Note: this poll is a separate entry because the LJ poll function hates me. Please read the previous entry--this is a separate effort from last December.
Oh, I get it now. ^_^;; That'll teach me to read my flist out of order... In any case, I'd love to donate, but making money transactions over the internet makes me nervous. Is there another option?
I'm going to do a donation first thing Monday morning through Amazon. I have some stuff to pick up today and am poor as hell, which means I have to finagle my finances first. But there will be a donation within 72 hours, dernit.
I gave $10. I know what it's like to be sick and need the money. I really wish I could give more, I just don't have the means. As for those people who think that one dollar won't do anything, tell them to donate $5 instead. Being sick for along amount of time is the worst. Then add all the doctor's visits and the pain. Trust me, one dollar is the least someone could do.
I wonder if she's elligible now for Social Security or Medicare or something like that, now that her husband is going to be out of a job? Not that it'll do much for a $1000+ bill, but still, it would certainly be a help for her.
since she did not work enough year (gov does not favor stay at home moms) she will not be eligible for social security disability or medicare. Her husband will be eligible for unemployment for 6 months - which will be far less that his salary. Without a job, they lose medical benefits - COBRA will cost them $1200 month.
thank you for doing this. made my donation. i know how it is to be out of work and sick...i'm just lucky that i'm prior military and could go to the VA.
I feel bad, y'all. I can't donate anything yet. I have to save every cent until I've got enough to have my wisdom teeth cut out. I like having a spouse that works for a cable company, 'cause I get free internet service and stuff, but the dental plan sucks goats through fine gauze.
I can make everyone I know buy stuff through Christina's Amazon link, though. That's something, at least.
I saw on the website that you're auctioning off things to help, as well. Is this something you're still doing? I crochet, and I was thinking that maybe I could help that way.
As someone who is newly insuranceless, I'm starting to understand how bills can pile up. Luckily my health problems are relatively minor. I socked in a few bucks, wish I could do more.
The American Cancer Society has "Hope Lodges" around the country where cancer patients can stay for free while they're getting treatments. My friend works at one in Cincinnati. I'm sure Christina has looked into this, but you might want to let her know to check it out on the off-chance she hasn't heard of it.
$5. (My cousin is on SSI and has never worked due to severe epilepsy. She needs to get a pro bono attorney. SSI always turns you down the first 2-3 times you apply.)
you don't need a pro bono attorney- she should look for an experienced SSI atty - after you are denied they take a cut of your recovery (no more than $5k total). Have your relative contact the nearest Center For Independent Living Center (do a google search under this name and your town)- they have referrals.
A fiver from a broke high school student. Christina will be in my thoughts when I do the ACS's Relay for Life in June. It's so hard to get by in this world...
