Okay, question. Who's doing this version of "Happy Together" in the first half of the trailer? It sounds very like the Turtles, but I'm 95% sure it's not (faster, and the guy sounds current). A cookie for anyone who finds the real song!

This LJ domain thing actually annoys me a little. I spent a lot of money a while back getting a lifetime account, and slowly but steadily, all the extras I paid for since then have been given to everyone else anyway - scrapbook, 100 userpics, shorter domain...

I mean, I don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to complaining, because they did it for a good cause (security), but still. The compensation was more voice post capability? Dude, I live in Australia. We can't use voice post out here. :P Even if we could, I probably wouldn't.

I can't tell you who it is, but I can up the certainty to 100% that it isn't the Turtles doing that rendition of "Happy Together." It isn't the Nylons, either. Maybe a cover made especially for that movie?

That's my suspicion (particularly given the title), but who is it? And more importantly, where can I download it?

I saw that in the news yesterday, about the Australian prisoner. They had it all over the radio, freaking out because he's "dangerous" and blah blah blah. I wonder if they realise that a man who weighs that much is probably too weak to even hold a weapon, let alone use one?

Actually, he's more a danger to himself than anything. He's the younger brother of that actress, I forget her name but she played that blonde busybody lady in The Dish. Apparently he's got a severe heroin addiction and has been behind bars for half of his life, so he can't really cope on the outside. Coz of that, and his mental illness, his sister believes he's in serious danger of attempting suicide.

...it's to avoid a security hack

It's going to take lots o' my time to relocate and resave all the (pages and pages and pages) of LJ page links I saved in MS Word.

Because for all I know, LJ will drop new organizational changes on us any old time, several more times; and the versions I have saved now may not translate two or three more web-address updates down the line.

It's funny how I do all my shopping online, including purchases from sites not in North America or in English, and those vendors don't have to switch to this kind of domain format to maintain security.

Meanwhile ... I'll save time by dumping the feed from Neil Gaiman's blog, because by the time I scroll to that on my Friends page, the "major" quips or links he's listed have been requoted by my Flist.

Apparently the old livejournal.com/user/username URLs still work; you can just save redirecting time if you change them. But right, there's no telling about two or three changes down the line.

About that cutting...

Date: 2006-01-19 11:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kali921.livejournal.com
That Onion article is bizarre. I can't quite tell who it's parodying, people that self-mutilate and cut due to pathology or people that scar as body adornment. Either way, it's weird. I mean, self-mutilation due to anxiety, depression, etc., I don't find funny - it's a psychological disorder and I don't see the point of making fun of people that do it. What I've read about self-mutilation is that the physical injury 1) releases endorophins and GABA into the brain that calms anxiety and 2) provides a specific, physical pain to focus on which gives some temporary relief from psychological distress, as fleeting as it is.

Cutting for scarification purposes - i.e., body art - is entirely different, and usually not associated with pathology, meaning it's done in the same vein as tattoos, branding, and piercing, for the purposes of beautification. It's a valid personal choice.

I didn't feel like they were making fun of people who actually had that as a problem--they were making fun of a subset of wannabes, usually teenage or college-age girls, who dabble in cutting (and tell you so at every opportunity) to seem "dark" and "edgy."
