I have no idea--my sister just texted my mother with exactly the details I mentioned, no others (well, "I made a girl cry," I forgot that part). I think my mother's told that story before, but I can't remember the reason why the girl pinched her--I seem to recall it being kind of spiteful, however.

I've only gotten pinched by my sister (well--you know sibling fights) and by "well-meaning" people on St. Patrick's Day. This is how I discovered that pinching activates automatic vengeance in my arm. Like, seriously, I clotheslined a pincher one time and didn't even realize I was doing it.

I am the same way, but with poking, not pinching. I will hug you if you open your arms or high-five you or whatever, just make sure I know it's coming. Otherwise, survivalist defense mode kicks in and your shins become the welcome mat for whatever kicks I'm wearing that day.

Ditto on the poking. If someone even looks like they're about to pinch me, I will straight up throw down. The only time I got in real trouble in high school was when a friend tried to poke me in my side, and I punched him in the face.

Wow. I don't care how well you know someone, you don't go for Inappropriate Touching in places like bars, or subways, or city buses where there are genuinely creepy people around. If someone did that, it would serve them right to get their nose broken.

My grandmother used to carry a hatpin for just these situations. She was a tiny woman and apparently had a problem with being grabbed in bars, right up until she started sticking people.

I cannot begin to imagine my reaction if someone were to pinch me. I teach MS, and my MS students do not pinch me. I'm nearly 47, and I cannot remember the last time I was pinched. I just cannot imagine the scenario when and where that could actually take place. I'm not married, so I would imagine that pinching might take place between married couples, but being pinched by someone I do not have an intimate physical relationship with would be beyond strange.
