Ah, we finally have an image for the Comic-Con exclusive Tonner Edward, courtesy of the Tonner email newsletter that I subscribe to religiously:

The hair is rather meek, and for a full $129 I wish it had more accessories than "a shirt,"* but it does seem to have the black eyes to indicate "hunger" (~*EXCITING VARIATION!*~), and I have to say? This is the least horrifying/most accurate product image of the character that they've put up yet. I mean, compared to my doll's prototype pictures.

* YOU'RE KILLING ME HERE, PEOPLE. IT'S THE SAME DOLL, EXCEPT THIS TIME IT'S DEPRESSED. IT HAS LESS STUFF THAN THE FIRST ONE; IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A JACKET. YOU CAN'T THROW IN SOME EXTRA CLOTHES? A SPARKLE VENEER? A TINY MOUNTAIN LION? COME ON.

I mention this specifically just to let y'all know not to worry about trying to get one for me (as I'd previously asked--for someone to snag one at the convention, and I would have paid them back). I'd like to get one, but I think I'm going to get my bargain hunter on and go to eBay after the convention. Besides, like I said last time, no one would have any way of knowing who else might or might not have snagged one, and I'd end up with seven Edward v2s WHO HAVE NO ACCESSORIES and no way to pay everyone back.

Also: WHOA BLACK CANARY. They really need to lay off using the Lara Croft body (literally, that is the Lara Croft body sculpt) on every single flippin' DC doll.

Well, I mean, I knew it wouldn't. That's the same description they originally put out, and, I mean... that's what the outfit looks like in the movie. That's why I wanted to see a picture, in case it was just somehow unspeakably awesome in ways I could not foresee. But it pretty much looks exactly like what I thought it would. Except that its hair is extra sad. : (

I have no interest in ever owning a Twilight doll, but I would buy an Edward in a second if it came with a tiny mountain lion. Perhaps with a bit of removable neck...like those Jurassic Park toys from a while ago that had "battle damage"?

And Black Canary. Wow. She's got huge...boots.

A doll-sized mountain lion would be cool -- especially if it had a Pez-style flip-top head to make it easy for sparklepires to tear out its throat. :)

Especially since, in the comics at least, Canary abandoned the strapless bodysuit ages ago and wears a much more senceable (yet still stylishly sexy) high necked and sleeveless version.

Sigh...that get up looks like something she'd wear in the bedroom for playtime with Ollie...

The sight of the actual Black Canary doll has killed my desire to have the Black Canary doll.

Now, see, *this* is the doll all the people who were upset over the Barbie version should be shown to prove that they really had no idea what trashy looked like. Everything laces up? Thigh-high boots? LARA CROFT BOOBS?

That's what's different, the gratuitous comma.

Blonde Guy from Golden Compass came with a big ol' leopard. He's menacing the tactical dollhouse, but the barbies have a couple of rifles and a bazooka trained on him. Great dollie drags from that movie...

Is it sad when your first thought looking at a doll is "Oh those boobs are SO FAKE" before you realize the entire thing is fake? Any more endowed and she'd fall over. At least Barbie has hips to match.

She's the very model of a female action figure. Ugly dollies, I call 'em. Some of them come with an alternate (normal-sized) breastplate for female buyers. My grandniece would ask me, "Do you have another chest for this one, Auntie?" If not, headfirst in the mop bucket.

I saw "Hungry, Edward" and thought Hungry Eyes - which I guess kind of makes sense - and now the song is in my head and as it turns out, the lyrics kinda work too . .

Also, is it me or does Hungry Eyes Edward have unnaturally long legs? He looks a little - out of proportion to me.

Date: 2009-07-10 01:09 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Original Flavor Edward does too. Honestly, I think all the Tonners' legs are a bit too long and/or thin, proportionally. Which is okay on a girl, because we're so used to exaggerated body shapes on female dolls, but on a male doll? Looks kind of strange.

Er. At least they've decided to really go all out with the "insane previously-unattested-Elseworlds" look for the boots this time? I mean, if it's down to "Black Canary from the Elseworlds where she is a pirate who also runs a burlesque show for some reason" or, like the Barbie version did, "Black Canary in those yellow-buckled shitkicker boots that Oracle got her. Except with stiletto heels added! So they're no longer shitkickers. In fact they look kind of pathetic now", well, at least the DC Pirate Stripper AU is interesting.
