Date: 2008-01-14 03:05 am (UTC)But seriously, if Atonement wins the Oscar I'm going to lose a lot of faith in the system. Considering that I have no faith, that's either quite a statement or none at all. I mean, I haven't seen No Country for Old Men or There Will Be Blood yet, but basically all that Atonement has going for it are pretty costumes, pretty people, and a really long tracking shot. Of D-Day. It, not surprisingly, was also pretty. Somehow.
And, to be fair, James McAvoy, who in addition to prettiness had actual depth, and talent, and - dare I say? - a tiny hint of grit. Other than that... not so much.
Also, I cannot express how entertained I am that Julian Schnabel won director. I haven't seen that one yet, either (god damn it, they all need to come nearer to me!), but I always love it when somebody comes out of the blue like that. (As long as s/he's deserving, obviously, which by all accounts he is.)

Date: 2008-01-14 03:16 am (UTC)I've been predicting an Oscar win for her since July. Her performance was the most amazing female performance I've seen in a while.

Date: 2008-01-14 04:26 am (UTC)Also, I'm glad Johnny won, period. He's deserved to win multiple times now.
I haven't seen Atonement yet (tomorrow!), but that one didn't surprised me at all.
I miss the whole shebang of the ceremony, though. :/

Date: 2008-01-14 10:31 pm (UTC)While I was visiting your town, and compared the quiet village of 900 inhabitants I grew up with your Cleoville of 800 inhabitants (well, they look completely different , for sure *giggle*) I noticed the "ville fleurie" sign under the town sign. And it was very familiar to me. How cute is that!
The programmer of this game must be French, because French towns have indeed that flower system. French towns with four flower symbols on their flower sign have lots and lots of flowers in their streets and public places.
Like this, a real french village name sign with lots of flowers around it. I just thought you might appreciate this detail.
