Mmm, cinnamon toast.

Not having that great a day otherwise--trying to work, but the Death Crud is still lingering and I feel all ropy and logy and sludgy and dried out. But by God, I've sat here in front of an open Word document all morning and all afternoon. Also, it's (checks weather.yahoo.com) 57 degrees right now (oh, that's a LIE. It's 70 degrees in this house if it's five. Hmm. Maybe this is because Sister Girl has the heat on again. GAH), and we all know that these are conditions under which I cannot art.

A pair of scrunchy brown ankle boots that I ordered on a deep-discount after-Christmas sale arrived today, though. I got a brown purse for Christmas and realized that, for some reason, all of my shoes are black (or sneakers). Thus, something in brown. They're a bitch to get on, but plenty comfortable on and easy to get off. Eeeee, scrunchy boots.

I hope no one reading this has narcolepsy, because I have bad news for you. Seriously, if you do, read this, because Teresa Nielsen Hayden didn't find out that Public Citizen had successfully campaigned to have Cylert/pemoline discontinued until she went to refill her prescription: "Xopher and I and god knows how many other people with narcolepsy, ADHD, and other tricksy neurochemical impairments are looking at THE END OF OUR FUNCTIONAL WORKING LIVES." And if you do use Cylert/pemoline, you may want to take the Narcolepsy Network's advice to write letters of complaint regarding the ban.

(God, I wish I had the power to disemvowel comments sometimes.)

Meanwhile, I have developed a sudden lip gloss obsession that has caused me to sit on my wallet hands to prevent myself from buying hundreds of them (woe unto sephora.com!). Particularly since I got a ton for Christmas anyway, and between Burt's Bees and Tutti Dolci, I should be set. (I think those two are actually on sale right now, as a matter of fact.) I really want some Mabel's Laundromat balms, but I think I'm going to dangle those out as a reward for finished work. I said I wanted to finish things, right?

In other news:

Efforts to Find Miners [in mine explosion] Become Desperate. "The men, trapped 260 feet down by an explosion Monday morning in the Sago Mine, were believed to be about 12,000 feet past the opening of the shaft. By midday Tuesday, more than 30 hours after the blast, rescue teams had penetrated 10,200 feet, working their way on foot for fear machinery might cause volatile gases to explode."

How do you feel about adoring fans, Unca Neil? The answer is typical gracious Neil Gaiman, bless him. On that Grateful to Be a Writer note, I'm going to take a stab at another hour of staring at the screen writing before starting dinner.

While it's great that they found Mozart's head and all, the real question is WHY? What is the purpose of this? It's not like by finding it he'll suddenly write some more opuses (or is it opii).

What is the meaning!?!?

Well, he was dumped into a pauper's grave (or a mass grave, going by Amadeus), so it would go towards giving his remains a decent burial, basically.

They're self-proclaimed literati, and they can't even manage to spell Edgar's name correctly? Shame, if not for the disrespect to one of my favorite authors I might go for the lip balm.

And their contact form doesn't seem to work correctly. They'll have to forge ahead in blind ignorance, enduring the snickers of people who are actually fans of Edgar's, not just people out for a quick commercial pun.

I've got the sludge too. Right now, it's sort of sloshing about in my head and throat and is currently preventing me from getting a good night's sleep. I've been feeding it with a steady dose of Final Fantasy (runs to check) IX and the occassional bursts of creativity in the writing department. FF has been winning out, though. *waves an 'I <3 Vivi' flag* Yay for insomnia!

do you know if they plan on making all the narnia books into movies? or in what order? i'm reading the voyage of the dawn treader right now and was wondering how they were going to play them all out.

hope you feel better. i hate a hot house as well.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
I know they expressed an interest in doing all seven, but God knows how that'll pan out. I suspect they'd do Dawn Treader next, before the Edmund and Lucy kids are too old entirely, and then they'd have to do Silver Chair because that's got Eustace also, if they wanted to do SC at all. So the actors' aging is going to dictate a lot of the order they go in. I think Magician's Nephew and Horse and His Boy are pretty interchangeable at that point, though--they could get away with having the Pevensies be young adults in H&HB, and MN has totally new children. And Tilda Swinton did say she really wanted to do MN.

Marie Antoinette: the settings look right (either it's Versailles or they copied it faithfully) but the dresses! The make-up! The awful, awful colours! Shopgirls at best!!!

This (below) is what the dresses and hair should look like. (The one in grey is Marie-Antoinette. The other is madame de Pompadour, a bit earlier, but you see what I mean about the quality of clothing.)

No, for real, I know what you mean. I'm a costume buff myself, and the costumes from those two pictures look like they got them out of an upscale Halloween shop. Unless I've gone crazy, I think I remember something about Sofia Coppola getting permission to film at Versailles because the curator or whoever liked Virgin Suicides, so that may explain the inconsistently good production values there.

I'm convinced they put trace amounts of crack in lipgloss, because I have an ungodly number of tubes but still must have more. More! I hardly ever even wear it, but it's just so sparkly and good.

The Sephora brand lipglosses are nice, btw, and much cheaper than most of the other brands they carry. Also, Pop Beauty. Pop Beauty is great (I have one gloss by them that smells like white chocolate, and another that smells like french toast). /makeup whore

B&B W lip glosses

Weeeell, if you like Tutti Dolci (which I've been meaning to try, I'll grab one the next time I'm there), I'd recommend Jaqua lip glosses, they're from Bath and Body as well. They smell awesome. I got this (http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2095969&cp=2073258.2083080.2078942&parentPage=family) for Christmas. The pink one smells just like frosting, and the Caramel Cappuccino smells like...well, a Caramel Cappuccino. The Tuscan Orange is really nice, too. They're pretty damn good, I have to say.

They were on sale when we got them (I was raving about them when I went shopping with my sister, who then said she had to get a present for our aunt and grabbed the last one, and I wanted to kill her. But she ended up giving them to me, along with the clear C.O. Bigelow lip gloss, which is great too), so I'd check and see if they're on sale near you, too. After Christmas sales and all.

I've sat here in front of an open Word document all morning and all afternoon.

Oh gosh, do I know what you mean. I hate it when I have the desire and time to write, and then I just end up staring at a blank document for hours. Torture. Hope the crud leaves you alone very soon, and that you are able to get past your block. (Also, it's been in the 60s here in NC as well, which I consider wrong on so many levels. It's January, for pete's sake. At least pretend like it might flurry a flake or two!)

I nearly bought some Tutti Dolci lip gloss when doing some Christmas shopping, but wasn't sure if they were worth it. Would you recommend then?

And lastly, just because: I love the word disemvowel. Way too much.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Well, disemvowel is Teresa's word; I can't take credit for it. ; )

As for the lip gloss, they smell fantastic, and I like the way they look on. They are pleasantly sticky, though--if you're looking for something with a slicker or more buttery texture, this is not for you. But they do go on pretty thick, and protect from chapping pretty well.
