so we didn't need to keep hearing updates on the progress of "The Blacks" in the Race.

Treasure Hunters also had a black family named the Browns, which was kind of unfortunate. But not *as* unfortunate.

Macacagate: I suspect this is unfortunately the case with many voters.

'Racial Survivor': This is wrong on so many levels. How can anybody be so insensitively asinine? Except, of course, for a Television producer. Jeff Probst obviously has shit-for-brains and it leaks out his mouth on occasion.

John Karr: Why, the one who actually *does* it is creepier, of course. Many people have nasty fantasies they never do. I still don't believe Karr did it.

My boyfriend and I visited a friend of ours out by the Salton Sea (which is deeper into the desert, past Palm Springs, CA), and we decided to go to Mexico because, hey, it was only an hour away and neither my boyfriend nor I had been before. So we drive to the border, walk across, and get a cab. My friend insisted she knew a great Japanese (!) place nearby, so she told the driver where to go in her broken Spanish. After an accidental detour by the hospital (which apparently sounts like the name of the restaurant, in Spanish), we find that the restaurant is closed. The driver tells us in his broken English about "a place, very good. Good food. Many kinds." So we trust him, tell him to take us there, and he drops us off at... Applebee's.

And now I can honestly say that Applebee's food is awful, no matter where you are. Maybe they should consider some Mexican celebrity chefs?

Allen was definately being racist with that remark. His mother was a French lady who grew up in Tunisia, and "macaca" comes from "macaque", a French word for monkey and a slur frequently used by the French in North Africa against the native inhabitants.

He likely thought no one would catch it, as it's relatively obscure, and he felt he was free to be a bigoted douchebag and no one would call him on it.

Eh, most die-hard Transformers fans aren't going to be happy with the film designs, since they're a considerable departure from how the characters have looked in the past. It's a reasonable "OMGWTFNUU" on their part, but dude, I don't think anybody is expecting this thing to bring home any Oscars. Except maybe for visual effects and sound design. Because I believe that the week-wrrk-wnnk when they transform deserves a Goddamn statuette.

That said, MEGATRON IS SO EFFING SHINY. WOW. He's gonna put my eye out with his... everything.

Children of Men looks awesome. I hope the Bridge to Terabithia trailer comes out soon.

Survivor jumped the shark years ago. It was a good show but after a while it was kind of like, "Hmmm, sand? Water? Trees? People complaining about how they didn't think it would be this hard.... Haven't I watched the season already?" That's why I like the Amazing Race since they're always changing locations and trying new tasks.

I've heard that it takes very little time and effort to brainwash someone. And after 8 years, I'm more inclined to guess she got curious to see if she could make some money out of her story rather than it being the first chance to run.

DNA proves that the woman really is Natascha, if there ever was any doubt. Also, in the newspaper over here, it stated that the guy threw himself infront of the train as police were chasing him. I don't have the article with me here right now to quote it but yeah. He discovered she'd escaped and tried to run away from it all. The police found him at a train station and he opted for suicide rather than trial.
