GALADRIEL SMASH!
Jul. 2nd, 2004 11:17 pmOh, for fuck's sake. This is either a troll or someone whose friend has pulled the wool over her eyes:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/cleolinda/99710.html?thread=1623678
http://www.livejournal.com/users/cleolinda/99896.html?thread=1623864
Either way, I'm stressed enough as it is without having to deal with "OMG *U* R TEH STEELR!" too.
ETA: I have the IP numbers of both comments; they're the same. From an ISP in New Zealand, of all places. (Given how much money I have spent on the Lord of the Rings movies and associated merchandise, I feel deeply betrayed.) (That's a joke, people.) The IP does NOT match Self-Confidence Boy's comment, so it's not directly related to the ff.net kerfluffle.
I know a lot of people visit from non-LJ links, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to turn off anonymous comments here and at
m15m until things settle down, because if you want to accuse me of something, you can damn well have the balls to leave a name.

Hmm. I was not aware that one could be a troll on one's own journal. These peons have such amusing ideas, no?

*white-glove claps* Oh, good show! I think it's a great idea; you'll cut down on a lot of crap. I am utterly using you to plan my coronation after I marry royalty.
(I have no idea why I'm channeling the Queen, either, but I do so enjoy it. We shall have the bastards beheaded.)

Date: 2004-07-02 10:13 pm (UTC)Yeah, I got that new Galadriel icon just because of all the petty shit this week that I've been letting get to me because I'm not used to it. Also, I had a good-sized margarita (and I don't drink very often), so I'm a little punchy tonight as it is.

Date: 2004-07-02 10:19 pm (UTC)Anywho, I don't believe it and, while that might not mean much, I'm a bit on the crazy side so if you want, I could track down the kid a la Jay and Silent Bob and kick the snot out of him ... have you seen J&SBob Strikes Back? That's really not funny if you haven't =\
New Icon -- *adores* That's wicked! =D
Have at them!
Date: 2004-07-02 10:48 pm (UTC)(Cleo, if you don't feel this is right, please delete this post.)
http://irin.revsaxon.org/archives/000750.html - they have the nerve to run this disclaimer: "Harry Potter and all these other characters belong to JK and im [sic] just borrowing them because I'm bored." I rarely ever use this combination of letters, but - WTF???????
http://www.geocities.com/thinkanti/ - *sigh*
The second one is just ignorant of the law, but the first one is actively trying to pass it off as her own - "I'm just borrowing them, etc." If anyone else has time on their hands, just take a phrase from the first couple of lines of any of Cleo's parodies and you'll be disgusted at what you find. On the up side, I came across quite a few sites doing the right thing; either only including a few snippets with a link, or acknowledging Cleo and providing a link. Cleo - you'll be pleased to know there's even a Swedish HP fan site who love it! (They still had it in English - obviously hadn't gone to the effort of translating it like the other one I found. Did you ever find out what language that was?)
Once more, if Cleo or anyone else thinks I'm wrong to be putting these links here, just comment and I'll remove it.

Date: 2004-07-02 11:24 pm (UTC)To that end, I would like to recommend a site. Creative Commons (http://creativecommons.org/). It's not overly official but this way, you're registered somewhere public for people to know. Hope that helps. If not, just know there are a lot of people to vouch for you.

Date: 2004-07-02 11:25 pm (UTC)U R TEH STEELR!!! should be made into a Cafepress tee, available only in XXL.
Life is irony.
PS. Is "U R TEH STEELR" going to be made by you into an icon, for irony's sake?)
PPS. Simple math ensues.
If Cleo has 100 loyal readers and each of the Loyal Hundred posts a fessup to these asshats' (to borrow a term) journals every 15 minutes, then
100 x 15 = 1500 x 4 (hour) = 6K per hour. Please note that a hundred is a conservative estimate.

I think the expert in U R TEH STEELR extermination is the oft-quoted, oft-imitated, never equaled Rain Noe. His LJ is hipstomp (http://www.livejournal.com/users/hipstomp/).
He's like the male version of Cleo. Somewhat.
Say the word. Release the hounds.

Date: 2004-07-03 01:50 am (UTC)I've been following these antics for the past few days and I have to say I have never been more disgusted at the American Education System as I have been seeing it in action. I was originally linked by a friend to your Harry Potter m15m, who in turn got it from some potter site, so I understand it's widespread, but I don't get how people don't see that widespread doesn't mean "This is Up for Grabs Just for You to Steal for your Very Own!". >.> I was disgusted further at my ISP provider who didn't allow me to be there in time to flame your first offender. Now I'm even more disgusted at my sisters for coming into town and not allowing me to be here in time to flame this second one!! (Yes that last bit is a joke...I'm really just mad that they didn't bring me any more miniatures of Smeagol ; ; )
I truly hope everything gets resolved with the ISP and with your anonymous 'OMG UR TEH STEELER' buddies. Just remember, so many people are stealing your work because you're just that good! And when you're rich and famous, you can hire armed mercenaries to track them down and rip each individual hair from their head while they repeat "I will not steal!" Preferably New Zealanders. So you don't have to pay extra transportation fees.
