It never rains but it pours

So I went downstairs to the rec room to look for some glue (long story), and I was bowled over by the foulest stench I have had the misfortune to inhale in a good long time. Now, the cat's litter box is down there, but I was doubtful that the cat could have produced a funk this pernicious, and also, it grew stronger as you walked away from the litter box. Well, we've had some really severe rainstorms the last week or so, and it turns out that... we have water damage. The carpet under a table (where we didn't immediately see it) got soaked. Reek ensued. We've had to call some people in (Serve Pro or something?) to come dry it out with industrial-strength dehumidifiers and carpet cleaners and fans and whatever. Which means: more money that we have to pay someone. And then my mother started talking about paying off her part of Sister Girl's student loans and I just put my hand up and said, "I can't hear about this until I finish the annotations. You can tell me then. But there's nothing I can do about it--except finish these annotations--so don't tell me now. I SAID, DON'T TELL ME NOW. I SAID LA LA LA LA LA." I already had a massive headache that lasted most of the afternoon as it was. And I know I said that I thought some of my tension was hormonal, but I'm starting to resubscribe to the palpable stress theory.

I have more linkspam than this, but I'm tired:

So that's where this monsoon came from. You guys just dumped it on us.

Aww, I'm sad about Moonlight (although it's not unexpected). It was one of those totally idiotic shows with pretty people that just grows on you.

A friend of mine found a free online version of Twilight and has been reading it and sending me select excerpts... wow. It reads like fanfic written by a middle-school girl, especially in the way she describes EVERYTHING through adjective-heavy interior narrative, instead of just implying it through dialogue and circumstance. SHOW, DON'T TELL, STEPHIE.

omg thanks for the Twilight comic. made my morning start off right.

i thought the sparkling vampires thing was a joke. XD i can't get past the description on Amazon so i'm clueless on that thing except yum!Robert. i may just watch it with headphones on.

It's all about the third panel, y'all. Also, I am trying to steel myself to actually start reading the e-book of the first novel.

On my last post on my journal I linked to a few reviews on the book, including that comic. I made a review myself, but the others are much more organized and not as lengthy, so they're ten times more enjoyable.

It'd be cool if you did read the first book at least. I'm sure you won't like it, it's just that I look forward to the various ways you'll probably make fun of it. Icons and all that. At the very least, it's horrors will shock/amuse you.

I just powered through the book last night. Omg I love it like cake. Rainbow-flavored cake. Borne in by pink ponies. I want to buy it in hardback and snuggle it whenever I feel bad about my own writing. I'm working on a post right now.

*giggles happily* >.> I'm totally sending you a virtual Christmas card this year, with virtual candy even.

I just added another post myself because, well, I just couldn't help it. It's shorter than the last and a lot more organized but it might not make sense to as many people because it's more on the latter books, (yes I've read all three, don't judge me).

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Shit, I'm gonna read the other two! But not just now, because I have to go reread the first one again. You have to understand, it's a kind of bad that makes me extremely happy. (See also: Van Helsing.) It took me about four hours to read the thing, and I giggled through all of it.

[identity profile] r-a-black.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It is definitely giggle worthy, and I'm still curious about how she's going to put an end to it because it's like thrown up in the air all oddly. If she doesn't stop at the 4th book though, I won't continue reading, I just don't have that kind of brain power.

Oh, and I'm not sure if anyone's ever told you, but it looks like she intends to do Edward's version of it all, she's already posted up the first chapter on her site. (http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/otherprojects_midnightsun.html) At the very bottom is the link to the file. "At first I was planning to post it all here on my website, but I changed my mind for two reasons, the most important being that Edward's version is much longer ... The second reason that I changed my mind is a little bit silly—I just would really love to have a pretty, matching, bound version of Midnight Sun to put beside Twilight on top of my desk. So I'm going to try to have it published as a complementary novel to Twilight." This woman is effing unbelievable. Not in the good way, either.

Hallo there. I've been reading your LJ for a while and only just now realized that I should probably friend you. I know you said you love it when people do this, but I still wanted to give you a heads-up.

I love all the fun talk about the Twilight movie! I haven't read the books yet but I plan to do the first one soon, so I can see what all the fun is about.

Oh, Palahniuk. How far you've fallen.

Oh man, they cancelled "Moonlight"? Yeah, it was kinda dumb, but it was great to watch after a long week, just a nice way to unwind. Like a TV-romance novel. Now I'm sad. :(

[identity profile] drpeprfan.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, good luck with the money stuff. I know everyone's feeling the crush of the recession.

As for Moonlight, I wouldn't put the final nail in the coffin (ha) just yet. I'm one of the "rabid" fans involved in saving the show, and I can safely say there's no end in sight. It's CBS' loss, really, because the show was just starting to get REALLY good. They canceled it because of 'ratings' but the show actually won its time slot pretty much every week. And it won the People's Choice Award for Best New Drama. With all this Twilight stuff going on, CBS is going to wish they still had it once the movie comes out and everyone is going vampire crazy. Oops, this is long...happens when I'm passionate about something. But just don't rule it out yet (actually, I thought you might like Moonlight, Cleo, it's one of those things you can love like ponies - for one, Alex O'Loughlin is gorgeous and has ten times the acting talent of most actors in television)...The CW is in talks for a midseason pickup, and if they decide not to, both USA and SciFi are "extremely interested". :-)

This has nothing to do with nothing but... can I use your Edward Sparkle motion icon with credit, please?

Of course! I made a whole series of them somewhere...
