Remember how tired I was? Yeah, I don't think I slept at all. If I did drop off, I don't remember it. I'm probably going to pass out in three or four hours, but I've got to get through the extended family lunch first. It's small and we're close, though, so it's not a huge ordeal or anything.

So, to repeat the question from Thanksgiving--if you are celebrating holiday(s) today, what foods are you nomming? And if presents were involved, what did you get that you really liked? Or, for that matter, what did you give that you really liked? I'm very pleased with the present I've put together for my cousin, for example (I can't say what yet, because she might actually read this before she gets here). As for me, I got that star locket (in gold tone) and the bracelet that I had really wanted from Sweet Romance. Oh, and Beedle the Bard! It's funny, I wasn't even interested in that until people started talking about it and I realized there was more to it than just a couple of fairy tales. (I mean, if nothing else, there's an epic burn.) So that's probably what I'll be doing today after I emerge from a short coma: reading.

I also got something else, probably my favorite present of all, that we will speak of later. (No, it is not male. Speaking of which--whom?--we haven't seen Purple Arwen since he arrived. No one is terribly surprised.)

Meanwhile, I wish you booze and joy. I just really wish I had some pomegranate juice now.

I didn't get anything I really liked. My parents try, but I'm at the age (23) where they're just kinda lost. I got the new Doctor Who season, but I also bought it for myself and gave it to my mother to wrap and give to me. I got some of that odd Harajuku Lovers perfume, a sweater, socks, and some heart necklace that I really think is cheesy but my parents are very proud of picking out. ::sighs:: They mean well and I love them for it. I got them awesome stuff though. Lots of books, my mother new earrings, my sister makeup...

For Christmas dinner, it's roast beef with mushrooms and mashed potatoes and afterwards plum pudding and chocolate dipped strawberries. Hell yes. I'm honestly just glad I have a day off and a chance to eat a meal at home.

Merry Christmas, [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda, and thanks for all the lulz over the year

The anticipation towards the revelation of Your Favorite Gift is killing me.

Ok, so that's an exaggeration. Maybe more like it's giving me a bit of a twinge. But still, very curious as to what it could be.

My favorite gift was one of the few non-money gifts I got, from my older sister. She got me the 21 Nights (http://www.borders.com/online/store/TitleDetail?sku=1416554440) book about that month of concerts Prince did in London. It's very very pretty to browse, as any good coffee table book should be, and the live CD it comes with is equally awesome. My sister is one of the few people who knows how much I dig Prince (and only occasionally teases me over it), so I'm really pleased.

Oh, wow, that jewelry is really pretty :D Happy holidays.

I got a lot of really cool stuff. The best was a copy of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Game of the Year Edition for my computer - I'm not used to having a laptop with enough space to play a truly epic game like that, and it's great. :D

Also, though it hasn't arrived yet, my brother bought me a Tibetan skull bracelet that is fantastic and actually something I've been wanting to get for quite some time. :3

I got my mum and aunt some CDs (Styx and Kansas) and some books (an Anne Rice and Catch Me If You Can - they like true crime) and I'm beyond happy that they liked them. :D

I got the yearly Borders gift card, and cooking supplies! Now, I like cooking, but my favorite one was the vegetable peeler. I just kinda wish I'd gotten it yesterday when I had to core and peel a dozen apples. Sure, it's for vegetables, but I don't think it's picky enough to turn down fruit.

I also got a "tricks for Adobe CS4" book, which is kinda... um, not so good because I don't have CS4.

My favorite gift so far is a romance novel about a pimp and a dominatrix. :p

Tonight is the 5th night of Hannukah! I'm going to a movie and then out for sushi. Mmmm....crispy tuna roll....

