Goodbye July

Confidential to a good friend of mine, since I don't want to jinx it by sending it myself:

Also, while I was at TV Tropes the other day, I noticed the Cloverfield page. The "Darwin" bit isn't actually attributed to me (and who knows, maybe I'm not the only person who came up with it), but it turning up there is yet another proud moment in my life.

Twi-spam: Stephenie Meyer's First Comic Book Convention Turns into Media Blitz; MTV’s Kim Stolz On Interviewing Stephenie Meyer Before She Moderates Tomorrow’s ‘Twilight’ Event; Stephenie Meyer Sits Down With MTV, Says ‘Breaking Dawn’ Should Be 2 Movies (which gets a big "..." from me); 'Breaking Dawn' Concert Tour: Live and exclusive to EW.com! And then EW and MTV roll around on the floor catfighting.

(In case you were wondering what the Beedle the Bard thing was about in the previous entry, there's more down below in the spam proper, but it was actually announced and put up for pre-order just this morning [because it's Harry and JKR's birthday]. That's why you've never heard about it going on sale before: it didn't until today. And that's why the pre-order bestseller rankings are so funny.)

MOAR LINKSPAM:

Tee hee! Oh, Johnny, you would make me so happy as a Batvillain, darling. The fangirls would explode.

OK, so tell me you've read these leaked seven chapters of Twilight, because they're outstandingcrack. And ha ha, pwned by Beedle! That makes me happy.

[identity profile] wintersweet.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I like Keanu Reeves more than most people do, and I'm not 100% sure I can see it.

I think you might actually like "Cowboy Bebop," though. There's just the one, fairly short series, and the one animated movie, so it's not a huge commitment. Great music, too.

[identity profile] pygmymetal.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Cowboy Bebop - has a corgi! :D

[identity profile] kitaloon.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like to think that my response to Johnny Depp as the Riddler is governed by a mature cinematical viewpoint and a deep loyalty to the source material, but I would be wrong; it's OMG JOHNNY DEPP, a string of exclamation points, and then static.

I absolutely love the way Jon looks in the Watchmen posters. I have no idea how they managed to make a giant blue glow look lost and wistful and human, but bravo, CGI dudes. Bravo.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Trust me, you have no idea.

[identity profile] schmoo999.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Stephenie Meyer Sits Down With MTV, Says ‘Breaking Dawn’ Should Be 2 Movies

So she really wants to be JK Rowling? Nice try.

Also the Watchmen movie posters, I noticed in Laurie's a photo on the ground looking slightly torn, I swear it is the photo of Jon Osterman and Janey that is such a big part of Dr. Manhattan's chapters.
Love all the little details.

[identity profile] fateorlate.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Looking at the posters: You can clearly see the whole phrase "Who watches the Watchmen" on the Comedian, Ozymandias and Rorschach posters. BOO HISS. (Or maybe, considering how important they are, it's incredibly clever. Also clever: Having Ozymandias's clock at the midnight position.)

On Cowboy Bebop: It, along with Neon Genesis Evangelion and Serial Experiments Lain are sort of the Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen of anime, especially in America, where they showed that anime wasn't just cute and light. Spike's the main character and one of the biggest badasses in anime, so having Keanu play him is so wrong on so many levels. And makes me do a Big NOOOOOOOO.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
And she has a bottle of Nostalgia on the table!

[identity profile] theevilgenius.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, yeah, I've watched like three animes in my entire life (for the record, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Fullmetal Alchemist), and I definitely still enjoyed watching it.

[identity profile] schmoo999.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
I am clicking on the photos to make the posters huge and going over them like crazy. I can't tell what the paperback book is in the Comedian's poster though.

I am seriously more excited for this movie than I was for Dark Knight.

[identity profile] r-a-black.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
It's pretty cocky of her to suggest the book be two movies like that. If I were her, I'd be grateful for their being any movie at all, because from the looks of the first two trailers, I'd be hella suprised if there was a New Moon movie. She's reaching a bit too far too quickly, I think. The first one hasn't even been out yet, she doesn't honestly know the kind of response it will get. Maybe I'm biased, but a lot of the time I see her interviews, her head seems a bit inflated.

