cleolinda: (GALADRIEL SMASH!)
[personal profile] cleolinda

Oh, for fuck's sake. This is either a troll or someone whose friend has pulled the wool over her eyes:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/cleolinda/99710.html?thread=1623678

http://www.livejournal.com/users/cleolinda/99896.html?thread=1623864

Either way, I'm stressed enough as it is without having to deal with "OMG *U* R TEH STEELR!" too.

ETA: I have the IP numbers of both comments; they're the same. From an ISP in New Zealand, of all places. (Given how much money I have spent on the Lord of the Rings movies and associated merchandise, I feel deeply betrayed.) (That's a joke, people.) The IP does NOT match Self-Confidence Boy's comment, so it's not directly related to the ff.net kerfluffle.

I know a lot of people visit from non-LJ links, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to turn off anonymous comments here and at [livejournal.com profile] m15m until things settle down, because if you want to accuse me of something, you can damn well have the balls to leave a name.

You've GOT to be kidding me right? Come on, you are the only person that does M15M. Jesus people. WHY MUST EVERYONE BE SO INTO DRAMA?!

...o_O

Do you have IP logging? Maybe you can trace who left those messages?

Hey hey, I do--how do I trace the IP number?

I bet its the same idoit that stole your stuff to start with.

Well you can use it to check to see if they're from the same person (and I'd suggest check them against the ip of the person that stole your work)

And what do I do with the result? It's something .co.nz...? (New Zealand?)

From: [identity profile] afropuff.livejournal.com
I'm thinkin' that you just need to ignore it. A good roll of the eyes and a big ole "what the fuck ever." You know that you wrote it. Everyone freakin' knows that you wrote it. It's probabaly a troll anyway ... or that ff.net kid.

*hugs*

Well, it's an anon comment, so I don't think it's really going to do any good to yell at them. It's not going to end up in their inbox or anything, and I'm taking steps to look up their IP number.

Date: 2004-07-02 09:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] divabat.livejournal.com
Hmm, I'm not sure what else you can do with the result. It just tells you that the person writing the comments is from New Zealand.

Someone else said to check it out with the IP address of the people that have stolen your work. Maybe there's some sort of connection?

Date: 2004-07-02 09:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Yeah--but which people? There's about ten instances that I know of, not to mention the ones I don't yet. I'll go look at our boy from yesterday, though.

Thanks. I think that people know me--and my writing style--well enough not to believe it. My fear is that this is going to escalate into some sort of flamewar that's going to cause me professional damage, and I ain't havin' that over some teenie troll.

Can you ban the ip address?

Date: 2004-07-02 10:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
I've banned anon comments, but I don't want to ban the IP (as of yet), because if these two kids want to bring it on, then let them bring it the fuck on. You don't just accuse people of trumped-up shit like this, and I would LOVE to get my hands on them.

You always know how to accessorize your distress with the proper icon, which is a high art, comparable to knowing which fan to bring to a duchess's ball.

ASSHAT TROLL!

Hmm. I was not aware that one could be a troll on one's own journal. These peons have such amusing ideas, no?

I'm going to have to turn off anonymous comments here and at m15m until things settle down, because if you want to accuse me of something, you can damn well have the balls to leave a name.

*white-glove claps* Oh, good show! I think it's a great idea; you'll cut down on a lot of crap. I am utterly using you to plan my coronation after I marry royalty.

(I have no idea why I'm channeling the Queen, either, but I do so enjoy it. We shall have the bastards beheaded.)

Hee. I'm pretty sure that "ASSHAT TROLL!" is in response to--well, the troll, not to me.

Yeah, I got that new Galadriel icon just because of all the petty shit this week that I've been letting get to me because I'm not used to it. Also, I had a good-sized margarita (and I don't drink very often), so I'm a little punchy tonight as it is.

Oh man, that's crazy! I...wow. The price of fame indeed. I haven't even met you in person and I want to lay the proverbial beat down (but I shan't, for I will not feed the trolls). I've known you since I got my lj so you count as a very good friend whom I shall defend against the trollage. That's just ignorant, yo. Don't they realize that you've done a crapload of fifteen minute movies? Bah to the lot of 'em says I. You've got an army behind your back (kinda like Dumbledore's Army without the secrecy).

I'm sure no one really believes it because, hello, there's like a ton of m15m out there *ponders when she started channeling valley girls*

Anywho, I don't believe it and, while that might not mean much, I'm a bit on the crazy side so if you want, I could track down the kid a la Jay and Silent Bob and kick the snot out of him ... have you seen J&SBob Strikes Back? That's really not funny if you haven't =\

New Icon -- *adores* That's wicked! =D

Have at them!

I was holding back before and not leaving the links to people who have stolen Cleo's work, but I'm so bloody sick of it. Therefore, please follow these links and destroy the self-confidence of the following people. If we can teach these few people not to steal, then we're doing a good thing, I feel.

(Cleo, if you don't feel this is right, please delete this post.)

http://irin.revsaxon.org/archives/000750.html - they have the nerve to run this disclaimer: "Harry Potter and all these other characters belong to JK and im [sic] just borrowing them because I'm bored." I rarely ever use this combination of letters, but - WTF???????

http://www.geocities.com/thinkanti/ - *sigh*

The second one is just ignorant of the law, but the first one is actively trying to pass it off as her own - "I'm just borrowing them, etc." If anyone else has time on their hands, just take a phrase from the first couple of lines of any of Cleo's parodies and you'll be disgusted at what you find. On the up side, I came across quite a few sites doing the right thing; either only including a few snippets with a link, or acknowledging Cleo and providing a link. Cleo - you'll be pleased to know there's even a Swedish HP fan site who love it! (They still had it in English - obviously hadn't gone to the effort of translating it like the other one I found. Did you ever find out what language that was?)

Once more, if Cleo or anyone else thinks I'm wrong to be putting these links here, just comment and I'll remove it.

Cleo, is your work copyrighted? Because if it's not, anyone can take it. Someone could even copyright it and leave you like Paul McCartney trying to buy your own material back from Michael Jackson. I've stopped posting a lot of my stuff, just for that reason. btw. I think you're 15 m movies are brilliant.

Wow... aside from all plagiarism issues... that second site has the most hellish non-layout I've ever seen. I'm almost not even upset about the theft, because there is no way in hell anyone would scroll far enough down to see it.

Hehe - yes, that did occur to me, too. Most people would probably have gone to do something about their headache before they managed to get to the rip-off...

I think that it's time to preface every "movie in fifteen minutes" post with "OMG DUN STEEL!" in neon letters. Blinking of some sort might also need to be involved.

*sigh*

People really are teh stupid some times.