I got a new Blackberry Storm that I'm really enjoying ^_^

This year I tried to give everyone either gifts I bought from local vendors at art shows or from Etsy.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! ^_^

I gave my sister The Graveyard Book and Uglies, in hopes that her devouring of Twilight et al. can be channeled into constructive reading of awesome books. I gave my mom a crapload of new makeup and brushes because she had to toss all her old stuff due to allergic reactions, and THAT was awesome. And my dad got The Fifth Element, his favorite movie EVAR. (Those aren't all the presents I gave but those are the best!) And I got a coat and pyjamas and a bathrobe, all of which I needed, and slippers that need to go back so I can get ones that fit but it's the thought that counts. :D This was a practical Christmas.

We're having HAM. And German potato salad, because Mom hates scalloped potatoes and sister hates mashed and baked potatoes. I don't get them. I suggested latkes, since Mom's Jewish and there's something hilarious to me about latkes with ham.

Merry Christmas! I hope it is happy and bright. <3

well, last night my family had a roast chicken dinner and pecan pie, this morning there were omelets, coffee cakes, and pomegranate spritzers, and tonight there will be roast beef, yorkshire pudding, etc.

my favorite gift, gotta be the macbook, although my mom and i banded together to get my dad an ipod touch, and the childish joy on his face while he played with it was almost better than being able to have my OWN computer. almost.

I am nomming grits and multi-grain toast for my Christmas breakfast. Yum. There's ham and Waldorf salad later.

My favorite gift is the first three seasons of Supernatural on DVD, and I'm now watching the Christmas episodes. (There's ritual sacrifices and drunk Santas involved. I love my show.)

My best gift given, I think, is a parody-biography of Millard Fillmore that I gave to my stepfather. He likes history, he likes to read, and it was a highly recommended book. I think it's a win.

Presents - nothing too special. My sweetie strayed towards the annoyingly practical side, so my big gift was a foodsaver. (We are the kind of couple where that won't get him killed - I like kitchen gadgets - but it's just not exciting, you know?) He liked his big gift tho - an iPod Nano.

Dinner will be lovely, if the fact I got no sleep and then when I was about to get some the dog decided to dance the Can Can on my gut won't make me go postal. I always overdo it for Christmas dinner, and pick a theme. This year's theme is French:

Pickles and Olives
Asparagus Salad with Celery Leaves, Quail Eggs, and Tarragon Vinaigrette
Escargots à la Bourguignonne
Artisan Bread
Sauteed Parsnips and Carrots with Honey and Rosemary
Crusty Potato Cake
Roast Goose with Chestnuts, Prunes and Armagnac
Cranberry Sauce with Port and Dried Figs
Eggnog Crème Brûlée
Pumpkin Pie

If it all turns out, it will be Epic.

Usually we do French-Canadian Christmas on Christmas Eve, which consists of tortiere and opening of one present each. Then on Christmas day we do English-Canadian Christmas, with the opening of the stockings/presents and the turkey dinner. We reversed it this year, though, so we did the stockings/opening yesterday along with the turkey dinner and tonight we're having tortiere.

I got a couple of Nancy Drew computer games (love!), the first two Twilight books (from my brother and sister-in-law to be, the latter of which I have been subjecting my OMGWTF rants of a Twilight nature and who went to see the movie with me). The Twilight package's tag read 'for the lulz'. :-D I also got the Dresden Files comic book, which I was sure no one would be able to find. I got my brother the Aliens Quadrilogy, which I'm quite proud of, since he was talking about how Aliens was his favourite movie and he didn't have it on DVD. So, I had a lovely time and now it's over and that's good too. :-)

Frye Paige Oxfords.

Mmmmmleather.

I will always have a soft spot for those peanut butter cookies with the Hershey's kisses on them. So good, oh lord. As far as gifts I gave, pretty excited to give the boyfriend a nice sweater that he damn well needs and a Chuck Norris DVD to make up for the sweater.

This morning, I had three pieces of Hash Brown and Bacon Caserole, and could not decide if I wanted to die or have one more slice. It was lovely.

