Jul. 12th, 2004 09:40 pmStill working on "King Arthur in Fifteen Minutes." Bad storm today--had to shut down for a while. Finished Perfume while I was waiting--very good, and one of those books you read and you finish and you think, "Well, that was one of a kind." The funny thing was, it's not only set in the 1700s but actually reminded me of books I'd read for my 18th C. lit class--Candide, for example.
Having a lot of fun with "King Arthur"--much easier than the Harry Potter one, mostly because it's easier to make fun of. Cleaning old files off my computer at the moment, as I've dipped below 200 mb available storage again, and Betsy is freezing up with alarming frequency. Have switched from MP3 player to CD/stereo to ease the workload for her--probably for the best, because "Bailamos" came on my random MP3 mix while I was writing, and I could totally imagine Arthur and Guinevere salsa dancing. (Good luck trying to get that image out of your head now!)
Anyway. Am way behind on Crappy Random Things That Have to Be Done, but whatever; saw a movie, read a book, wrote some good stuff. I've just given up trying to be funny or trying to live up to anything previous and have just been jotting down things that made me, personally, laugh.
GUINEVERE: Hey, baby! Hey baby, you so fine, baby!
ARTHUR: *keeps riding*
GUINEVERE: I've heard lots of stories about you, about how you're a big strong killative man.
ARTHUR: *keeps riding*
GUINEVERE: Hey, can I borrow a cup of sex?
ARTHUR: *rides away*
GUINEVERE: DAMMIT.
(Warning: If you feed me jokes, I can't use them. It's partly a copyright liability thing, and partly a pride thing--I want to think things up all by myself like a big girl. Also: No Monty Python. Mostly because I've seen very little [Meaning of Life, a few Flying Circus episodes]. Yes, I know that makes me a very inferior human being. You're going to have to do the "Knights who say 'Ni!'" thing for yourself.)

It's funny because it's TRUE.

Date: 2004-07-12 08:48 pm (UTC)I've never understood that "you should/should have made this joke" thing. For some reason it really annoys me.
I almost said something rude when somebody said about one of your movies in 15 minutes, "It was good, but you should have done the scene like this..." and then proceeded to write a scene that was far less funny than yours.
Meh, I don't get people some times.
And why would you want to make a joke that's already been made?
And I definitely already made the Monty Python jokes while I was watching the movie, so I don't need you to make them.
I'll enjoy reading the ones you do make. :)

Date: 2004-07-12 09:15 pm (UTC)...Or am I confusing you with someone else who had a pc problem?
(No...can't be that. Confuse Cleo with someone else, that is.)

Date: 2004-07-12 09:42 pm (UTC)What's your budget and what's the work you're going to be doing on your new machine?
You'd do really well to get a new pc, network it with Betsy, wipe Betsy (then rebuild and do little mods - more RAM and drivespace maybe?) and make Betsy your backup.
I've gone on and on haven't I? (:
PS. I don't work for HP nor BB, but they are the most accessible of the lot.

I made a icon from those pictures you linked to. It's a little weird, but I like it.

Date: 2004-07-13 04:10 am (UTC)I finally made it to LJ, and it seems just in time before everything goes friends/members only.
I've been thinking about doing something with trailer links for quite some time. Finally I was able to come up with a solution that fulfills most goals I wanted to accomplish and after the first month or so, it seems I am able to keep it current.
Now that you're trying to get back into the groove at the
MonthlyWeeklyDaily Digest I suggest that you take a look.It also seems that all the Park Rangers are taking their summer break at the same time. Vladimir might want to take a look at the archive (http://www.rehtnug.privat.t-online.de/index.htm) because I got the impression that sometimes he likes to download a trailer or two.
Perfume: One of the reasons I read it was that there have been rumors for years that the book will be made into a movie (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0396171/). But after reading the book I've been wondering, if it is a good idea to make a story about smells without a lot of dialogue into a film.
The usual question: Do you mind if I friend you?
And last not least, better late than never, congrats to your well-deserved publishing contract.

Date: 2004-07-13 09:07 am (UTC)Yeah, that's partly why I wanted to get the book--last I heard the movie was to involve Ridley Scott and Orlando Bloom, and I like Orlando, but he is so incredibly wrong for Grenouille. Actually, I could sort of see Ewan McGregor doing it--he's one of those not-pretty-but-sexy types.
I also spent the last half of the book trying to imagine how the hell you'd film it. I had a few ideas, but... yeah. Smell is not easy to film.

Date: 2004-07-13 11:04 am (UTC)Are you doing your parody from your head? If so, you have a much better memory than I do. I'm currently stuck on the baby's arm/apple thingy. I can't remember what comes after that. (I'm trying to write a parody too, I posted the first bit I wrote here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/lilangeldaae/59718.html ...Mostly as a reaction to the fact that people got mad at me for not liking new!Guinevere. Not as funny, but this means that I have to finish writing before you post m15m, or else your jokes will invade my braaain.)
I totally knew you'd do an awesome KA m15m. Yay, can't wait!!
And now I'm picturing Guin and Arthur salsa dancing, kthanxbai.

Date: 2004-07-13 11:26 am (UTC)And yeah, I took very sketchy notes, mostly scene titles ("Stable of Faith"), but I've come to realize that I've got to gun these things out in the first six hours after I see the movie, or I can't remember anything.
