Not to knock my FURIOUS RANT OF FURIOUS ANGER re: The Other Boleyn Girl off the top of the page, but I just heard that Jeff Healey passed away, and wanted to share my favorite Jeff Healey Band song: "Angel Eyes." It's actually the only one I know, but I've loved it since--I was a kid in the '80s, I guess. I remember taping the song off the radio and pretty much wearing out the cassette--one of the great joys of getting to college and discovering file sharing is that I could finally have a full, real copy of the song for myself. So, you know, give it a try, and if you like it, look into some of his other work (and recommend some more to me).

I'm sorry to hear that. I've enjoyed "Angel Eyes," too, although that's about all I know. (The past week has just been terrible for music-related deaths, hasn't it?)

Thanks.

Ugh, I hate it when they all happen at once. Good Lord.

Well, he did a good cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and "See the Light" was quite enjoyable.

Sad news, indeed.

WHAT?

Holy shite. I'm shocked. I'm Canadian, so I grew up with his videos on tv all the time.

I love that song so much... and I haven't heard it in years. I didn't know he'd died, either. Damn.

Oh no, Jeff Healey died? I knew him from Angel Eyes too, but I had no idea what an amazing guitarist he was. Or that he was blind. Or that he played said guitar on his lap. Check out this youtube video of him and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

If there is an afterlife, I like to think that Stevie Ray was there waiting for Jeff so they could jam like this again.

Wow - I hadn't even read the other comments yet, and I too added a JH & SVR video below (http://cleolinda.livejournal.com/583518.html?thread=28528478#t28528478). Truly amazing stuff. I'll miss him.

That's really sad. I remember Angel Eyes coming out and I adored that song and had a real fondness for Jeff Healy. I only ever had the See the Light album but I loved the whole thing.

Oh no! :(

My dad is a huge fan of his...and I just sent him a text at work to tell him about Healey's death...classy, I know, but my mom was going to do it if I didn't.

I'm really bummed for Jeff and for my dad...

Cancer is freaking evil...my family has lost so many people to it...

RIP Jeff...

If you can stand to watch Road House (and really, who doesn't love mocking watching Patrick Swayze movies?), Jeff Healey was the resident performer at the Double Deuce.

Aw, that's too bad. I remember that song from high school. I also remember him being really young, but the report says he was 41. Which just makes me feel old.

I think I still have that CD somewhere. I'll have to dig it out.

Oh, how tragic. So young. I too loved Angel Eyes and will second the recommendation of the entire album, See The Light. I also really liked Hoochie Cootchie Man and his cover of Roadhouse Blues from the Roadhouse soundtrack.

omg. how sad...

I remember "Angel Eyes" from when I was little...thanks for sharing the download! This song brings back the good ol' days of being a kid and not worrying about all this adult crap.

I remember slow skating with my crush to Angel Eyes when I was in 6th grade.

I miss going roller skating, why can't I be 12 again?

I was lucky enough to have met Jeff many, many times over the past decade - we have mutual friends in the Canadian music scene - and he was one of the funniest, kindest men I've ever been privileged enough to know. He owns a fantastic club in Toronto (rightly called "Healey's") where he hosted some fantastic nights over the years. I was just there less than a year ago to see some of my friends jamming, and it's one of my favourite places to go. I hope his wife is able to keep it open. He loved it there & would just randomly show up on stage sometimes, just to play, for the love of it.

A friend of mine posted this on her LJ today, so I thought I'd share it here: a great musical moment between Jeff and another major loss to music, the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan.

ETA: I now see this video was added before my comment, but man, it's worth seeing twice. ♥
