Today's Journal Birthmonth Flashback: Let's be lazy and link to The Happening in Fifteen Minutes from earlier this summer, since it's out on DVD today. I highly recommend that you at least Netflix it or something, if only to shock and amaze yourself with the number of things I did not, in fact, make up. (Extramarital dessert... the mood ring... "cheese and crackers"... the trees rustling on the phone... Hot Dog Time...)

I've already seen pictures of Mia Wasikowska as Alice. I'm so looking forward to it. While I'm not surprised that Helena Bonhama Carter is going to be in it (she's in every Tim Burton movie isn't she?), I'm a bit surprised at Ann Hathaway being cast.

I take it back she'll be brill as the White Queen.

I can't tell you how happy I am that the last word in that title is "skills."

I hate headlines like that "Power Rangers actor kills someone"

I've never watched the show but it's this guy's only IMDB credit. At best he's a one shot 'guest star'. NOT a Power Rangers actor!

Tim Burton's really good at putting whoever he's fucking at the moment in his movies. That's one of the reasons why Planet of the Apes was so awkward and terrible - he was transitioning from one to the other.

Honestly, I can't stand HBC. And I haven't enjoyed a Tim Burton movie since Sleepy Hollow.

I had this feeling of childlike amazement when I saw The Happening, because I truly thought all the stuff I'd read about it HAD to be an exaggeration. WHY YOU EYEIN' MAH LEMON DRANK.

Did you see that skit on last Saturday's SNL, Mark Wahlberg Talks To Animals? It was hilarious, not least because it reminded me of that scene in the movie when he talked to a plant that turned out to be fake. But also because it was so random, and a dead-on impression.

She was lovely in Charlies and the Chocolate Factory. But I've had a crush on her since Howard's End, so I'm a bit bias.

He's been seeing her for a while, hasn't he? And does that mean he's fucking Johnny Depp?

My theatre has been doing that opera thing for almost a year... I think we have Salome playing live from the Met next week, actually. All the (lovely old) people who go to see them say it's better than actually being there- cheaper, they do behind the scenes stuff, they zoom in on the singers, etc.

Okay, first headline is a little bit misleading, since imdb tells me the guy did ONE EPISODE. imdb has been wrong before, and it doesn't change the "oh jesus god that is awful" factor, but I grew up watching MMPR and I am TRUMATIZED ENOUGH by Trini's death-by-no-seatbelt. If Billy killed some people and got the chair, I don't know how I'd cope. D:

I'm totally going to the movie theater opera things this year. Particularly Doctor Atomic. Tickets are like $20 though, which is lame.
