Except for this thought, which I found rereading Pride and Prejudice yesterday (well, just skimming my favorite parts): "You must learn some of my philosophy. Think only of the past as its remembrance gives you pleasure."

Also, I don't know what the hell is going on, but I'm getting at least a hundred spam emails a day from various fake email addresses from the http://www.towson.edu/ domain. I mean, I finally just created a trash filter for them, but... bzuh?

World AIDS Day links: Light to Unite.

[livejournal.com profile] spooke: "Bristol Myers Squibb is planning to donate $1 for every virtual candle lit on this web site up to $100,000 on World AIDS day. They were up to 21,158 when I hit the site about half an hour ago. Who better to boost the number than your loyal horde of fans? :)"

[livejournal.com profile] angelic_oni: "If you go there and wait until the end of the flash, you'll be able to 'light a candle.' For every candle lit, the company will donate $1 to AIDS/HIV research. It's for a good cause and I know that you have a lot of readers so I figured you might be interested."

[livejournal.com profile] katesti: "I'm happy because today is World AIDS Day. AIDS doesn't make me happy, but the work that I do every day does. More information on World AIDS Day, as well as the state of HIV/AIDS - among women specifically - here at my blog. Today is one of those days that I'm proud of who I am and what I've chosen to do. It feels nice."

[livejournal.com profile] elvensapphire: "Also, since you have good charity links, this is AIDS awareness week, and Thursday is AIDS awareness day (aka red ribbon day) - there's info and such all over the place, but I collected these in my journal and thought I'd share them, just in case, because your voice is heard much more loudly (and I mean this in a very positive way!) than mine is: World AIDS Day and the National AIDS Fund."

From [livejournal.com profile] mysticowl, who has seen it in person: Action Shakes!

Oh, and a little treat: "Magic Works," the GOF slow dance/end credits song by the Weird Sisters the Wyrd Sisters Jarvis Cocker and Those Two Guys from Radiohead. I think the thing I really love about the song is that it really does sound like such a classic, semi-cheesy prom song. But then under that, there's this "last dance" twinge of mortality that turns out to be literal, so... eeeeh.

You know... maybe there's a point where Legos stop being appropriate. I don't really want Graveyard Harry with Hysterical Grieving Action.

Re: Last night's Lost: SAYID!

[livejournal.com profile] spooke: "In case you're interested, here's something to distract you: apparently, the rat-dog of urban legend actually exists. Well, existed."

So it turns out that Michael Jackson is not the biological father of his first two children. And then it gets worse.

RIP Wendie Jo Sperber.

Jesus, Son of Britney.

Cruise Caught in Sonogram Squabble. Apparently you have to be, you know, trained and shit to operate expensive medical equipment. Who knew?

Big Mistake? "November 30, 2005 -- The divorce of Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey will get nasty. They were so sure they'd be together forever when they wed in 2002 that they didn't sign a prenuptial agreement. Considering Simpson made the bulk of the couple's assets while they were together, dragging in a cool $35 million last year, she could be paying through the nose. The blond bombshell has hired bulldog divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, who handled Angelina Jolie's divorce from Billy Bob Thornton. According to Us Weekly, Lachey found out Simpson was going to tell the media about their split via her publicist, Rob Shuter. Sweet."

J.K. Rowling does not exist, says Norwegian tinhat director. Clearly, the fact that she's the priority of the Warner Bros. marketing department and has good business judgment means that she's a fraud.

Off to reread The Morgesons for my paper.

So I just read the article about J.K. Rowling, and that's all I can say: Oh, please. I mean, yeah, I tend to be conspiracy-minded, too, but how can you possibly question JKR? She is so genuine and brilliant, and I'd wager this Norwegian chick's feelings spring from jealousy, first and foremost.

Not to mention, I would find it devastating if one of my role models suddenly dropped out of existence.

According to the Norwegian woman, any successful writer must secretly be a syndicate, because in the past syndicates have produced successful books.

