More brilliant sunshine today; feeling good, except weirdly queasy, not sure why. Fortunately, I have an eight-pack (they make them in eights now?) of Coke in little bottles, so that should help.

Got a good bit done yesterday--outlined that new story idea I had in mind, and a possible book series arc for it. (This is how these things work with me--I suddenly come up with an idea, go to town with it, and then set it aside for later, occasionally picking it back up now and then. That's life on the Story Farm.) I'm going to have to do a good bit of anecdotal research into the paranormal (yay! reading books!), but I can't really tell you what or that'd give away the story.

Think I'm getting very close with the Harry Potter e-book thing--we're mostly down to the most tedious aspects: proofreading, checking links, filling in last-minute holes, and syncing up footnote cross-referencing. (That is to say, if I say "See note #89," note #89 better actually be the one I'm talking about. You have a new thought and add a new footnote, and you've fucked up every single instance of "See note ##" for the whole document. So I'm also going through and making it less specific if I can--"See the note about blah blah blah on the blibbity blee scene"--if I think you can find it without a number.) It's still a significant amount of work, but each round of revision is shorter and more technical. You can see the end coming.

(And then once we're done, it'll be time to start the vampire set! OH GOD.)

Also: It looks like I'm scheduled to do another episode of Made of Fail, huzzah!

Also-also: What the hell, y'all. What the hell. As Unlucky Bear put it, the werewolf fanservice poster looks like a boy band called All Fur One, and I don't even KNOW what's going on in the main one. I didn't even notice The Demon Jasper up top at first. BAD PHOTOSHOP. BAD. NO BISCUIT.

Yeah, def. bad photoshopping.

the fact that the werewolves have uniformly hairless arms while edward's sporting a full pelt is kind of upsetting to me and i don't really know why.

Well, it's ironic, to say the least. I'm actually completely okay with normal amounts of hair on guys (it's hilarious to me when all the teenage Twihards clutch their pearls every time HAIR IS IN EVIDENCE EW WHAT IS THAT), but a little freaked by totally hairless ones, in that "You were up all night waxing that, weren't you?" way.

it just seems to me that vampires who sparkle would be the more obvious choice for forearm-waxing than werewolves. when they transform, are they half naked?

All Fur One - LOL
It totally looks like a cover for a beefed up boy band.
Edward's hand on Bella's back looks possessive and creepy.
At least Alice looks better in this poster than other NM Promotional pictures.

Wow. Awful Photoshop job is awful. Seriously. Not only is the airbrushing extremely obvious, but the different colored eyes? They could at least try to make it look like the actors are wearing contacts or something.

Fail.

Yeah I totally agree... I'm not freaked by guys having arm hair or anything but it seems oddly incongruous with all of the "smooth, marble-like, glistening" etc descriptions of Edward in the book.

Okay I made up "glistening"... that may be the one adjective SM didn't use.

Cleo, am SO excited about the HP-with-footnotes. I adore footnoted things and it sounds like you are doing Uber Footnotes. The techie proofing sounds deadly, so I hope you can finish up soon and be justly rewarded.

That footnote match-up thing was the most tedious, pain-in-the-ass part of the gigantic law review article I had to write last year. I think it took me longer than the actual writing did. People kept telling me there was a way to make Word do it for me, but I never figured out how.

It's just freaky, really. It's like they want to make some kind of distinction between RPattz, who is probably one of the most skinny, twinky-looking actors in the Twilight franchise (ok, aside from the new vampire kid, and maybe JRath), and the bigger, buffer guys playing the werewolves... like they're deliberately trying to foster this image of him as "100% Real Man™, more manly than all others!" Even Emmett, at the back of the first poster, has smooth-looking arms.

Yeah--a lot of it is me just trying to do extra commentary or point out interesting things rather than High Scholarly Research, which is... actually how I kind of did the others originally, and why I was so incredibly stressed out about it. And then I went, you know what? That's ridiculous. This is not a graduate dissertation. Just use simple, stable, common sites like Wikipedia and IMDB (reason: because I can guarantee the links will still be there a year from now) and have fun with it, because "fun" is the unique "product," as it were, that I can offer. So.

But yeah, there's at least 100+ footnotes on each one. Like, a sample note (which does have links) from POA--the document I have open at the moment--would be,

This line is based off the old Looney Tunes cartoon with Bugs Bunny and the Abominable Snowman (IMDB tells me that you can find it specifically in Daffy Duck’s Quackbusters [1988] ): “Just what I always wanted. My own little bunny rabbit! I will name him George, and I will hug him, and pet him, and squeeze him.” This is itself a reference to Of Mice and Men, with the Abominable Snowman as Lennie, the developmentally disabled farmhand who loves small animals (particularly rabbits) and “soft things,” and “George” referring to his best friend George Milton.

I love Demon Jasper! He's all "This shit is really screwed up, but I'm going with it." Or else he's fresh off the Criminal Minds set and still feeling all psycho. I'm far more concerned about surgically-attached Bella and Edward. I read an article about him leaving nail marks in her back in this pic, and they're not kidding!

Well, the thing is, I'm pretty sure they didn't alter his arms (although his head is pretty pastede on yay). Just from untouched pictures I've seen... yeah. He's surprisingly untwinky offscreen, I'll put it that way.

Wow, they went whole hog with the sleeveless T shirt and cut off jeans thing on the wolves, didn't they? I mean, whoa. They haven't been faithful to Edrward's penchant for beige, but they're following that description to the T, aren't they? Brings me back to the "leader of the pack" reference in your commentary, Cleo. Missing only the motorcycle.

Holy shit, what the hell article was that? God, I thought maybe they just photoshopped that on to be weird.

Well, it's nice to know that he's accentuating the Completely Freaking Creepy side of Edward. I appreciate the--let's call it "honesty"--of that.