I got a great necklace from Urban Outfitters--it has a monocle on it. I was supposed to get Guitar Hero but my brother-in-law got it for the Playstation instead of the Wii, which he realized right when I opened it. My nephews are totally doing that kid thing of fixating on one present. The three year-old got a brand new trike but has not even acknowledged it in the face of the Castle Ball Game (?)

Merry Christmas!

Yay for Beedle the Bard! After seeing it in Barnes and Noble recently I decided I'd be pretty happy to get it for Christmas and then my friend surprised me with it for my birthday. I peeked at the intro this morning since I just finished a book last night and need something new. I can't wait to read the rest later, I heard the commentary from Dumbledore is supposed to be good.

My siblings are pretty tight on money this year so we decided not to exchange gifts but I wanted to do something for them so I baked chocolate chip cookies for my brother and brother-in-law and gluten free sugar cookies with peanut butter chips for my sister who has celiacs and then put them in Christmas themed Chinese take out boxes and added a few candies. Not as great at the presents we usually do but I was pretty pleased with how they turned out :)

Hope you guys have a nice family lunch!

It's my first Christmas without my parents. We just chatted on skype and I had a couple things to open today (Dark Knight and The Guide to the Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged) but I got my other presents two weeks ago when mom was in town on business. Pretty pretty green headphones, and a cooling pad, and makeup, and desperately needed moneys.

I just got dad a book on art from a series he liked and I got mom a decorative santa. I was proud of that one since I got it months ago at a Ren Faire because it looked like something she'd really like.

I'm not a complete sad sack and I'm going over to a friend's later to eat Chinese food (for the irony), watch Wall-E and try not to cry. Right now I am nomming on butterscotch crunchies or haystacks or whatever you call them. It's melted butterscotch and peanut butter mixed with marshmallows and chow mein. SO GOOD.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Breakfast was homemade bread from last night with real butter and farm-made jams, and I'm drinking my ridiculously expensive gourmet coffee from my boss' gifty basket out of a mug from the dollar store.

My fave gift for this year sounds absurd, but it's the ceiling fan from my brother. I bought my first home in September, and really really wanted this so I put it on my list. My mother once again gave me a bunch of random organizational things from QVC. We need to take that station away from her, as it tends to prompt the sorts of gifts that make my friends say "Has you mom ever MET you?"

We are still waiting for my sister to get up, but I am giving everyone prints of some of the best pictures I took over the year.

We are Scandinavian-Minnesotan, so Christmas dinner is Swedish meatballs, potatoes and beans, with silte (a Swedish headcheese) and gjetost (BEST CHEESE EVER) and lefse.

Hmm... Best gift? I would like to say, first, that I am a huge Doctor Who dork. Apparently bigger than I thought. My parents got me a TARDIS coin bank, and when you open it, it has sound bytes from the show, and when you close it, the light on top lights up and it has the dematerialization sound.

My favorite gift that I gave as a 12" Martha (companion, series three) action figure for a friend who loves Martha. I also got her a 5 1/2" bad guy action figure for Giantess Martha to kick around. I hope she likes it as much as I did.

I am having a Spanish Christmas dinner! Because I was in Spain last year.

So: judias rojas, cordero y acelgas. That is, red beans (...which I think are kidney beans?) cooked with salt pork, chorizo (Spanish chorizo) and some onions and garlic, lamb and Swiss chard. I probably can't convince the family to eat chard the Spanish way, which is to cut off the leafy part and bread and fry the stalks, but I suppose it's worth a try...

Then there's some tasty cheese, some more chorizo, pimientos al piquillo and white asparagus for before, and I think someone's bringing dessert. I, for one, am deeply excited!

So far, my favorite present is the bag of "Absolutely Divine Intense Dark Chocolate Squares: 70% Cacao" that I got for Christmas this morning. My hanukah gifts so far were kind of boring: a new shaver (which does work very well, so thumbs up there), socks, some new gloves that don't fit well. I have been promised a new laptop case, since mine's wearing out, so that's my big present.
