Was anyone really surprised that Snape was a white-hat all along? I never got the whole "NO, HE IS PURE EVIL" brigade; one of the staples of throughout the series was "it's not who you are, it's the choices you make", and Tragic Hero Snape was totally emblematic of that.

I enjoyed the book, sappy epilogue included. The people going batshit about poor quality writing and continuity errors were clearly not paying attention when they read all six other books.

Only thing that didn't sit quite right with me: the dismissive, unnecessary deaths of Remus and Tonks, which were totally glossed over. It's like she felt she hadn't hit the appropriate body-count numbers by the end, and decided "Well, I suppose we could do away with those two. Avada Etc." Though she does get yet another angsty orphan out of the deal, so I guess she just couldn't help herself.

In conclusion, I am naming every single one of my children Albus Severus.

I think JKR is really into circular writing, so maybe she felt that, if she's starting the books with an orphan, she has to end the books with an orphan. Still, couldn't the orphan be Pansy and Blaise's kid or something? Why make the multicolored werepup's life even worse?

However, if JKR suddenly decides to write a book about Teddy Lupin, I will forgive her for killing his parents.

I'm not getting my book until next week, and this isn't a problem for me. However, with everyone going, "OMG NY TIMES AND SPOILERS, SPOILERS IN PDF FORMAT BEWAARE, CAREFUL SPOILERS IN THIS COMMUNITY/POST/COMMENTSSS"

I've been really tempted to spoil myself. Now I want to know damnit! I'm tempted to go and read every single one of these places that have spoilers. Argh. I'm going to dinner.

Also, I'm curious: How does everyone feel about the whole book being leaked? Are you utterly horrified? Delighted? Conflicted?

Personally, I'm torn. I mean, on the one hand, it's a shame that someone took it upon themselves to go against the wishes of the book's author and distribute her work both early and free. However, it was almost a guarantee that spoilers were going to make their way out once the books were delivered to retailers and libraries, and I think an abundance of out-of-context spoilers flying around is a far worse scenario than people being able to access the complete text a few days early. I mean, at least in the latter situation, everyone is reading the full work as intended by the author, and forming their opinions from that. When people start judging the book based solely on bits and pieces of info - well, that's when I would get pissed, were I the author.

In terms of the leaked book hurting sales...well, somehow I don't foresee that being a problem. Still, I suppose it's the principle of the thing, in the end.

Forgot to mention the fact that Snape was the only decently developed character at the end of the book - and I really don't think he deserves to die. But yes. That was maybe one decent factor in those books.

The scene where Harry rescues Draco from the fire... yeah, I dunno, but reading it I really wanted him to succeed so bad. She's not the best writer in the world by far, but somehow she really managed to nail it with that scene.

You know, I finished the book and I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed. I was totally with it, til around the last 200 pages. That reads like a bad fanfiction. The whole Snape/Lily thing makes me roll my eyes and I was really disappointed with the end.

I suppose as long as JKR likes her book, it's alright though.