By that reasoning, any successful man must secretly be a woman, because in the past women have been successful. Therefore, Tiger Woods, Bill Gates, and Russell Crowe are all women. Stephen King is secretly a syndicate of seven anonymous women.

I think the stuff that's going on with Michael Jackson is so tragic. I'd be willing to bet he's going to be dead within a year. I mean, what he did to those boys was horrible. But he has so many sychophants around him just doing everything they can to squeeze every last penny out of their association with him it makes me sick. It's amazing he's lasted this long.

I think it had something to do with him getting hauled in on (false?) terrorism charges, I'm not sure--I seem to remember something from last season, something from a flashback. Basically, much like Hurley when he won the lottery, he's ended up on TV for something that actually happened in one of his episodes.

Thank you for the AIDS awareness links. *hug*

And the celebrity linkspam just keeps getting more and more disturbing, doesn't it? But honestly, who ever BELIEVED that those kids were really Michael Jackson's? Who ever truly thought that Nick and Jessica would stay together? Who isn't convinced by now that Tom Cruise is an alien? And if JK Rowling is simply a good actress paid by Warner Brothers, then her books must have been written by aliens, too. Because no silly actress and no big-time movie company could come up with plots as intricately written as the HP novels are. Heh.

Anyone who's ever seen a single episode of Newlyweds should have been able to tell they weren't going to make it. I think the only people who thought they were going to last were Nick and Jessica. Or possibly only Jessica. Which works out well for Nick, as he can keep her money and get rid of her.

There are also Edgar Allen Poe (http://www.mcphee.com/items/11316.html) action figures, one of which I am a proud owner of. His little raven is so cool, but unfortunately for the poor guy his coat prevents him from bending his legs enough to sit down.

So does that Lego set come with an extra head for Cedric with Xs for eyes? Because that would rock... in a sad, sad, VERY sad way.

I gave my cousin the Charles Dickens action figure of that same line, methinks. There are a few more because I remember having difficulty narrowing it down to just one.

And OMG SAYID! Totally did NOT notice that. It's why I always read the Lost post after the episode so other people can catch it for me!

I wanted you to know, friend Cleo!Lauren, that I bought your book about 2 weeks ago... I got it yesterday... and I have carried it around school pimping it out to my friends like it is water for thirsty people... and I think my friends now think that you are God. All I had to do was let them read Independence Day where Will Smith punches the alien out. They were hooked. Love at first read, dude.

The more I read... the more I love you. And the more I realize that you are one insanely crazy person with a messed up sense of humor. Not that this is a bad thing, haha. *grin*

I think the scariest thing about that lego set is the "wands." It looks like Voldemort and Harry are getting into a street fight in an alley and they're about to club each other with broken pipe-ends. Jaysus.

As for MJ's first two kids, I never really thought he was their dad anyway. Mostly because I think that while his skin's as pale as mine would be if I was dead, his sperm (though I doubt it even works at all) probably would still make black babies, wouldn't it? I mean, unless he got testicle transplants or something. Which I wouldn't put past him.

Re: Tom Cruise- he's a nut job, and I'm fully convinced he's not going to marry Katie, he's just going to abscond with the child once it's born. And sonograms aren't meant to be used on a regular basis as a weekly baby-check-in and the truth is that we don't actually know if there are long-term health effects for the baby. (I don't think there are, but who knows)
Re: Britney- God, she's the same age I am. And also, it's really not healthy to get pregnant again so soon after having had a baby. Not that she cares. Wouldn't it be funny (and disgusting) if they end up like one of those families with 15 kids?

So true about the sonograms. When I first heard he'd bought the machine, I was like, "She's not gonna need it that often, and they'll need to get someone in to operate it anyway. Why not just pay to send her to a really good clinic?"

And you're also right about it not being healthy to get pregnant so soon after having a baby...my friend's wife got pregnant exactly six weeks after she gave birth, and aside from all of the physical complications, it left her in a very unhealthy state mentally and emotionally (having to sustain other human beings with your own body for like 36 months straight (via pregnancy and breastfeeding) can't be fun).
