since she did not work enough year (gov does not favor stay at home moms) she will not be eligible for social security disability or medicare. Her husband will be eligible for unemployment for 6 months - which will be far less that his salary. Without a job, they lose medical benefits - COBRA will cost them $1200 month.

ahh, dang, that sucks a lot.

I had a kidney transplant and thankfully got on Social Security. It's a shame it doesn't work out the same for everyone.
