Crap, it's Lostursday! I am so not used to this. Anyway, while we're here, a personal note: congratulations to David and Karen on the baby!

ETA: Whoa: Breaking: Warner Bros absorbs New Line Cinema. (What does this mean? No word specifically on The Hobbit or The Subtle Knife.)

I know. I forgot, too. I do wish it were on Wednesdays again; it was such a good mid-week marker.

Wedding Crashers was one of "the most popular films in entertainment history"? Umm.

They're obviously exaggerating, but I can imagine the untrained eye looking at its pretty high placement in the all-time grossers list and getting that impression. To the trained eye, an R-Rated non-sequel comedy that made 200 million is still impressive.

For real. Just because they don't understand, they don't want anyone else to do anything. (I deal with people like this at work all the time.)

combining comments to save time (I was going to post this not as a response to you:) I really like this geophysics stuff, but I hope they continue to go into detail about it in the future. It's cool to know what's happening now, but I hope they eventually tell us why.

side note: woah, the physics dude looks terrible in 1996. (that hairdo does not suit him)

Warner absorbing New Line just might mean that The Hobbit and The Subtle Knife might suck. I mean, look at the Harry Potters, which are not exactly shining feats of blockbuster film making.

Date: 2008-02-29 04:49 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] skyblade.livejournal.com
The Harry Potter movies were kind of in-house corporate synergy from day one, though. To be fair, when the studio makes mistakes, it's usually erring on the side of letting the directors do what they want (Lady in the Water, Superman Returns, The Matrix sequels) Plus, they still have MGM to answer to.

The Subtle Knife is not going to happen. It was not going to happen. That we saw such a quick turnaround for The Hobbit pretty much said that much.

Yeah, I usually don't get all squishy over animals dying on TV, but I'm a new rat-mom. I was quite with the sad.

Also with the going, "Hey, it looks like they're using the same brand of small-animal bedding that I do," but that's also partly because I'm being slowly driven insane by a job in a pet store.

Yeah, I'm kind of hoping that -- ah what's his name, Mitch? Mike? from the boat, who wants the 3.2 million -- gets to bump Charlotte. He's becoming interesting, but so far, she just kind of seems evil. But she can't die before we find out what kind of research she was doing.

He wasn't originally on the plane so he can't be one of the 6. Same as Juliette.

So in chat we were discussing how it's still December 2004 on the island, so maybe this means they have to jump ahead 3 years when they go home. [livejournal.com profile] kallieopeia said she understands why some may have stayed behind:

"Wait, Bush got re-elected? Fuck that, I'm staying here!"

Best Episode Ever. EVER.

I don't get all that OTP about Lost (I mean, I lean towards Jack/Kate, but I won't cry bitter tears if she winds up with Sawyer or Sayid or Rousseu or whomever) but if Penny and Desmond don't get their happy ending it will wreck me.

I KNOW, man. I was so so so scared that Desmond was going to die mid-phone call (because I can for sure see Lost pulling something like that) Those two need to reunite in person so I can watch my male friends tear up again.

OMGWTF The Black Rock landed on the island in the 19th century! Rousseau's, like.. old, man.

Also, yay for Desmond's happy reunion! I'm not much of a Desmond fangirl [my heart belongs firstly to Sawyer, secondly to Charlie], but still - it was a great moment.

Date: 2008-02-29 06:11 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lilgoala.livejournal.com
No she's not, the Black Rock wasn't her ship or anything. She came to the island on a research vessel with the rest of her people, but they all got sick and died (or went crazy and she killed them? or she killed them because she went crazy?) after they visited the Black Rock, which was already marooned on the island.

Cleo, I hope I'm not imposing, but I've got newcomers to the HP wank, and I distinctly remember a post by someone who summarized the legal motions (?) as they came out of Warner Bros. It was a numbered post with basically person, credentials of the person, the summary of the motion, and then a colloquial one-liner summarizing the summary. Trouble is, I can't find it. I'm hoping you or one of your readers can direct me to it. Thanks!

I have no idea--there's a ton of people who have discussed the case. Even in terms of numbered posts--the Leaky Cauldron's coverage (new article yesterday)? praetorianguard's legal commentary? The posts I've done on FW are listed here (http://wiki.fandomwank.com/index.php/Lexicongate) (most recent: yesterday (http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/1143250.html)), and I put up a page at my own little wiki here (http://cleoland.pbwiki.com/Lexicongate).
