Oh my God. I had a really bad day, and my blood sugar was really low, and I was having to clean up the kitchen again after the second gigantic baking mess of the day, and my stepfather came home and turned on the news and they were talking about someone who had died and I went into the den and there was a big picture of Heath Ledger and the words "TMZ says pills were found besides Ledger's body." I said "Oh my God" about six times, and then I went back into the kitchen and tried to finish cleaning up, and I started crying, and I don't even know why.


Heath Ledger found dead in NYC at age 28.

TMZ can be a bit sketch, but when they've got the story, they've got it. They're camped outside the scene right now--they were the ones who followed Britney around to the hospital when she had her breakdown earlier this month. I saw it on CNN or whatever just ten minutes ago, too.

The weird thing is I think I've seen him in like maybe two or three movies total. I was really excited about the next Batman movie and thought he looked great in the six-minute IMAX clip, but he wasn't one of those actors I really followed or anything. I think my reaction was almost as shocking to me as the news itself.

When Brad Renfro died, I was sad, but not shocked or even surprised. But Heath Ledger? That was one of those where I wait for the "all a horrible mistake" retraction that never, ever comes.

Because he was a nice guy, a father, a talented guy and had the trajectory of one of Hollywood's major stars. But more...not as much for everything he was, but for everything he was going to be.

We can stay up all night and it's not going to start making sense. Don't try to rationalize it, or what you're feeling. It's just the way we are.

The board I help mod (are you on Snarkfest? I can't keep everyone's varying SF/LJ usernames straight), it usually falls to me to put up birth/death dates on celebrity death threads, so that people can know the worst immediately and not have a heart attack every time a new celebrity thread starts--no dates, no problem. So I put dates on there when someone does die. I went to Wikipedia and saw that he was only five months younger than me, and I went off crying for another ten minutes. So yeah... I think you're on to something, that it's sort of a gut feeling of sorrow rather than "I was this guy's biggest fan and now I'm crushed." It's just a... human sorrow.

I'm still waiting for someone to pop out and go, "Ha ha, happy early April Fools!" and say that Heath Ledger really isn't dead. Out of all the early obituaries that the AP has come out and said that they have on file, I doubt that Heath Ledger was one of them. He seemed to be so reliable and normal and was an incredibly talented and gorgeous actor and now he's dead. So. Not. Cool.

Same here. He's always been one of my favorite actors, I just loved him so much. I felt sort of silly for crying over someone I didn't even know, a celebrity no less, but when you grow up watching certain movies and falling in love with certain characters.. It's just really heartbreaking.

I agree with one of the posters above, where he's one of those celebrities you wouldn't really "expect" that to happen to. But I guess this reminds us that no matter how many times you see someone smiling in front of a camera, you never really know what's going on inside.

I feel really horrible for his daughter, especially.. poor thing =/

Oh, man, Roar was one of those shows I watched religiously when I was younger. It was fun and dorky and he was SO PRETTY.

I didn't realize it had been Heath until years later.

My mom called me like the second it first started showing up on the news and I was totally convinced that she was just making a joke like usual till I went online to confirm it myself. But whoa... I guess I really didn't know much about his personal life, but I never pinned him for the druggie type....

actually i really liked that about him, he didn't constantly pop up in the news for doing something stupid like most young actors seem to nowadays...
