It never rains but it pours

So I went downstairs to the rec room to look for some glue (long story), and I was bowled over by the foulest stench I have had the misfortune to inhale in a good long time. Now, the cat's litter box is down there, but I was doubtful that the cat could have produced a funk this pernicious, and also, it grew stronger as you walked away from the litter box. Well, we've had some really severe rainstorms the last week or so, and it turns out that... we have water damage. The carpet under a table (where we didn't immediately see it) got soaked. Reek ensued. We've had to call some people in (Serve Pro or something?) to come dry it out with industrial-strength dehumidifiers and carpet cleaners and fans and whatever. Which means: more money that we have to pay someone. And then my mother started talking about paying off her part of Sister Girl's student loans and I just put my hand up and said, "I can't hear about this until I finish the annotations. You can tell me then. But there's nothing I can do about it--except finish these annotations--so don't tell me now. I SAID, DON'T TELL ME NOW. I SAID LA LA LA LA LA." I already had a massive headache that lasted most of the afternoon as it was. And I know I said that I thought some of my tension was hormonal, but I'm starting to resubscribe to the palpable stress theory.

I have more linkspam than this, but I'm tired:

Gawker Kills Facebook Stalker Feature?

'Moonlight' Canceled. Well, maybe Sophia Myles can get something decent now.

Chuck Palahniuk's Book Trailer Basically Straight-Up Porn.

The best poncho ever!

The Worst is Yet to Come in 'Speed Racer' Crash-and-Burn.

"Half-Blood Prince" Set Visit Report and New Tom Felton Photo; also, not used in OOTP: Lucius Malfoy's mugshot.

Twilight finished filming; Exclusive: ‘Twilight’ Filmmakers Hope To Shoot Sequels Simultaneously; Happy Birthday, Robert Pattinson! (read: he's 22, so you can all stop feeling dirty); Stephenie Meyer the New JKR?; a comic that made me laugh for about ten minutes straight. It's all about the third panel, y'all. Also, I am trying to steel myself to actually start reading the e-book of the first novel.

2 New Batman TV Spots; Secrets of The Dark Knight - trailer breakdown.

'The Edge of Love' trailer.

Snakehead Camera System Soars In 'Quantum of Solace'; Daniel Craig Wants Amy Winehouse To Record Bond Theme, even though it's already been said she won't be able to pull herself together long enough to do it. I tell you what: you get me a pony covered in rainbows, and I'll get you Amy Winehouse.

David Cronenberg Digging the 'Timecrimes' Remake?

Arcade Fire Scoring Richard Kelly's 'The Box'; Kelly Won't Helm Darko 2.

Natalie Portman Ditches 'Wuthering Heights'--but it looks like Stelios is signing on.

Scott Glenn to play Rumsfeld for Oliver Stone.

Audrey Tautou Still Adorable as Coco Chanel.

Megan Fox Topless for Some Kind of Movie or Something

'Fraggle Rock' to Stop Being Fond Memory, Become Sad Future.

Nic Cage Remaking 'Bad Lieutenant' with Werner Herzog! Oh sweet God.

Cate Blanchett says no to plastic surgery: “I see someone’s face, someone’s body who has had children, and I think they’re the song lines of your experience, and why would you want to eradicate that? Death is not going to be any easier just because your face can’t move.” And that is why she is my favorite actress.

You know, I think God is trying to get back at us by allowing Nic Cage to continue making movies. Just my personal opinion.

And my friend gave me that comic earlier and I couldn't stop laughing. I don't think burning OR exorcism could stop the shame of that book.

I'm so sorry, dear! D: That really sucks.

I love that comic. Twilight makes me twitchy.

[identity profile] callmesyd.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Every time I see your Twilight icon, my brain goes "Keira Knightley wut?" Is it me? Am I imagining the likeness at 100x100 pixels? It's the cheekbones, I swear to God, someone back me up here.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm... I can kind of see it.

Mmmm, Edge of Love trailer. If I have been led to believe correct things, that is Keira singing at the beginning.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I had also heard that she got to sing.

I hope you don't mind, but I was inspired by your icon to create one of my own.

Heh, I love the Twilight comic. It's actually sad that it's so true.

[identity profile] foresthouse.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Aw. I continue to send hugs.

I've had 3 water leaks in my studio apartment. Fortunately they were small and not on carpet, but still - I know how annoying it can be.

...

And completely unrelated to anything, look what little bit of news I found on the Simon Pegg National Doodle Day auction page (http://cgi.ebay.com/Simon-Pegg-Original-Doodle_W0QQitemZ260238652248QQihZ016QQcategoryZ58QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem):

Simon confirmed in an interview on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross that he will be co-writing and starring in another film with Nick Frost. The title will be Paul, and will revolve around Pegg and Frost road tripping across America.

