cleolinda: (galadriel sad)
[personal profile] cleolinda

Oh my God, I feel like I was hit by a truck. The phlegm has settled low in my ears and is slowly sludging its way down to my chest. My throat is about 85% better, but I feel twice as bad overall as yesterday. I don't have time for this!

(And if you think I sound chipper, bear this in mind: it took me all day to write this entry.)

Which reminds me: my professor this past semester would bring this little thing that would plug into the wall and heat about a teapot's worth of water, and we would all make tea. But I don't really know what you would call it, and I suspect that if I Froogle "water heater" I'm not going to find what I want. Because I was lying in bed, hwonking and snorfling, and it occurred to me that I have everything in the world I need to make tea--tea, tea bags, loose tea, cups, teapots, a few packets of Equal, even a tea strainer--but no way to heat water that doesn't involve going downstairs. And since going downstairs to take the dogs out was a monumental effort, downstairs = bad at the moment. Help?

[livejournal.com profile] bardintraining: "The Year in Pictures (but turn up your speakers anyway). Editor's Choice (graphic images); Reader's Choice."

Brad Renfro arrested. For drugs. On Skid Row. Awww.

RIP character actor Vincent Schiavelli. You may not recognize the name, but you would know the face--if nothing else, you might know him from the sideshow-carnival episode of the X-Files, "Humbug," where he had the weird Pouch o' Twin. I am sad.

Two song recs from Tony Pius: "I think I recommended Jonathan Coulton's luminous cover of 'Baby Got Back' [previously], but I have a new favorite from the Coulton oeuvre: 'Skullcrusher Mountain.'" (Sample mad scientist/supervillain lyric: "I made this half-pony half-monkey monster to please you / But I get the feeling that you don’t like it.")

The Amazing McRachel sent me a GlossyGreeting with a sample of Cargo lip gloss in their Bora Bora shade. My God, it is awesome.

All "Lazy Sunday" all the time! Lazy Sunday lyrics (not working at this time, but check back later). NY Times article, which describes Samberg's difficulty in explaining "the chronic" to his mother. Apparently she had no problem with "SNACK ATTACK MUTHAFUCKA!," though. And then, to finish: t-shirts.

I think what you're looking for is an "electric water kettle" or something similar. I have one made by Zojirushi that I swear by and love to bits and pieces. It keeps 3 liters of water hot and ready to dispense. I know that other brands make them as well -- Black and Decker, I'm pretty sure, but don't quote me on that. I've definitely seen them on Amazon, and I can't speak highly enough of the Zojirushi. It is love.

Electric Kettle.

I would say more, but I'm tired.

Search for "electric tea kettle," maybe? My mom got this one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004S9H7/qid=1135740988/sr=1-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/104-5117003-6012750?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=284507) for Christmas and is terribly excited about it, but I'm certain there are cheaper ones out there.

Something like this, maybe? I had one in college and both of my grandmothers have them and they are the best things ever.

Electric Kettle. My brother got me one by GE for Christmas, and it cost about $15. Fabulous thing.

Definately electric kettle. I've been coveting one to put in my cube at work, and now that I haven't gotten one for xmas, I will have to shell out for my own. There is a good selection at the English Tea Store (.com); I've read good stuff about the Chef's Choice 677, but have no practical experience myself.

Good luck with the phlegm!

Mmmm, electric kettle. I want one for work now.

Also, words can't express my love for Lazy Sunday. And Adam Samberg, too. I find myself rapping while at work, just thinking about it. Hee. I might have to get a "SNACK ATTACK, MOTHAFUCKA" shirt.

Brad Renfro was in "The Client" with Susan Sarandon. In it, there's a scene where she reveals to him that she used to be a drug addict. I thought of that when I saw his picture in the Los Angeles Times.

He was a cute little boy. He looks like he's in his 40s now. :(

Also, Vincent Schiavelli played the crazy subway ghost in Ghost. He was pretty good in that. :)

Awww... such a pity about Vincent Schiavelli... I remember him best from Ghost, where he was the grumpy subway ghost who taught Swayze to touch physical objects. Didn't know he was into cooking.

The cover of Baby Got Back is so funny!

And those water heaters, back in Russia we call them boilers... at least I'm pretty sure that's what you're talking about, looks like a metal coil that he drops in the water, right? I tried googling some, but didn't find any.

We are getting over the same crud here. I would highly recommend Mucinex (http://www.mucinex.com/). It's the equivalent of taking like 20 teaspoons of Robitussin (that's an exageration-- but a it's a lot) and you only have to take it once every 12 hours. I will warn you that even taking this stuff, sleeping under a humidifier and using Zicam, it has still lasted over a week for me. And the last three days I've been saying, "I think this is the last day." I feel for you... I really do. It's a nasty bug.

I stumbled across your post via friendsfriends and had to answer your plea for tea. Adagio Teas (http://www.adagio.com) makes something called an triniTE (http://www.adagio.com/teaware/triniTEA.html?SID=212237c774413f4c91ab24f6b42f81dd) which, although $75, does EVERYTHING. It boils water, steeps and filters your tea, makes 4 cups, and even warms the already brewed tea so you can have the rest of the day. Adagio has some really neat teaware under the section marked teaware, so check it out.

Sorry for the random!comment.

That'd be a grand name for a band, with intentional misspellings: Electrik Kettl.

Also, Slate on how "Lazy Sunday" might save rap (http://www.slate.com/id/2133316/). Double true!

Saw the ChronicWHAT?cles this weekend and almost honked aloud when Susan asked "O RLY?" Best damn moment in the movie for my money.

Also, I just wanted to say I just got your book (a friend studying abroad in London bought it at a bookstore and brought it back for me) and it's soooooo funny!!! I'm trying to read it in small sections so it will last longer, but it's so good and funny =) And much thicker than I thought it would be. Anyway, just wanted to say it's great and I hope you get a chance to do many more =)

Are you thinking of an electric kettle?

I got one at Walgreen's for ten bucks. The manager didn't even realize it was on the shelf. Must've been from the late 70s, as it has day-glo orange flower decor.

Thumbs up!

Those of us sentient in the 80s recall Vincent Schiavelli from key episodes of Miami Vice and Moonlighting. He was married to Allyce Beasley (Miss Dipesto) at the time.

And don't forget the episode of TAXI in which he played Latka's and Simka's priest, since that was where he met Allyce Beasley. (Latka had had nik-nik with Beasley's character and went to the priest for guidance.) Later, Vincent would return to the set of TAXI as a TV executive in the film Man In The Moon, starring Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman. (And you thought Kevin Bacon had six degrees of separation.)

I came very close to meeting Vincent at a Marfan Syndrome foundation thingy. But he didn't go for some reason, and I ended up not going. My mom and I theorize he did have Marfans, judging by his body type. Because of that, I associated with him, having a similar disability to me and all. I miss him too.

cheers here's to Vincent

Definately a kettle.

(it kinda astounds me that they're so rare in America that people might not guess what you're after - in England, they're one of those inventions that the nation Cannot Survive Without. What do you usually boil small amounts of water in?)
