From [livejournal.com profile] cleojones: The new Golden Compass site EEEEEEEEEEEEE! I AM SO EXCITED THEY FINALLY HAVE A SITE UP SQUEE. So excited, in fact, that I had to get screencaps. Yes, that is Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel, by the way. And there's an alethiometer you can play with! Certain combinations "unlock exclusive content," but I'll be damned if I can figure out what they are. Click for larger images.

("Coming December 7." So they opened the site--as of yesterday, is my guess--363 days in advance. Well played, New Line.)

ETA: Yeah, that's Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter. Also, cheats for the alethiometer have been posted in the comments, if you go looking. They unlock seven production art wallpapers--I'm going to go ahead and link to two of them, because the production design is... interesting: Lyra's London and what I'm assuming is Mrs. Coulter's carriage.

I thought I was going to have serious issues with a blonde Mrs. Coulter, but I have to say, Nicole Kidman looks damn awesome.

Am I the only person in the world who's not excited for this movie? I tried so hard to read the novel. I just cannot get into it...I think I stopped reading half way through.

It was on the third try, after I'd gone away awhile and my reading tastes had changed a bit that I could finish the series.

Well, I read the series and liked it, though I thought it got a little cheesey there at the end (this coming from a fantasy/sci-fi genre fan o_O) but I'm hoping the movie smooths things out. Honestly I love Nicole Kidman so I'm thinking her playing Mrs Coulter might make me sympathize with her more.

Awesome! For the longest time I thought this movie was never going to get made. It could still end up horribly, but I'm excited anyway. It looks beautiful. I hope we'll get to see some actual screenshots of the bears soon, as opposed to concept art.

That alethiometer is driving me insane. Outside of it being a fun spinny thing, and me making up my own answers, I'm not seeing a point, because I can't figure out the combinations! *goes back to spinning*

Oooh, it's pretty. If it's all like that, I may end up liking this as much as Narnia. Except Narnia had Swinton. Still, Kidman looks good and I like her acting. We'll see.

OMGYAY. I'm getting really, really excited about this. And I'm pleased with the second picture of Lyra, she looks tomboyish, as she should, instead of gussied up (as she is with Mrs. Coulter). And damn that alethiometer. More frustrating than tarot cards >_<

And that site talks XD That took me by surprise. But now I gotta keep reminding myself that it's Liiiiiera, not Leeeeera.

[livejournal.com profile] cleolinda, I just heard the most spectacular indie artist I have in a long time! This girl deserves all the pimping she can get - I put my money where my mouth is and started in my own journal. I'd love it if you'd take a moment to check out my plug for her - and if you agree, perhaps add a plug in your linkspam for her - she's terrific!

You can find my journal entry plug at Ladyhawke's SJ Tucker pimp post (http://ladyhawke-wings.livejournal.com/76456.html)

Thanks!

OMG OMG OMG GOLDEN COMPASS SITE SQQUUUUUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

It's funny, I'm rereading this book for the 40th time and realized that they describe Mrs Coulter as having black hair. For some reason, I've always pictured her as a radiant blond (actually, the actress that played Marita Covarrubius from X-Files was who I pictured her as). I guess I just glossed over the black-hair part the first 39 times I read the book.

At least they have a blond Mrs Coulter in the movie, so now I don't have to completely shift my mental view of her.

The same thing happened for me (regarding her hair) and apparently the movie people too! Maybe it had something to do with having the word "golden" used around her so often, for the monkey?

See, I feel like the books progressively unravel more and more with some of Pullman's weirdness about religion, but that's why I figure the movies have a shot at being great: nowhere to go but up, is there?

(Also, I love Lyra and Will and Pan. Can't help it.)

When they first cast Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter I couldn't picture it at all but she looks great! I really think she's going to be amazing in this. I'm itching for a trailer though! I want to see what Lyra will be like.

I'm 2/3 through the third book in the series, so very excited about this!

I am not a Nicole Kidman fan, because I think that she gets cast in roles that aren't right for her, but she is so perfect for Mrs. Coulter that I was thrilled when I learned that she was the choice. Daniel Craig is younger than I imagine Lord Asrial being, but I think he'll be a good choice.

In some ways, I'm most excited about Sam Elliot as Lee Scoresby!

I always imagined Mrs. Coulter having sort of mahogany colored hair--at least a medium brunette color--but yeah, she looks good. And I always imagined the White Witch with black hair, but Tilda Swinton turned out pretty well, so I'm kind of learning just to trust and go with it when they adapt a book.