[identity profile] kitaloon.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure the Comedian's book is an issue of Tales of the Black Freighter, which is pretty brilliant; he's the Comedian, of course he has a comic book.

Also, I'm not sure if the shoes in Laurie's poster are supposed to be hers-from-the-comic or Sally's, but either way, I am excited.

[identity profile] swordmage.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
See... I'm here going "Philip Seymour Hoffman - who would he be?"

(The husband suggests Penguin.)

[identity profile] callmesyd.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
I was all set to post a totally jazzed response to all the linkspam, and then I saw the Cowboy Bebop link.

NO

NEO IS NOT SPIKE

I HAVEN'T EVEN LIKED COWBOY BEBOP IN LIKE SIX YEARS BUT NO THIS MUST NEVER B--

oh god i just realized they're gonna have to try and cast edward oh god oh god

ABORT ABORT ABORT ABORT ABORT

[identity profile] swordmage.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
but a lot of the time I see her interviews, her head seems a bit inflated.

Oh good, it's not just me.

[identity profile] fateorlate.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
It looks like "Tales of the Black Freighter"! With a tiny little (old school) DC logo!!

[identity profile] callmesyd.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
One might almost say that the thought inspires a DO NOT WANT.

I can't get behind this American fascination with taking perfectly good (and awful) anime and making them live action for no good reason. WHYYYYYYY. THEY'RE FINE (OR AWFUL) THE WAY THEY ARRRRRRE.

[identity profile] schmoo999.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!! (I seriously need new glasses and could not read the cover. lol.)

So damn cool that the Pirate comic made an appearence. I read that it is not being included in the movie:( But a sperate animated DVD based on the story might be done. I think.

[identity profile] greyduck.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
That's one hell of a trifecta, there. Well played.

[identity profile] cantinera.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
How freakin' big is Breaking Dawn to need two movies?

I am going to read it, but I know I am already sick of it. I had to organise the party at my work. Looking at the Excel Spreadsheet from head office for all the stores in our country (and I work for one of the major two book chains in the US), excluding the district which is Stephenie Meyer's hometown area, we have by far the most copies of any store. Like, insane amounts. I am kind of fearing tomorrow.

[identity profile] schmoo999.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
These posters are just made of "awesome" as my 5 year old son loves to say. (Usually that applies to Spiderman or Godzilla)

:)

[identity profile] fateorlate.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly! And in some cases (like Death Note and Sailor Moon,) they already have live action versions! Why not just dub and release them stateside? DID NOBODY LEARN ANYTHING FROM TOOMAKERS SAILOR MOON?? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGhylP1wQqI) *weep*

[identity profile] greyduck.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
oh god i just realized they're gonna have to try and cast edward oh god oh god

Oh, shit. I hadn't gotten that far along in the processing of the whole idea yet. (I haven't put very much time into this, mind you. I'm doing my best to not care.)

So.

Spike? They're going to get it wrong, fine. I think everyone's coming to grips with that... some of us more and faster than others, naturally.

Jet? Easier to cast than you might think.

Faye? Curves and attitude, so there are options available out there. Admittedly, many of the options are terrible, but whatever.

Ein? Dog.

Edward? The good news is that they'll have to cast an unknown. That's the only good news. (Of course, being an American live-action film, Edward's going to show up for maybe ten minutes of screen time. Le sigh.)

This has catastrophe written all over it, and I'm going to spend the next however-long-'til-it-arrives doing my best not to care. Yep.

[identity profile] jigglykat.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
I still hold onto my belief that there is no one cool enough to play any of the characters in Cowboy Bebop, ESPECIALLY Spike. So casting Keanu? No, no. A world of no.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I've also seen people say that about her website and her Comic-Con appearance. I don't know, maybe she's buying into her own hype. I mean, God knows enough of it's being thrown at her.
