Not much going on today, except that I'm hoping to get in a swim before the daily monsoon arrives.

Glenn Ford dead at 90.

If you have a cell phone, you need to read this: "Trust Digital resurrected erased e-mails and other information from a used Treo phone provided by The Associated Press for a demonstration after it was reset and appeared empty. Once the phone was reset using Palm's awkward 'zero-out' technique, no information could be recovered."

Bartender gets $10,000 tip on $26 tab.

The Onion: "Amid growing personal concern that the subjects are not receiving enough national attention, singer–actress Jessica Simpson announced the launch Monday of an ambitious, multimillion-dollar campaign promoting awareness of her breasts."

[livejournal.com profile] sexion8: "Another wtf creature found dead. In this case, scientists DID haul it away, but not before plenty of photos were taken. It looks like something straight out of The Dark Crystal." Oh my God! They found Jen's master!

(Wow, there's a Muppet Wiki? Whoa--there's pictures out from the sequel already?)

(Whoa, whoa, whoa. Who the hell decided how the gelflings mate? Seriously, it's like gelfling porn. I love how the article has been slapped with a "canonicity" warning up top.)

New stills: The Wicker Man, HollywoodlandFlushed Away (I was wrong, Em--it's not Ewan McGregor, it's Hugh Jackman), The Departed, The Black Dahlia.

well, i'm glad my old one got run over. asdflkjfd. i think the most incriminating thing on my new phone is the Euro 2008 qualifier dates. though this does give a great excuse to come up with a code words and nicknames.

Stories like the big tip one make me go "awwwwwww".

Also, I am very much chomping at the bit for The Black Dahlia. I may have a fit over the costume!pron.

I was listening to NPR this morning when they ran the story about "Glenn Ford... found dead at the age of 90." As unfortunate as that is, it is not as unfortunate as the message immediately following. It was an underwriting message for the Ford Foundation which ended with their website address: "Ford Found dot org."

Oops. Made me laugh while I was shaving. But I'm kind of sick that way.

I guess this proves how geeky I am. I'm looking at the Russian wtf creature and thinking "man, why couldn't they have gotten better, close up pictures". Honestly, I mean in terms of IDing this thing, these pictures are useless.

My guess is that it is some kind of seal/seal lion. Like a leopard seal or something similar.

or, heck, without being able to see the skull or the limbs well enough under the decaying stuff, it might as easily be a whale.

The critter looks like some kind of crocodilian. If you look at the tail in this shot (http://www.englishrussia.com/images/russian_sakhalin_monster/monster2.jpg), you can see the double row of bumps down the tail. And if you look closely in this one (http://www.englishrussia.com/images/russian_sakhalin_monster/monster4.jpg), you can see that the teeth are cone-shaped, like a gator's or crocodile's. The way the upper jaw curves several times looks similar to a crocodile's, too. The only thing that's missing is the nasal cavity, but maybe it broke off.

Okay, that creature is scary...Of course boring scientists are gonna come running and tell us what it really is, not really a fantastic new creature, blah, blah :(
Keep us updated, okay? :)

And whoever came up with the connection to Dark Crystal...LMAO, priceless! :D

Huh...interesting critter, that one.

I'm not sure what it is, Cleo...but I know what it reminds me of.

It quite puts me in mind of that skeleton of the Mosasaur that the Red Mountain Museum had, back in the day. Looks to be similar in scale, too.

Though if those things are still swimming around out there somewhere...I'm not sure I want to know about it.

We've been discussing the Skeksis over on the snopes boards (http://msgboard.snopes.com/message/ultimatebb.php?/ubb/get_topic/f/24/t/001483.html). Current most likely theory from our resident biologists is "beluga."

The big tip thing is kinda...creepy. I mean it's cool if it's just some rich guy whot thought the girl needed a break. But what if he expects something back from her, and she doesn't feel like like giving back. I dunno, one of those slippery slope things IMO.

Also...O.O to pic of scary decaying monster thingy...if it IS a whale RIP...if not...RIP anyway?

cheers

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Who the hell decided how the gelflings mate?

Wait? The dreamfasting? That was in the original movie. Gelfling brain-sex, no kidding. It was the only thing I loved better than the fact that only girls got wings.

No, no, no--go read the bit in the article about the "mating dance." There's just a part of me that never wanted to find out what the favored gelfling sex position was.

All I have to say is: I totally agree with this, and I want MY sex to be called dreamfasting and occur through the brain. Think how much you could LEARN while having...well...fun?
