What I Found In My Backyard Last Night: A Twitter Reenactment

@cleolinda: What are you barking at, Scout? What are you standing up to reach? Hey wait is that a snake in the tree I mean it's kind of limp maybe dead

@cleolinda: dead snake still not good that's a really low branch are we sure it's dead where is the rest of it beady black eyes OMFG POSSUM

@cleolinda: OMG OMG GIANT POSSUM BIGGER THAN MY CAT EYE CONTACT HAS BEEN MADE WITH GIANT GIANT POSSUM OMFG

@cleolinda: NO SCOUT WE'RE GOING INSIDE NOW POSSUM IS NOT TASTY omfg possum may be rare jumping possum RUN SCOUT RUN

@cleolinda: I looked up and that possum's face was 12 inches from my face, by the way, and it was just as Not Happy to see me.

@cleolinda: Scout is very proud of himself and wants to know why he can't have it, since he treed it fair and square. Because it will EAT YOU, Scout.

@bigmcc: @cleolinda No lie, possums are mean and fight dirty. They don't lose fights with household pets. Nuh-uh.

@cleolinda: @bigmcc IT WAS BIGGER THAN MY CAT (AND LET ME TELL YOU MY CAT IS PRETTY FAT)

So my sister comes downstairs this morning with giddy mischief in her eyes. "You remember that Sips 'n' Strokes thing I went to?"

"Yeah...?" (You pay to drink wine and paint stuff. She brought back a pretty nice abstract of a tree last time.)

"I am so going to--this is awesome. This is SO AWESOME. You are gonna LOVE IT--"

"Ohhhhh no."

"OH YES. IT IS AWESOME."

"Ohhhhh no. I feel where you're going with this."

"YEAH YOU DO."

"It's--it's a theme, isn't it?"

"YEAH IT IS."

"Ohhhhh no."

"I'm gonna to go to this and I'm going to the Starry Night one!"

"Wait... so is this a real art painting then? Because that's not hilarious. Not in the way I was thinking."

"Let me put it this way... it is something that someone actually painted at some time."

"OHHHHHHHH NO."

"OH YES."

"WHY IS IT THAT I ALREADY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THIS IS GOING TO BE ABOUT."

"BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME."

Stretch this out for another five minutes while she wrestles with the SNS website on her phone to show me what it is--but finally: "No--wait, wait! You gotta see it! You gotta see it! OKAY HERE IT IS THEY'RE GONNA TEACH US TO PAINT THIS AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA."

(May I direct you to the painting for October 18th. It is exactly what I was expecting--the theme, at least, having judged by the gleam of evil in my sister's eye--and yet so much worse.)

(Let it be noted here that my sister's involvement in the Twilight fandom is that she is an old-school Cedric Diggory fan, has seen the movie and wants to see the next one, but has not read the books and is great to play Horrify the Twilight Noob with. In fact, I explained imprinting to her this morning, shortly after this incident, which was excellent sport. So she is not a True Believer. Judging by this conversation, I suspect she is an outright lolfan.)

"THAT'S NOT EVEN REAL! THAT'S A FAN MANIP POSTER FROM MONTHS AGO!"

"What? No, for real? And they're charging $50 to teach you to paint it, too."

"They took David Boreanaz from Angel and stuck his head on! IT'S NOT EVEN--FIFTY DOLLARS? YOU ARE SO NOT GOING TO THAT."

"YEAH I AM! It'll be AWESOME. TICKETS FOR FOUR!"

"Well, I hope you have three friends who AREN'T ME, then."

(She does, and begins texting one of them to this effect. They all want to go.)

(Suddenly, a hideous idea enters my brain.)

"Look, I will sell my blood plasma to pay you NOT to bring that thing home and give it to me."

"I was totally going to. I mean it."

"I WILL PAY YOU NOT TO DO THAT."

"IT'LL BE AWESOME."

"NO IT WON'T."

"Then I'll put it right over there on the mantel."

"YOU'RE GONNA PUT FAN ART OF FAN ART ON THE MANTEL."

"It'll be worth every penny."

*sob*

Maybe you can feed the fan art of fan art to the possum?

Well, Angel fans recognized the pose, apparently. It's back from February or March, back before there WAS any filming in Italy to have made fan art of. Which I'm sure people will. But back then, there was no way to manip a poster without using someone else's body, I guess.

Fan art of fan art??? The mind...it...boggles.

Your poor, deluded, non-Twilighter sister...do they have intervention programs for the "Sips'n'Strokes" victims?

And I agree: the painting...it would be great for the Eye o'Possum!

Possums freak me out. I grew up in the country and would see them outside at night from time to time, and I always thought they were spooky.

I want to see a picture of your sister's painting on the mantel after she brings it home.

I so envy your sister going to that - it sounds awesome. But I was confused when I first went to the website. I didn't notice that it started on September, and was wondering why you reacted so strongly to the Sept. 18th image - are you an Auburn fan or something? It all makes much more sense once you read the rest of the story and then find out that you need to advance a month.

From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Actually, the family is very anti-Auburn, pro-Alabama. But yeah--she left the link for me on the October page; I didn't realize it wasn't a static link.

True story - I petted a wild possum once. We had an indoor/outdoor cat, so there was a food bowl both inside and outside. One night, I went out the back door to get something I had left in my Moms car. I stepped outside and saw a furry figure huddled over the food dish. I absentmindedly bent down and stroked it a little, then moved on to the car and got my stuff. When I was headed back in, I bent down to pet it again, to see if my cat wanted to come in for the night. It looked up at me and I could see from the light from inside the kitchen that it was OMFG!POSSUM! I jumped inside the door and the possum was just like "...sup?" and kept on eating kibble.

Back when I was living in this 2nd floor apartment in IL, we had the porch (with trash can) right outside our bedroom window. It was a nice spring evening, and we had the window open.

Two in the morning and we hear this skritch skritch skritch sound. Reasonably sure it's not Freddy Krueger, I ask Karl to check it out, and then we hear this BANG! CLATTER! RUCKUS! and we're like oh shit don't be a burglar. So we go out to the door with our swords (what? we don't have/like guns) and we aim the flashlight out there

AND THERE IS A RACCOON THE SIZE OF A GODDAMN GERMAN SHEPHERD ON TOP OF THE GARBAGE CAN

AND IT IS HISSING AT US

OH MY GOD THE TEETH

And it wouldn't go away, either. Bear in mind, we had the lid on the garbage can out there. There wasn't garbage pokin' out or anything. It popped it open like it was raccoon tupperware or whatever.

At that point, we just let it have the fucking garbage. I'm fairly sure it could have eaten the house.

Raccoons are freaking smart. We had to have raccoon proof trashcans growing up because they'd do that fairly frequently.

LOL, I love your sister. I would totally go to that for the lulz. Although going to any twilight event is a little terrifying to me as I'm never sure how many twihards will be there, and how scary it will be.

I normally see possums that are probably about to die as they wander around blindly in the daylight. I would freak out if I were ever so close to a live one. Raccoons scare me too.
