Rather than spam your friendslist with a one-sentence entry, let's just set this aside for Lost discussion as well, okay?

ETA: I'll post it again, but here's the new Hanso-related website. (Sponsor: Jeep.) I can't get it to load yet, so I'm going to let the traffic cool down a bit before I go back.

I've got some linkspam I need to post, but once again, I've gotten behind on LJ stuff because I've been writing (zomg). I kind of talked my mother into seeing Mission: Impossible, since I needed to see it again to catch some things I wasn't clear on the first time (like the spelling of Keri Russell's character's name, which I found spelled four different ways on various websites and press materials. In the movie, you actually see it spelled Lindsey Farris, so I at least got that locked down), and I know her. I knew she would love it. What was really funny was that she did, but we're walking out of the theater and she says, "Darn it, that was a really good movie! I didn't want him to have a good movie!" Hee.

Also, she spent the whole "fulcrum in Shanghai" part clutching me and whispering, "Oh my God! Shit! Shit!" It's sad that Alias is going off the air, because I realize now that she would have loved that show. (She is absolutely addicted to Prison Break and the Jack Bauer Power Hour [™ spidey_88].) I'll have to get her into syndication reruns or something.

(It's a PENDULUM, Luther.)

Also, they showed the new POTC2 trailer again, and my mother was very happy.

[The team attempts to extract intelligence from Davian on the Impossible Plane.]

ETHAN: You’re dead. You’re on a plane that’s about to crash onto a mostly deserted island, which is actually purgatory, or maybe a psychiatric experiment, or possibly some autistic kid's snowglobe. You will be surrounded by improbably attractive people who will get killed off during various sweeps periods. Occasionally, my cousin will terrorize you. Also, there will be polar bears.
While we're talking about it, my plan is to keep MI3 for the potential book, but anything that's not franchise/series that I get to do, I'll put online. Specifically, The Da Vinci Code, which my mother really wants to see. Except that it's getting terrible reviews in Cannes from the American critics over there, where it's getting panned not as "cheesy" or "convoluted" or "ridiculous," but... dull. "Stodgy and grim," as one guy said. So... basically, I'll be taking that bullet for you.

Actually, the Alias boxsets are pretty reasonable. Not too bad to give for gifties.

Yeah, I suggest getting her the first two seasons at least. Totally worth it.

Ethan speech: hee!

Haven't seen M:I3, but I'm so torn! The Boy saw it and loved it, but I totally don't want to pay money to see it. I won some free movie tickets at work, and I want to use them for a movie I want to see but don't want to pay for, but I was going to put American Dreamz in that category... What to do, what to DO??!

I'd pick MI3 over American Dreamz. I saw both, and while AD has some very funny moments, I spent most of the movie somewhat bored. I've seen MI3 twice and really liked it. So, that'd be my vote...

Some BBC guy said that people were giggling during Da Vinci Code beacuse of all the over-dramatic-ness and unintentional humor...which sounds a lot like the book, actually.

(I still may see it. It'll take a lot to keep me from Audrey Tatou)

I saw Mission: Impossible III last night. Having not seen the first two, I liked it, although I couldn't help but laugh at the Alias-style chronology and the CPR scene.

THat's one way the Christian groups to get people to boycott the movie. Make sure everyone hears from a friend whose friend saw it that the movie is really boring. Americans don't like to be bored.

Sadly, I was the only person in the theater who laughed during the Jerry Maguire moment in the beginning. And we aren't just talking small, easily covered giggles; we're talking belly-laugh-sized guffaws. I can't believe they honestly didn't see it. (they == audience, filmmakers, anyone who knows Tom Cruise)

Sob for DaVinci. I really enjoyed the book. I mean, it wasn't great literature by any means, but it was an edge-of-your-seat thriller, and it's a shame that perhaps the film doesn't quite match up. The only other film directed by Ron Howard that I've seen has been The Missing, and I'm not entirely sure how related the two could possibly be in terms of filmmaking style.

Well, The Missing was dull as dirt too. It's the only Cate Blanchett movie I've ever fallen asleep in.

I've read a few of the reviews for Da Vinci Code and most of them say that the supporting cast (mainly Ian McKellen and Paul Bettany) save the film from its own boringness.

Date: 2006-05-18 12:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
Yeah, I have heard a lot of praise for McKellen in particular. And my mom loves Paul Bettany but didn't know it ("Oh! That guy in Master and Commander!").
