Zoloft 150, down from 200, day 3: Mostly sort of limp and sleepy. Not sad, not really hot-and-cold flashy like I have been the rest of the week; less dizzy. Had a twenty-minute swim, which was nice. And just in time, because it looks like it's going to rain (again).

Also, I have been craving chocolate really, really badly. Too bad there's none in the house.

Head of company uses advertising list to ask his customers to be homophobic. Now, I would just like to say that I'm not entirely sure I believe this. I mean, I believe stoney321; I'm just a little thrown by the fact that a company called outsidepride.com is trying to complain about gayety on television.

Billy Boyd cornered by some old-fashioned LOTR crazy. Suffice it to say, I felt it necessary to leave a comment on the Fandom Lounge entry saying, "It's the fingernails thing that gave me the wig worst. She was really doing that? And had no teeth?" (Someone who witnessed the incident firsthand: "Yes. And yes. *retch* According to someone who spoke with her (I never got that close), there was a distinct smell of urine, too.")

Diane Lane was the inspiration for "You Give Love a Bad Name"? Wow. I'm not sure my world will ever be the same.

Jude Law as General Zod? You know, I haven't even seen the movie that's out yet. Also, Hugh Jackman is probably sulking somewhere.

I hoard Arby's sauce too. I used to have a serious addiction to the stuff, too. I put it on everything. And I mean everything. Ramen, veggies, sandwiches, mac and cheese, and even on ice cream. I was drunk for the ice cream one, though. So it doesn't count.

Also speaking of chocolate, due to the popularity of the 'Dark Side' dark chocolate M&Ms marketed around the release of Star Wars Episode III, the M&M/Mars company has made them a permanent addition:

Many others seem to have received (http://www.portlandmercury.com/blogtown/2006/08/i_am_not_a_bigot.php) the alleged Troy Hake email. The company sells lawn products. It's kind of incredible that the owner would use his company newsletter to promote his politics. I'm just...wow.

See, I believe that people received the email. What I'm wondering is if it wasn't--like, someone in the company misusing the mailing list without permission, as it were. Because it *is* pretty incredible that they would randomly use the list to spout off something like that.

Yeah, it could have been hacked. The thing is, I haven't seen anything like an official response on the site. There's no reference to the newsletter at all, expect a place for you to sign up. Also, where is the regular media response? I keep expecting to see that, but so far there's nothing.

Re the Billy Boyd situation. I have to sadly say that this is mild as compared to some of the stuff and fans I have had to deal with during my time with fans both as part of the convention and as a handler for various people and just hanging around with friends who happen to be guests of the conventions. Billy went above and beyond dealing with this nut case so I give him major kudos for that. I just wish that fandom wasn't so crazed at times.

I have to say that for the most part fans are just fine and most fans are fun to deal with. It (like any group) is the few who haven't learned how to act in public that make it hard for the rest of the group.

Ha! Yeah, you aren't the first to boggle at their name choice. Just goes to show you that those types of folks are so far removed from understanding/knowing anything about homosexuals (and the modern world around them) that they pick names that aren't... well advised.

The whole thing was mind-boggling. All sorts of news media picked up on it, too. Craziness. (Arby sandwiches are a glorious thing, as long as there is enough sauce, yes ma'am.)

Like I was saying... uh, somewhere else in these comments--it's not that I don't believe people received the email. I just have a hard time believing it was sent in complete seriousness and sincerity. I mean, wouldn't it be awful if it turned out that some smart-ass techie for the company was like, "You know, 'Outside Pride' is hilarious. You know what'd be even funnier...?"

Of course, I think I'm also trying to convince myself that people aren't that bigoted, when I already know that they are. Sigh.

I strongly suspect it's the real deal. I live in LA, and fondly remember the New Times that the reporter worked for. Although, I never really read it for the restaurant reviews, so am not familliar with him.

Something about it just feels 'right' to me. Of course, that's 'right' in that I think the article may be legit. Not 'right' it's ok to eat lion cubs or mexican babies.

No way. Maybe I'm overly optimistic about humanity, but I just can't imagine this to be REALLY true. The part about Ted Nugent devouring a penguin right on the ice after exploding it with a flaming arrow seemed particularily over the top. I also can't imagine even the most adventerous food critic just eating human flesh and casually remarking "I don't think broiling was the way to go". I think it may have been parody with a purpose. Sort of a "look what kind of animals we are, that we'd eat these animals" thing. Maybe even written by a moralistic vegetarian. The connection between Alice cooper quoting the Bible's "Let every thing that moves upon the earth be as meat for you" and then eating people, who move upon the earth.... Even his comedic portrayal of the chef's accent seemed phoney. Not to mention how goofy those pictures were....

Because of your love of soundtrack music I thought you'd want to know about this (although you might already)- I have found a band that does music that sounds like the soundtracks to those big sweeping epics. They do, in fact, do a lot of soundtrack music as well (Matrix, Minority Report, Spider-Man...) but their own music sounds like it too. This is looooooove. They're called E.S. Posthumus. They named their songs after dead cities of ancient times. I'm giddy.
