TONNER 2010 SUMMER LINE

I DO NOT LIKE THE ALICE

I DO NOT LIKE THE OUTFIT

ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT THE WORST ONE IN NEW MOON

THE ONE THAT LOOKED LIKE THE PAINTER'S SMOCK

IN VOLTERRA

MAYBE THE NEXT PROTOTYPE PICTURE WILL BE BETTER

MAYBE I CAN MESS THE HAIR UP

(ETA: Okay, look, people. "I can mess the hair up" means I will be buying it anyway, because I love Alice. If I am really sincerely angry about something, I will not express that in capslock. Capslock is for exaggerating and playing things up. It's not one of the outfits I did like, but I can live with it. I suspect they will fix the hair to be more flipped out and quietly change the picture on the site. It's a cute doll as it is, but it's frustrating, in a not-that-it-really-matters way, to see them get the Galadriel so right and then mess up something as key as the hair--a major Alice feature--on this one and give it one of the less-interesting outfits. People asked me to report my initial gut reaction when I saw it. So I did. But it's okay.)

A quick rundown:

Twilight: Oh God, the new Bella likeness is... no. (I will totally buy the outfit if someone sells it separately.) We're holding steady with the Edward likeness, although the gaze is SUPER INTENSE. Nice suit, though.

Lord of the Rings: Besides the Galadriel, there's a Legolas, but no pictures yet. I still crave the Arwen, even though the dress isn't entirely movie-accurate, because it is pretty.

Firefly: You can see the Inara, but it is sold out. I think they said they'd be doing a different one later.

Prince of Persia: As previously revealed. I would totally go for the Tamina if it was the full princess/priestess outfit with all the veils.

Jonah Hex: Really? Really?

omg my moneys

I think its the blush on the Galadriel that really makes her look like the original. It highlights her cheekbones perfectly.

I have to admit to not being an Alice-expert, but I thought the doll was pretty. Not the most similar to the actress, but pretty! I defer to your superior knowledge, however.

The outfits are gorgeous. I have bought Tonner items from a site that will split up the doll and outfit and sell them separately. I might have to do that in this case, because the doll would bug me.

I've never really been tempted to buy a doll before, even the lovely Old Hollywood dolls that Tonner started doing (they have awesome costumes), but that Galadriel is the most beautiful doll I have ever seen. It's amazing. I'm very tempted.

Alice looks silly, though. It doesn't look anything like her actress.

Wow, you're right! And considering how bad Barbie Edward looks, that's saying something.

How can Mattel get Alice's hair right, but Tonner can't? HOW?

Yeah. They also go through really quiet changes from the prototype to the final product; I keep Watch That Page on dolls I'm interested in, so I've seen them very quietly change the pictures out. The difference between the first Edward and the one they eventually sold was drastic.

I don't know. But there's still hope for the production version, she said brightly.

Tell me if I'm wrong here but I think the Alice Cullen doll looks more like actress Lana Parilla than it does Ashley Greene. Seriously. Slap a 70s dress (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1112512256/tt0928173) on her and she'd be perfect as Trina Decker from Swingtown.

Didn't she say she had too many doubles running around? I can't imagine how hard it would be to NOT include that doll, though.

Off topic, I just looked at the Edward. Oh... Every. single. thing about that doll is hilarious.

"She reminds me of the Chicago dolls from years ago!"

i think that is the point....she reminds you of CHICAGO not TWILIGHT

also alice's hair is way more "flippy" thank this girls boring bob. also alice is perky and peppy and the clothes from new moon on her were drab and schoolmarm-ish

Wow, okay. This comment comes off as really hostile to me, although I don't know if you meant it that way. "You're clearly all about the gothic and fantasy duds if you're Cleolinda" has a really insulting, dismissive tone regarding my tastes, IMO. Again, maybe you didn't mean it that way, which is why I'm telling you how it actually made me feel.

I love a lot of Alice's outfits, particularly from the first movie.

I did not particularly like the outfit they have chosen for this doll. (It doesn't have her trademark ribbon choker either, which I really loved.) I didn't like the loose grey blouse with the red leather gloves at the end of New Moon; I did really like the blue and white layered outfit she's wearing at school in the beginning. I really wanted one of the outfits with more layers--gloves, a scarf, a sweater. And her hair is always flipped out; the hair on this doll doesn't look right at all, and that's one of the trademark Alice features.

You may notice, however, that I said "Maybe I can mess her hair up," which implies that I will, in fact, be buying it anyway, because I do love Alice, and it's very possible the doll looks better in person, or that they'll fix the hair. They have often changed the Twilight dolls from prototype to final product.

Unfortunately, Bella's outfit might not fit your Bella because they put her on a different body with smaller boobs.

Why can't we have nice things Alices?

Holy crap.

...

Why do you keep reading my comments as hostile? I've been really enjoying your Tumblr, and nice fantasy, gothic, steampunk stuff is what I keep seeing in there. And... I... want opinions because I like learning about what other people think. And I enjoy your opinions and your voice so much that I come to your LJ to comment, even though I have trouble writing what I think.

I though I was being polite. You're killing me here.

AARRGH. I'M ACTUALLY CRYING. AT LEAST I'M NOT DOING IT IN PUBLIC THIS TIME, BUT I THOUGHT I'D STOPPED THAT. ARRRRRGHHG.

I KNOW! I am SO SAD. I will try it. DAMMIT, why did they have to change the Bella so drastically halfway through the product line.

I want the Arwen soooo bad. The real problem I'm seeing people have with the doll is that the sleeves are completely different (which bothers me not at all). Are they different in person?

Nah, I couldn't. I love Toy Biz Galadriel too much. I'll just have to keep the Tonner LOTRs off-story for myself.

Is it just me, or does this (http://www.tonnerdoll.com/2010TonnerSite/2010Images/SummerBlockbuster/NewMoon/bblood2.jpg) look much more like Liv Tyler than Kristen Stewart?

I think I want that Galadriel. She's so pretty. And that dress. OMG that dress.

I'm sorry. I went back and read what you said again. I think "haters gonna hate" set me off for some reason, and I saw everything after it through that lens, and missed "which are pretty," and I apologize for that, that wasn't fair. The comments were coming off to me as "This doll is perfectly fine and you are wrong for not liking her," and I couldn't understand why it was so necessary to come back and go on about it in a second comment, and talk about me in the third person like I'm not even here.

I'm sorry I keep reading your comments wrong. I'll just--try to assume the best from now on, since I keep attributing the wrong tone or intentions to your comment, and that's my fault.

Yes. Not thinking the doll is a particularly successful likeness of a distinctive character makes one a hater. Yes. I see it now.

Yeah, there was a huge difference between David Boreanazward and Final Product Edward.
