This is one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Oh, like my new JF icon?

Unrelated P.S. No, Launchcast, I do NOT want to hear William Hung's "She Bang." Bad KLEO! Bad!

Hee! Somebody on my flist linked to those pictures as real a few days back. I looked at them and thought "Fuck, they must be A2 sized to get that amount of detail!"

And then I looked again and thought, "What the hell's the point of a drawing that looks like a photograph? Why not just have the photograph?"

And then I looked again and thought, "Oh, it is just a photograph."

Actually, I use plain old mechanical pencils. That's how much of an artist I am. In fact, this is the first time I've come out of the the photo-sketching (http://img12.photobucket.com/albums/v36/cleolinda/misc/sketch_polley.jpg) closet--I just do it for fun, for practice, and because I'm not good enough to draw very realistically from my imagination. Which makes it even funnier to me that this girl's trying to pass off filtered photographs as real sketches that she'll sell "prints" of.

Sorry, I'm iggerant - photo-sketching?

I just have this 'thing' that drawings shouldn't be nearly indistinguishable from photos. In the case of Crystal's stuff, the fact that it was nearly indistinguishable from photos was an indication that she perhaps should have spent longer with her graphics software.

That said, I nearly always work from a photo reference with my stuff (http://www.anejo.nu/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=art). I don't have a good enough grasp of anatomy yet, though I'm working on it.

I do like yours. Although I hate you because you can draw hair.

Well, that's basically what I meant by "photo-sketching"--sketching from a photo reference, but only a photo reference. Because the photo, you know, sits still and all and can be carried around in a notebook and whipped out in a few minutes of free time. I mostly just started doing it in middle school to see if I could. The trick is to draw what you actually see (lines, curves, shadows) rather than what you know you see (hair, mouth, eyes). That's how I learned to do hair, basically.

And I do agree--why have a drawing that's identical to a photo? I just do it to practice accuracy in general, learn how faces work, etc.

Ooo, hey, your stuff is good.

Bwah-Ha! Oh this JournalFen thing, if I knew enough about it, I'd join. I sketch real people a lot and believe you me, stubble is a nasty bitch. No one can get it exact. I call shenannigans. I've never tried tracing a picture. Huh. *ponders*

Well, I'm not so bad I have to trace. I just find it easier to draw from a 2-D model rather than a 3-D model. (And you can tell I don't trace, because my sketches usually end up skewed at least a few degrees. Which is how you can tell the other girl is tracing/photoshopping--hers are perfect copies.) Also from color photos, not b&w, because the result suffers less in comparison. :)

stubble is a nasty bitch

And that's why I only sketch women. The faces tend to be a lot simpler and more refined. Remember, I'm just a dabbler, not a real artist of any kind.

Yeah, it is damn near impossible to draw an image exactly. And if her originals didn't have grid-lines, then yes, it is a fake. It is very, very rare to be able to draw from a 2-D image without using gridlines. I use them often.

I usually sketch both, though I have been known to draw feminine men when I'm in the mood. Haven't drawn a masculine woman, however

Ugh. I loathe William Hung's She Bangs. It's kind of pointless for radio stations to play his song since his "performance" is more of a visual one. That's like listening to TV sounds while you are in another room.

I like your drawing!

This photo (http://www.anatsuno.net/LJ/wank/dominic3.jpg) and mauralabingi's comment (http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/374922.html?thread=23962506#t23962506) made me literally LOL.

The part that made me howl was this, shortly after that comment:

iamtheenemy: Wow, Dom's got a bit of a gut in that pic. Also, an abnormally long torso.

shinigami_co: Not to mention the whole "MY HED IZ PASTEDE ON YAY" effect. He really should have that checked.

Oh, and it's gotten so much better since I posted this entry, too. Now we've done overlays of her "sketches" over Rankin-Bass (!) cartoon stills and outed those as tracings, too...

Oh *does creepy-i-was-up-all-bloody-night-reading-this-thing-damn-england-laugh*, I've been reading.

The saddest thing is that she didn't even find good hobbit pictures to steal draw, there are pleanty out there! Bakshi hurts me in that space where my heart used to be.
