So. Uh. My keyboard is kind of dying. Last night one of the keys got stuck, and today the colon doesn't work. (The semi-colon works just fine, so the key's not stuck, which is just baffling.) So of course my /referred (guess which letter doesn't work!) keyboard, the Microsoft Internet Keyboard, isn't in /roduction anymore and I have to /ick out a new one. Which I have; I just have to wait for it to come in from Amazon, because everything chea/ was /icked over due to Black Friday, and the only other o/tions were hella ex/ensive wireless monstrosities. Oh, and my mouse was on its last nonexistent legs anyway, so a new one of those is coming in, too. I can't decide if I want to bother trying to lim/ through a links/am entry this way, or try to forage someone else's castoff keyboard, or wait, or... what. But, you know, that's where I am.

Hey, Cleo, I'd guess that your 'p' doesn't work. So, here you are, have two new ones: Pp - just copy them, and paste them whereever you need them! :)

Sometimes my keys don't work so well - I have to press down really hard just to get an Aa or a Zz. Which is bad, as I hsave a laptop, and can't easily replace the keyboard! Individual keys can be replaced, though, or just popped out, cleaned, and then (very tediously, and with a lot of patience) replaced. Good Luck with your keyboard!

Well, I clearly can't be as helpful as editornia, but I can vote for linkspam, because you copy and paste most of the titles and suchlike in there, and you've been given the gift of the letter P and a colon.

Last year, my laptop was giving my some troubles on certain keys, mostly due to it being a hand-me-down from my stepdad who had cracked the casing. Duct tape seemed to help, till in the middle of one of my online class finals, half the keyboard just stopped responding. Nothing is more stress reducing then having to run to Best Buy to get a new keyboard while trying to make it back before your time limit expires. *eyeroll*

This summer, while doing some spot touches on the carpet with the canister vacuum, my husband went "oh, there's some dust on the keyboard!" and went after the computer before I had a chance to stop him, and now I have no "z". =)

I hope you get a nice keyboard, I hate having to get used to a new one when I liked the previous one just fine.

There's a keyboard in the computer cluster in my dorm that is weirdly messed up.
a = a + caps lock (caps lock is also caps lock)
2 = 12~
x = zx
tab = ctrl + shift
And I'm sure there are other problems with it. Not long ago, I spent thirty minutes trying to figure out which keys did what so that I could log in to my e-mail account to print something I'd sent to myself (all the working computers were being used), only to discover that that particular computer didn't like to talk to the printer.

Reminds me of two things:

In Misery where the writer is being forced to used the dilapidated old typewriter to complete the 'masterpiece' for his psychotic fan and the keys slowly die as progresses through the manuscript.

My friend bought a brand new IMac and after a couple of months of use her E key DIED rather dramatically. I still laugh about it from time to time, even though Apple was good enough to replace it post haste.

The next time you need a certain character, you can try the Character Map found at Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map.
You can copy and paste or, if a program supports it (such as WordPad and TextPad), you can drag and drop a highlighted character into a document.

RIP, Cleo's keyboard

I'm always amused by the substitutes people use for malfunctioning keys. Here, the "/" made perfect sense. My "n" key fails from time to time, and I usually use brackets, thus "[]", in its place. I'm not sure if my approach makes sense, though. (The n, by the way, is a horrible key to lose - it's in everything).
