Not posting much tonight--my right hand is aching for some reason, the muscles or tendons or something between my thumb and forefinger. Probably strained it from overuse at the computer--took advantage of the weekend to do some more research. So, kind of hurts; giving substantial posting a day off or so.
However, the world is still busily discussing the Great Dumbledore Outing of 2007 ("Outing gives Potter passages new meaning"), and also, there are icons, because it didn't happen if you didn't make icons. First two of mine, below: text from littlest_lurker. Second two: text from kaesa, based on a previous set of FW icons I'd made.
Oh, I should note: "I love my dead gay son" is a line from Heathers; the last two pictures in the fourth icon are the Weather Girls and this illustration, respectively. Also, don't ever Google Image Search "raining men." "Wait, those aren't men! Oh... 'Thai ladyboys.' "
And to finish, from
callmecaito: "I'm going back and compiling Dumbledore quotes, and rewriting them so that he outs himself! Because his gayness is really that important, he really should have worked it into all his discussions, really." Example: At that moment, Harry fully understood for the first time why people said Dumbledore was the only wizard Voldemort had ever feared. Voldemort... was homophobic.

Date: 2007-10-23 03:21 am (UTC)Item two: I could never get tired of Dumblegay. Especially now that it's being called Dumblegay
Item three: my right hand is aching for some reason. I'm sorry, but when I read that, the 13 year old boy in me had a good rofl.

Also, canon supports Sirius being gay too. Just saying.

To me, the whole situation reads more like nothing ever happened between them, and Dumbledore probably never even confessed his attraction.

Tolkien: "So the thing is, Lerdan The Obscure was actually related to his wife, distantly...well, really, who in Middle Earth isn't? Well, people without wives, for one thing..."
Interviewer: *is a skeleton*
God bless that brave, brave man with the funny name.
Also, can I marry your icon please?

Date: 2007-10-23 04:57 am (UTC)Or perhaps they're suggesting she made him gay in the first place for the attention. Maybe these people just aren't writers, but when writing, you don't always have complete control over your characters' personalities. Some things just sort of develop on their own, and you let them, because they work.
Another annoyance are the offended parties ranting that sexuality, be it homo or hetero, (and yes, they always specify 'or hetero' in a thinly veiled effort to hide their own homophobia) has no place in childrens books, despite that Dumbledore's sexuality isn't even alluded to in the books. If the heterosexuality had bothered them, why weren't they complaining about all of the snogging going on in HBP?

Date: 2007-10-24 12:10 am (UTC)Honestly, it's ridiculous, some people's reactions. It doesn't matter. He's still Dumbledore, people. It doesn't change anything, really, if you think about it.

Date: 2007-10-24 05:18 pm (UTC)Yeah, because they obviously thought it was inappropriate to mention that Mr. and Mrs. Weasley are married. We didn't need to know that they're straight. Ewww...
