Unceremonious opening ceremonies

God, I need to get the next Katrina entry finished up.
Anyhoo, I'm gonna go ahead and open up the Katrina store on the strict understanding that it is not finished and that new designs and products and things will be added, and on a daily basis if possible, so there will be more stuff. Eventually. But I have to read for class and I'm about a month behind on poem(s) for my writing group and I have Lost recaps to catch up on and it just takes time to change a design from one set of dimensions to another, you know? So the store's still rough, and not all the descriptions are finished, but, you know, pardon our progress and all that.
(Sorry, I'm a little frazzled today.)
Again: I am not keeping any of the profits. CafePress keeps the base price, and I have added $1 to that on every single product, which means that the number of products you buy affects how much goes to charity, not the total cost; it's a setup that encourages people to buy a lot of smaller items, basically, and while I'll put up anything anyone asks for, I'm definitely going to try to focus on buttons, magnets, mugs, that kind of thing, in addition to the ubiquitous t-shirt. Animal designs will benefit the Humane Society; all other proceeds will be split between Habitat for Humanity and Second Harvest.
I don't know if I'm working on a Lost recap or more designs tonight, but that's basically my plan for the evening. And maybe watching the Goblet of Fire trailer again.

Date: 2005-09-16 12:09 am (UTC)How difficult is it, btw, to resize the button design for mini-buttons? I just prefer those for size, so I'd be dancing on the chair if you could make some more of them when you have a chance. :)

Anyone who, given 48 hours to evacuate, cannot manage to get themselves out of the path of a hurricane, is a terminally stupid genetic defective. These people literally had the time to WALK out of harm's way, if they had shown the personal initiative and survival instinct of even the lowliest cockroach.
So, before you throw away money helping the "victims" of Katrina, keep in mind that these are people that, in nature, would already have been removed by natural selection. They are the dumbest of the dumb, the most useless, the most violent, the most disruptive, the very dregs of society. Let them starve. Let them die of disease. Hell, if you stumble on one, put a bullet right between his beady eyes or a shotgun blast between her fat lips. This is an opportunity to remove the weak and the worthless from the gene pool. Do not waste it!
I am so infuriated right now that I'm actually shaking. How could someone say something like this?!

Date: 2005-09-16 12:22 am (UTC)Will you sign my book?
Hon, I'll sign anything you put in front of me. Now, how we get your book to me is something I haven't figured out yet, because it seems like mailing them to me and me mailing them back is kind of expensive. I'm looking into something involving bookplate stickers, so if anyone knows of other writers who've done that, let me know; it might help.
I would donate good money for one of them thar bookplates. So, I suspect, would a lot of people. Sounds like a low-overhead, high-charity-percentage way to get some support just when people want you (NOT THAT WAY. SHUP, PERV) and you have something to ask of them in return.

Date: 2005-09-16 01:13 am (UTC)That 'It's okay! I'm part mermaid!' line reminds me of the Christmas play my friend and I wrote for the drama club a few years back. We were trying to pick a Christmas story to mess around with and I trivaed that in Russia they do 'Swan Lake' at Christmas instead of 'The Nutcracker'. Which spawned 'Nutcracker Lake', a combination of the two. Our heroine, Claudette (Clara + Odette) was a swan during the day because of a mis-cast spell from her Uncle Drosselmeyer, spawning the frequently repeated line of 'Good thing I'm part swan!'. Ah, good times.
