Wow, y'all. I need an internet brain vacation. The problem is, I don't have time for one--I have GOT to finish these annotations; it's just not even funny anymore, how long it's taking me. (Also, my grandmother's icemaker broke, and when she opened the freezer door, water poured out and ruined her old kitchen floor and now the tiles are twisting and buckling and she's going to trip over them and fall down again so we have to get it replaced ASAP and seriously, is there anything else, anything else, that the universe can think of throwing at us? Don't answer that.)

That said, I do feel fairly accomplished--even a little energized, except for this headache--that I actually caught up with the show and turned out three recaps in three days, good God. I wasn't even actually sure I could do it, but I thought, well, won't know if I don't try. The problem is, I've been under a lot of stress lately, and I've found myself getting really tense and cranky over the last three or four days. I was even going downstairs and my mother just happened to be there at the foot unexpectedly and I jumped about three feet. And then Shelby let out one of her piercing sonic barks and I jumped again, and my mother was like, "Well, you're on edge today." But I need the internet to fact-check my footnotes, and even if I did try to cut back on intarwebs interaction, I hate that feeling of missing out on things and falling behind on the news. So... I don't know. I'm just saying, I'll try to hold it together if y'all will forgive me for any crankiness.

Well, here's something to make us all feel better: Upside Down Dogs. I so need to get Shelby on this, she is a champion upside-down sleeper.

OH AND ALSO Sister Girl came over and spent three hours showing me old boy band videos on YouTube (I spent my entire childhood and adolescence completely immune to the charms of boy bands, which made me the weirdest girl in fifth grade), and we decided that this is THE GREATEST BOY BAND VIDEO EVER (That Did Not Involve Monsters):

On a somewhat related note, on Saturday my roommate and several others decided that Marky Mark's Good Vibrations needs to overtake RickRolling.

Me too! I was 11 during the whole Backstreet Boys/N'SYNC thing and could not stand either of them. Of course I now love both of them for the camp factor. I got to see Backstreet Boys in concert this summer and it was honestly one of the campiest, best concerts I have been to in my life. (I was also terrified I was going to witness the tragic death of Nick Carter, who had to have been on something from the way he was jumping around.)

I can totally relate on the immunity to the charms of all boy bands. Yeah, I too was definitely the odd girl out in 5th grade! When I was 9 it was NKOTB, or you were nothing! LOL. I usually just looked up and went back to my parents' Beatles cassettes.

Also, LOL upside-down dogs! XD

Oh Step by Step! I only vaguely remember the video since, like you, I was not on the boy-band wagon at that time in my life..HOWEVER I recently saw the New Old Kids on the Block preform that song on some daytime talk show as part of their "reunion" tour. They did all the dancing and then during the count down they held the mics out to the audience to have them shout the lyrics back to them, BUT NO ONE REMEMBERED THE WORDS...It was both the saddest and most beautiful thing I have ever seen...

I was in jr. high when New Kids was big and I didn't like them at all. I had tons of friends that did though so I had to hear about them on a regular basis. The running man dance they were doing was making me laugh though. I remember doing that shit. Also I think I blocked out how fugly Danny was.

I was like... 13 or so when they were big. And I was obsessed. And I don't care what y'all think - Donnie is still hot!

Oh lord... I LOVE Upside Down Dogs. It's charming and odd at the same time, and a little hard to explain to people why you're dying of laughter at a dog lying on its back.

I know a website that always cheers me up - Cake Wrecks (http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/).

There's something about the failure of others, mixed with a sizeable amount of other people's cake-related misfortunes and a hearty chunk of snark that always gets me, right... *sniff*... here. *points to heart, tears up*

I barely made the NKOTB phase (I was 5), but my 13-year-old sister dug 'em hardcore. And I gotta say, I kind of loathed BSB/Nsync, but Everybody (Backstreet's Back) was just about one of the best videos ever. Because I was kind of a mini-goth at that time... Hanson was "my band," though, in 7th grade, which made me soooo uncool, because they were "so last year"... Yeeeeah.

Seriously, what you need ain't an Internet break, but a break from misfortune. And, yes, three recaps in a weekend is quite an accomplishments, expecially given their lenght and stark wittyness. I mean, it wasn't a bunch of comments thrown here and there, so kudos to you, they're much appreciated.

All jokes aside, you should do as you wish and as you feel it's better for you, but know that there's some of us who don't mind the crankiness and very much appreciate your accomplishments. :)

Man, there is nothing about the New Kids, then and now, that does not send me into peals of delighted laughter. About ten years ago my parents were moving, and I got a package from my mother. Inside was a black baseball cap covered with bright yellow and pink neon "NKOTB" logos. All her note said was, "I couldn't bring myself to throw it out." I couldn't either.

Then, when they performed on the Today Show earlier this year, I saw a woman in the crowd wearing the same hat, and I sort of wondered if there wasn't some sort of NKOTB mind-control thing going on.

Somehow, I had never actually seen this video even though I kind of knew the song, and when we were watching it this afternoon I nearly DIED. Maybe it's because I'm seeing it for the first time as an adult, but holy shit, the dance moves and the elbows and the pointing and the overalls and the spinning and THE KEN DOLL HAIR. Oh my God, if I had really seen and appreciated this at the age of eleven, it would have changed my life.

I too was above the influence of boy bands in my youth... however I now find myself drawn to british boy bands (McFly and Busted to be exact) Their songs are both catchy and witty... unlike NSync and Backstreet Boys... Which I was subjected to due to my sister's NSync scrapbook (Insert Edward Comment Here) and insanely weird boy band fan fiction...

Oh lord it hurts to think about the fan fiction!

I was a weirdo in junior high because I wasn't on the whole NKOTB, Debbie Gibson, Tiffany bandwagon...at least publically. I loved when my cousins "forced" me to listen to their tapes. For some reason I was mortified that my mom would find out I liked *gasp* boys! (I'm a het girl, btw.) My mom must have totally known because we watched an NKOTB concert on the Disney channel one afternoon and we were all "I don't care if you don't care" "you change the channel, I'm not changing it."

I carried a torch for baby Joey. He still is a cutie, but their music and videos did not age well. At. All.

ETA: re: NKOTB: OMG BAD 80S FASHIONS, I LOVE THEM SO. Also, omg, what's up with the beginning and the Irish-inspired dancing? That video is crack!

re: BSB: I wish I would have seen that video sooner. I might have gotten onto the bandwagon back in the day. Whoever's dancing around as Jekyll/Hyde (the one in the glasses?) is ridiculously hot in monster gear....

OK, so I had a crush on Donnie of NKOTB, which is insane, clearly. He was like what, 40 back then? And I was 13, so... yeah, gross. And I second the comment above about Danny being fugly. Can't remember any of my little school friends liking him back in the day, although Joe was a big fan favorite.
And now I am 30 and read Twilight and squee with fan-girly glee over sparkly vampires. So not much has changed, sadly.
As much as I've come to heart your TB recaps, Cleo, we need you sane for the rest of the season, so get your rest! I can't wait to read your reaction about Sam/Werecollie's true nature. Oh, and every time you write the word "fursplode," an angel gets its wings. That word is made of some serious win.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I was like 16 or 18 when NKOTB came out, and lo, I did scorn them mightily, from head to foot, with the New Wave scorn that only comes from being a die-hard Duran Duran fan.

And then, many years later, while watching Band of Brothers and to Boomtoom, when I was 35 or something, I was horrified to realize that "Holy crap, Donnie Wahlberg is HOT, NO WHAT AM I SAYING!?"

I've never quite gotten over the trauma.
