One thing you must know about me is that I have a thing for dolls. Not baby dolls. I mean, I used to. When I was six. Now it's all about the dolls in the pretty clothes. Maybe this is because I also have a thing for looking at costumes. Not wearing them, or making them. Just... looking at them. So naturally I have the Toy Biz Galadriel, Eowyn, and Arwen dolls (well, just the lavender-dress Arwen, not the white dress--I'm still trying to get hold of that for less than $50, because that's just insane). Another thing you must know about me is that I inherited an extreme thrifty streak from my late grandfather. Thus, I'm all over these dolls because they're only about $19. Or they would have been, if people hadn't gone and BOUGHT THEM ALL and PUT THEM ON EBAY for TWICE AS MUCH. Ahem.

Unfortunately, my thrifty streak is only semi-functional, because if I were really thrifty, I wouldn't be buying myself this shit at all. But you see why it would be a problem, if I got an email from NewLineShop.com saying that they're having a half-off sale on some of their leftover crap, and some of that leftover crap involved dolls. Which I did. And they are. And it does.

Must. not. buy Aragorn doll. for other dolls. to fight over. Particularly since Aragorn dolls are usually hideous.

(Oh, for God's sake, Arwen, stop pining.)

(Eowyn doll: "Can I have his sword?")

(You know, it's really one of the least bad-looking Aragorn dolls I've se--MUST NOT BUY!)

I have to stay strong, y'all. I already want to buy the next Lemony Snicket book coming out in a couple of weeks, and I want a new pair of headphones because the ones I'm wearing right now are like six years old and really tatty, and if I get into the habit of spending spending spending, I'll be down to my last $50 again in no time. Also, I want a TiVo and an iPod and a pony. Damn you, luxury goods and services! DAMN YOU TO HELL!

It is nice, though, to have enough money to pay for actual incidental expenses, which is what I've really set the money aside for. Like website hosting fees--very small expenses that will make only mild dents in my new savings. Actually, my LiveJournal account just came up for renewal yesterday, which is fine, except that it should have come up in July. I finally figured out that someone must have bought me a gift subscription, but I don't even know who to thank!

Meanwhile, on The Amazing Race last night... the Zorbs were freakin' awesome. Brandon is still adorable (see "Photo Album" on the previous link), and has sucked my sister into watching the show. Also, I am extremely looking forward to EXTREME!Colin's sobby meltdown next week ("Oh my God... I hate you!"), although some FT posters pointed out he might be talking to something rather than someone.

(Am I the only person who was half-expecting the show to capitalize on the NZ-LOTR connection? "It's my Roadblock, Sam! A task that only one person may perform!" [Of course I was--I've got LOTR dolls on the brain.] )

So. The book. You know, that thing I'm supposed to be writing. Arrrrgh. Working on Harry Potter right now, of course, what with the converting Sister Girl and all. Unfortunately, I have a close-reading Milton paper due next week and a midterm the day before the book manuscript is due. Fnarrr. Have cleaned half a gig of MP3s off my computer (sob!) so as to be able to use the damn thing for the week and a half it will take for the new one to arrive--wish me luck.

No matter what I do with myself, no matter how much I tell myself that I can't buy it, Harry Potter merchandise keeps arriving in brown boxes on my doorstep.

Flipping eBay...

Ditto, my friend, ditto

Ebay is too addicting, and once you have paypal, it's WAY too easy.

I had to have the Harry Potter PoA Italian Charm, I HAD to....really. And the posters. And silly postcard pictures. And, well, you know...

Ah, my parents told me that they saw the zorbing. I went Zorbing when I got to NZ. If you ever do it, I don't actually recommend the wet zorbing, which everyone seems to favor, because it just feels like going down a water slide. Fun, but if I'm in a giant inflatable ball, I want to go round and round.

Garrrh! I missed The Amazing Race last night because I had a volleyball game (intramurals just started). For some reason my dad decided to leave us VCR-less, and *poof* all my friends are VCR-less, too. I reaaaaally wanted to see the Zorbs. And see the Twinkies get Philiminated. Was it as wonderful as I have been imagining it was?

Had I been faced with the Zorb roadblock, I totally would have been all "Don't go where I can't follow!" upon having to say goodbye to my partner in preparation for going down that hill. Because I am a massive dork.

According to the folks over at TORN, that was filmed where the Shire used to be. They've gone to some great places on this season of TAR, but being there would have really rocked my world.

My aunt collects dolls as well. She has a 3 bedroom house. One bedroom for her, one for guests, and one for dolls. And there isn't enough room in the doll room for all of her dolls. It's kind of scary.

I swear, The Amazing Race deliberately panders to my basest emotions. It knows what buttons to press to make me twitch with excitement. It knows to show whatsername's sledge come up empty from underneath the waterfall and wait those precious seconds, making me wonder if, finally, they suffered a casualty. It knows that putting the "Dating Models" in the mud flat is high comedy. It knows that editing the film to show whatsisname "pray to the Lord for guidance" and then seconds later find the clue makes me rant and rave in horror. It knows that I now want to spend whatever money I can find to buy a Zorb. And most of all, it knows that seeing the Twins get eliminated was the most exciting moment of this show, even more so than when Christie's soul broke eating a kilo of caviar.

Damn them all for this show.

I really like them (and am going to buy the next book when it comes out too), but a lot of people hate them because they think they're condescending to children. Which I think is a misreading.

Ahahahahaha...am looking forward to that as well, especially since said meltdown in going to be happening in my turf, so to speak...will not tell you where, as that may constitute a spoiler, but local commercials for the next two episodes are all a-squee about it. ^__^

But oh, my, my. The family is putting forth wondrous speculations about where the heck is the ricefield they put Mr.Boombastic!Psycho!Colin into. I'm thinking maybe it's an area where, if the wind blows properly, there is a distinct odor of organic waste to assault gently-reared nostrils.

Wish we had dolls of that nature in my store. We only carry four major lines of dolls, two of which are baby dolls. Blah.

And damn, I hate when people jack up the prices on EBay. Especially when it's something I really want, and I'm a serious cheapass. Seriously, yesterday, I went on ebay to find a 1984 He-Man in Battle Armor, and the only one I could find was outrageously priced, even with it being 20 years old. Sigh.

Ack!

No dolls!! Dolls are scary. I've never liked them - they are too much like frozen people who probably wake up and walk around the room at night and stare at you while you are sleeping. -shuddering-

Stuffed animals, yes. Dolls....no, no, no, no.

Oh, and clown dolls??? The absolute WORST!! They are demons, I tell you!

Dude, don't even get me started on dolls/action figures. I buy LotR toys like a crack addict. Right now, I have Helms Deep Aragorn,Legolas and Arod (the horse Eomer gave him), my beloved Boromir action figure, Galadriel, and Elrond. My friend and I have almost the entire Fellowship between the two of us, we just need Gandy and Sam. I'm really, really trying to keep my willpower intact now that the coronation set is out. The one with Aragorn, Arwen, Eomer, Eowyn, and Faramir. I need that. Apparently a Denethor is supposed to be coming out soon, which I will buy with the quickness.