Now that's one road trip movie I'll actually watch. I am excited!

I'm sorry things are still going wrong for you guys. It's got to turn around eventually.

Any chance homeowner's insurance would help defray the cost of repairing the water damage?

Nic Cage Remaking 'Bad Lieutenant' with Werner Herzog! Oh sweet God.

I'll have to second that thought and add a WHAT.

And I didn't realize that Speed Racer opened so poorly, but isn't it still premature to call it a flop? When did everything become hinged on the opening weekend?

That said, I won't be surprised if it continues to not pull in crowds. For a family movie, most of the advertising hasn't really been geared towards kids, and the reviews have been...mixed. I'll still probably see it though.

[identity profile] callmesyd.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
It was pretty fun, though I found myself wanting everyone to just stfu and go back to driving fast... or at least get out of the way so I could go back to leering at Hot Korean Race Car Driver With The Total JPop Hair.

And by the end, I hated the monkey.

BUT OTHER THAN THAT

[identity profile] sneaky-minx.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god hon *hugs* That's just...I'm so sorry to hear all that.

[identity profile] alpheratz.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I'm for unnecessary cosmetic surgery, but it's pretty easy for Cate to be against it, seeing as how she looks like a goddess walking the Earth, and probably always will.

I keep re-reading the penultimate link, and its weird: the entire sentence is in English, and yet it makes no sense.

Ugh I hate the rain we are getting hit with right now. I keep waiting for the trees next to the creek we live beside to wash down with each storm and more coming Thursday night.

Nooo I was so hoping Moonlight would somehow pull through and have a second season. I was all prepared to snark and hate the show but then it won me over. I mourn now for my Friday nights.

[identity profile] outinthestorm.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Probably not the best time to mention this (with moeny and all being tight), but I seem to remember that you like unusual chocolate? (http://coffeeinhell.livejournal.com/850038.html?nc=15)

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm really boring in my chocolate preferences--milk chocolate, nuts, and hard toffee, and not all that much else. Those chocolates look pretty good, though.

...you know, I am personally very VERY excited to go see Speed Racer this weekend (in IMAX!) with my dad. I dunno - I know it supposedly got burned and pillaged by the critics, but the people I've heard from who have actually seen it loved it. So... I'm still excited, no matter what.

And yes. That comic is amazing. I couldn't stop laughing for ages.

[identity profile] queenofattolia.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well, maybe Sophia Myles can get something decent now.

Not to mention Jason Dohring (pitifully underused ONCE AGAIN). Boy, that show was a derivative piece of dreck -- I'm surprised it lasted more than 6 episodes.

[identity profile] izzy-unkempt.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Jason Dohring was on a show and I didn't know it?! How sad...oh, how I miss Veronica Mars.

[identity profile] melayka.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
ROFL. In the depths of the comment thread to that (amazing, LOLful) Twilight comic, there is a sentence that sums up everything that is Edward/Bella:

"YOU'RE SO INCREDIBLY PLAIN AND LOVED BY EVERYONE, I THINK I'D RATHER DO YOU THEN EAT YOU."

Bless you, random internet geniuses. Bless you. <3

[identity profile] phantomess05.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the update on Wuthering Heights... is it bad that I'm okay with the potential Heathcliff casting?

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, dude, I can totally see it. Of course, my favorite Heathcliff was Ralph Fiennes, and Michael Fassbender seems very in that mold, visually speaking.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

yes.

Cate Blanchett FTW.

Nic Cage Remaking 'Bad Lieutenant' with Werner Herzog! Oh sweet God.

NO NUDE SCENES PLEASE JESUS.

Also if I win the lottery I will totally send you a pile of money. Plus chocolate.

Nicholas Cage in BAD LT? Oh God, I hope he keeps his clothes on...

David Croenenberg for TIMECRIMES should be good; hope it eases him back into Body Horror rather than the mainstreamy gangster stuff he's flirted with lately...

[identity profile] valancy-s.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're going to read Twilight, you may want to check out this handy reference tool (http://otahyoni.livejournal.com/130432.html#cutid1) - a public-minded LJer counted up the number of times Edward is described as "godlike", the number of references to his physical beauty broken down by body part, etc. It's rather brilliant.

[identity profile] blinkliz.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
Dear lord, that is the most brilliant [albeit: the only] piece of Twilight parody deliciousness I've ever seen.

I particularly died at:

"He led me to a small creek and sank gracefully into the grass at its edge. I tripped over a pebble and landed on my face in the mud. Edward laughed. How could he love me? He was so beautiful, gorgeous, and perfect. Like the statue of David come alive. Like Adonis, a god, an angel."

~~~
She's right, though. Save for some baseball and prom dresses, that's basically the story. ^_^
