Ran a low fever today, because apparently we are still on this. I'm spinning my wheels on New Moon between cough syrup-induced comas and not getting anything done. Outstanding. And tomorrow being Happy Eating Day, I doubt I'll get much else done then, either. God, I want my life back.

Hm. Well, I think what we need is some cute. If you are in the Homewood/Birmingham (AL) area, there is a three-month-old puppy at our vet's who is in need of a home. They have dubbed him "Snoopy," but obviously he could be renamed:

Also, here is Sam home fresh from his bath this morning:

Now to decide if I want to pass out again or not.

Just focus on getting better. As someone who works with children and is going to be on the brink of death from every festering child virus known to man for the next year or so (no really, I like kids...) I can say with confidence that if you don't let yourself fully recover from this, it'll hang onto you like an *insert witty simile here*. So take lots of Zinc and let yourself coma it up for a while. It'll be worth it in the end.

Also, semi-related, I always find that watching Twilight when ill is a good way to pass time. The inane hilarity of it all is soothing to my feverish brain.

Happy thoughts! Get better <3

Aw man. I'm sorry to hear that. That sounds like what happens to me most every year, when I get this awful cold that knocks me out cold for a week. :( Hope you get better soon and that it doesn't ruin Happy Eating Day tomorrow.

Snoopy is so cute! NC is too far away to adopt him...

Lol, Sam's expression is hilarious. It looks like his hair would be a menace around the house. We have a golden retriever and I don't even know how she can constantly lose so much hair and not be bald...

If it wasn't for the facts that I live in Michigan and that one of my housemates got a cat a few months ago, I would adopt Snoopy. I hope someone gets him soon.

I particularly liked this comment:

If I see another article like this I am going to vomit. It’s as bad as the “video games teach kids to be violent” argument. First of all, last time I checked vampires were NOT REAL, the Twilight books are FICTION, and it’s all for ENTERTAINMENT VALUE. If your daughter thinks that any of this is something that should be reflected in real life, THEN YOU ARE NOT DOING YOUR JOB AS A PARENT. It’s a fantasy story, and young girls are enamored with the characters. It’s no different than girls going crazy over boy bands, and then you see the band members out partying. It doesn’t mean kids can’t like the music, but they need to be taught by their PARENTS how to make good decisions. If you’re a good parent, then you don’t need to worry about your kids learning the ways of the world from a fictional vampire movie!

I think in the same way we got many reasons for people to love this books, there must be a lot of reasons for people to hate them so much and consider it a threat to the women. I wonder if some of this haters that are not just reacting to a simple dilemma: If girls/women/wives loves this series so much...What I teached them about love and relationships as a parent/authority figure/lover/boyfriend/spouse?
This women had been around for long enough before the books where published and had been exposed to their parents/older siblings/teachers... relationships and "supposedly" are choosing the total opposite, then something most had gone wrong or maybe they are also afraid that their own relationships are not as healthy/or as successful as they though and this is showing it and of course they don't like it.

Excellent point. I believe that Twilight did not cause a problem so much as it is evidence of a long standing one and possibly (but no more than many other things) perpetuates it.

We tell our girls that this is who they are in a lot of ways. We try to teach them self-respect while undermining them with comments like "Boys only want one thing from you." (Really Dad? Thanks for reaffirming that if I didn't screw my male friends in high school they'd stop being my friends. Not like I had brains and personality or anything...)

I have serious issues with Bella as a role model but really, not every character needs to be a role model. I don't want my son to be Captain Jack Sparrow either.

I dunno. Maybe I'd be more upset if my 11 year old who wanted to read Twilight was a girl. I like to think even so I'd be able to manage frank talks about what a tit Bella is in New Moon and the difference between fantasy and reality. ("...and a boy who breaks in to watch you sleep is NOT romantic, hon. He's creepy and in need of psychiatric care."

I don't think that the girls say they want to be Bella they are implying to emulate her, more like they say I want to marry a Jonas Brother means they are going to plot a way to actually meet them, or any of the other silly things we say when we are that age and end up becoming just nice memories of simpler/naives times.

Excellent point. I believe that Twilight did not cause a problem so much as it is evidence of a long standing one and possibly (but no more than many other things) perpetuates it.

I think we payed a lot of attention to having the "sex talk" but not enough attention to the "love talk". Maybe this is what the books legacy would be. Talking to our girls and boys about what love is or not...

I dunno. Maybe I'd be more upset if my 11 year old who wanted to read Twilight was a girl. Heh I always think that this point is way to exaggerated, by worriers. I really doubt any American girl wants actually to have a boy break in on midnight during their sleep...Unless they are inviting him and sleep is not exactly what she plans to do;). Maybe that is another of the worries of the parents thinking that in the same way that Bella got away with having Edward on her room every night while their parents are sleeping they might try to do that too and well end up pregnant.

No to mention that I also doubt any boy that is crazy enough to try and do that. Police arrest, accidental shooting, family not accepting and restriction orders would scare even the more cuckoo of them.

spoofs!

its quite hilarious!

Also, if the desk is solid and heavy (which it sounds like it is), would it not be possible to get a carpenter to remove the divider and place a support beam in the back of the work area, out of the way? It would probably cost less than buy a new desk.
Just a thought, good luck with everything!

Aw that is one cute puppy :) I hope he finds a good home.

Actually on the subject of adopting pooches there's something I've been wondering that I think maybe you could shed some light on. My family adopted a dog recently through a rescue program where dogs from the South are brought up North to find homes. The woman who was handling the adoption told us that it's pretty common down South for people to get puppies and then just get rid of them after a few months when they're tired of them or they've outgrown that cute puppy stage, which is why they always have so many dogs in need of a home down there. I was totally surprised to hear this and was wondering if there's any truth to it. And sorry, I'm sort of basing you knowing anything about this on your being a dog owner from Alabama but I just can't imagine something like that being a common trend and am really curious about it. Is this true at all?

Also Happy Thanksgiving!
