Zoloft 150, down from 200, day 2: Mmm, hot flashes. I dig the dizziness as well.

"Snakes on a Blog" on a premiere.

Snakes On A Motherfucking Press Junket.

Shouldn't the movie come out first, before we have Rocky Horror-style scripted interactions?

British journalist weirded out by convention of Harry Potter slash and/or smut writers in Vegas.

McGregor, Jackman are Tourists. Between this and The Prestige, Hugh Jackman is revealing himself to be a tireless advocate for female fanservice. "They want guys! Pretty guys! Two guys! Get me Jude Law on the phone, stat!"

"Fiction's for girls!" The best part is how plotless, "psychological" fiction is the fault of female writers. Which is weird, because I associate that kind of navel-gazing with hipster male writers. It's also the reason I've said, to hell with that people think is supposed to be "literary"; I want to write books with plots and stories and things that happen, that are also "literary." It just happens that I also think that psychology drives action, and that this Russell Smith in particular is an idiot.

I love Girls Are Pretty--which, by the way, has nothing to do with girls or pretty. Each day is a "holiday" of some sort, if you will. Today: "Everyone's Pretty Sure You're the Reason All the Kids Are Going Missing Around Here Day!"

Hon, if you are a young man and you pick up the book section, you are going to spend the rest of your life wearing a major-ass truss.

That one almost made me snort my tea onto my monitor. :p

When I read that article, I alternated between "yeah, that makes sense" and "you know nothing about fandom and are really quite stupid, aren't you?"

Some choice quotes:
"This is Harry Potter for adults. A concept that I'd always thought of as one of those minority tastes like quantum physics for children. Or Star Trek for girls."

Um, a lot of girls like Star Trek. As evidence, let me note that [livejournal.com profile] dduane had this article up on her LJ this morning, and she's written a few of the ST books.

"It's the first time that women have ever dominated fandom in this way, and so of course it's all about doing extra homework and making sure your uniform is nicely pressed."

Ick. Where to even start with this? Not only is it sexist, it's not true. LJ is full of female-dominated fandoms.

Last year the Ursine Self-Defence Bill was defeated in parliament by 602 to one, the single favourable vote cast by Sherman Barthlomew, MP, who along with Henrietta Hatchett, has done much to promote the arming of bears against illegal hunters and bile-tappers.

Stephen Colbert is going to want to hear about this.

Oi...when I tried going cold-turkey off my Paxil (EVIL EVIL DRUG!) I felt like my heart was beating everywhere but my chest...yay to nausea and migraines.

So with the help of a good doctor, and SLOWLY reducing the dosage, I managed to not kill myself. Though I don't have the same depression issues as you, I found I came alive, and was no longer a Paxilbot...

Life is still tough though, but I can always fine solace in writing. It's a wonderful talent to have, and you have it by the vat-full.

Hey, most of the greatest writers ever have/had serious depression etc...it's like a right of passage for a literary genius. Welcome to the club.

Not sure if you've seen this, but it seems like something you might be interested in spreading around. The president of a gardening supplies company decided it would be a good idea to use the company's customer e-mail list to advocate prejudice against gays and to urge people to write to a tv station because he was offended by some mild homosexual content.

For a number of inconvenient reasons, I ended up taking 2 mgs of klonopin a day for about eight months. The ween off of that? Was kind of amusing in its insanity. I had the dizziness, in addition to insomnia and the shakes. It was kind of like two weeks of a really, really bad caffeine overdose.

Good luck with your meds!

"'I do Snape and Harry. And Snape/ Lockhart. There are female characters in Harry Potter but they're just not very interesting. Ginny 's like the popular girl at school who picked on us, and Hermione is just annoying."

Someone tell me that's not the actual reason for slash fiction. I mean, for crying out load, a third of the crap involves random death eaters who, while evil, are less interesting (or at least far less developed as characters) than the females in the series. I mean, I've seen things involving Fenrir Greyback, Rabastan, and Regulus (not all at once--I think, I've not actually read the stories). How can anyone possibly claim that any of them are more interesting than loony Luna Lovegood? For that matter, how does Lockhart possibly qualify as interesting? He's just a prissy little fop, for crying out loud!

I have a feeling I'm going to regret this rant....
