Wooooooo

Had to dogsit Pete the puppy today--Sister Girl has to close at Panera tonight, so he would have been alone for ten hours straight, and her boyfriend couldn't watch him because... he's at Comic-Con on business (the comic book buyer, remember?). So... I had fun with Pete, but didn't get a damn thing done today. Sigh. And I spent all yesterday putting out various e-fires (which is just to say, I had a lot of email to take care of) while not really running on all cylinders, so... I'm a little loopy right now.

So basically... it solves Wikipedia's biggest (and it is big) problem. Of course, it retains a few of its own--the potential to be less democratic and more biased than Wikipedia.

AAAAHAHAHA. Oh I wish I had a significant other who could placate me with MSR role play. Alas.

also: there are too many WOW movie things going on here for me to comment on (Sean Penn! Y! The Last Man! Cowboy Bebop!)

Just out of curiosity, is the address on your info page still current? ;P

[identity profile] outinthestorm.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome.
And you check it regularly, yes? So if something, say, edible turned up, it would be picked up in short order?

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Heee. I check it on the weekends, usually, but if you think it might get here after then, I can check again.

[identity profile] outinthestorm.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully it will be there by the weekend, but if not, I'll find out the ETA and give you a heads up. ;)

Hi Cleo,
just wondering if anything has turned up yet?
Cheers!

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, nothing has--I checked on Monday; I'll go check again tomorrow.

Hi Cleo,
I'm guessing that nothing has turned up yet?

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing! And I checked on Monday. Weird.

[identity profile] outinthestorm.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Hmph.
I will have to go and find out what's going on.

The Cowboy Bebop news alternately terrifies and thrills me. They're starting to screw with anime I like now, so it's getting a bit personal.

Meanwhile, is it okay that I sort of totally approve of Bale defending his wife if that's what it was about? I mean if that's the case, while I know I should morally be on my "anger never solves anything" pulpit, I would completely be thinking in the back of my mind "aw, that's kinda sweet in a twisted, Russell Crowe-esque manner".

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I don't want to trust the tabloid version of the story, because it feeds very much into what I want to believe, but it's kind of sounding like his mother, from whom he has been somewhat estranged since she made him choose between her and his father (he chose his father and they moved to LA? Some article was saying this today?), started shit-talking his wife, and he reacted as a man under a lot of stress will react when someone shit-talks his wife: shit-talking back. I think the current version of the story is that he "lightly pushed" or "brushed" his mother, and then later she and the sister went to a police station and complained. Again, it's tempting to view him as a hero here when he really might not be, but... the family is not coming off very well in the current version of the story.

[identity profile] anne-jumps.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.
I hadn't realized his stepmother (since 2000; his dad passed in 2003) is Gloria Steinem until I was looking at the Wiki page on him a few weeks ago. Plus Jenny Bale was a part-time circus clown and that will probably fuck a few things up.

[identity profile] crumpeteer.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I've been keeping up with it on ONTD (which has seriously set feminism back like 50 years through all of this, and that's a conservative estimate) and everything is so fishy and weird about all of this that I really want to give Bale the benefit of the doubt so bad. I've always loved him and always loved his wife and while he may have come across intense or cranky some times, he also came across blessedly human. I think that's why so much of me wants to believe this version as his reaction is also blessedly human.

I thought the series was fantastic, but even the anime CowBe movie wasn't that great. I can only imagine the pain that an Americanized live-action rendition will bring. Ugh.

We can't just leave things well enough alone, however, so the pain will come whether I will it or not. See also: Shamallamadingdong's Avatar movie.

I wrote but did not post in my own blog that I felt that Bale was "innocent" of anything but perhaps yelling at his mother.

It felt totally wrong the moment I first saw the headlines and looking up online trying to suss out the family history, I noticed that Bale talked about his dad and not really about his mother which spoke to a not so good relationship.

I can totally see his mom and sister trying to cash in on Bale's popularity because he refuses to give 'em any handouts.

Why I didn't post it though is because I've had friends in the public eye be accused of things when it was really being done to them and and frankly you don't really know unless you're there.

I don't know Bale so I can't be sure but there's never been a single iota of a sign from him indicating the kind of person who would commit assault or battery that we picture in our minds.

Hey the man let himself be upstaged by Tom Cruise at the Batman Begins premieres without ever really batting an eye so I heard. That is the kind of thing that would drive many lesser people into a rage. But I never heard about him bitching or being angry about it. Just "whatever". Irritated maybe, but it's a rare few that doesn't find Tom Cruise irritating especially with behavior like that.

BTW that picture of Shia?

I swear I've seen the original picture before... but can't decide if it's Brenda Fraser in George of the Jungle getup or Jason Scott Lee for Jungle Book.

Gut instinct is Brendan.

I just needed to say what I can't contain my laughter at finding Hasselhoff in the Uwe Boll slot.

[identity profile] misachan.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I know it's wrong, but my knee-jerk response was to give Bale a pass when I found out his mom was a circus clown. Apparently my clown fear is stronger than I'd realized.

My second reaction was to giggle that Batman got arrested for threatening a clown. It's like it's opposite day!

Dude! When did Gary Oldman get so -- so fucking CUDDLY?

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
My theory is that Alfonso Cuaron decided to use him in POA because of course he's Crazy Gary Oldman, of course he's going to try to kill Harry Potter--so the people who don't read the books were totally convinced and so they never saw it coming that he would actually be the good guy. And then when people saw that he actually played a good guy really, really well, his second career in cuddliness took off.

[identity profile] bigeyedrabbit.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I just remember that as Gordon in the first movie, he brought such a solidity and dependability to him that I kind of ended up thinking, "Fuck Batman! If I'm in trouble, I want Lt. Gordon to save me!

Yes Man, Duchess, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Fly Me to the Moon.

For some reason my eyes missed the "trailer_spot" identifier, and I read this as the title of an article. My brain was trying to come up with what it might be about before I realized what happened--I was half-convinced it was a story about some crazy person in love with their dog "Duchess."

Hey, I thought it was funny. ^^;
