Update: Hello, I am a superlative asshat. (ETA: The entry is gone now. Go here.) What I love is his vague insistence that he's proved we're "fktrds"... somehow. (Hmm... has Teresa Nielsen Hayden already disemvoweled him?) Also, I don't see any proof that he's back in New Orleans--he didn't include a landmark in that handy "YOU SUCK" picture. Personally, after a three-hour police chase, I would have kept going rather than turned around and gone back, but that's just me. Also, dumbass, the way you prove a picture was taken on a certain date is not to just write any frickin' date you want, but to include a newspaper of that date in the picture. But then I suppose the Birmingham News (or the Times-Picayune, though I doubt it) would have confirmed his location, wouldn't it?

As for the rest of it, I suppose it's always possible that his side of the story might exonerate him, but somehow, I have a feeling that if it did, he'd tell it, and provide some of this ample evidence from his PHOTO TAKING and his PRINT SCREEN BUTTON and his GMAIL, just to shut people up, rather than crow vaguely that he's bested us... somehow. So, basically, carry on, except that now he's proven himself to be utterly remorseless as well. I'm sure some lucky prosecutor will be thrilled to hear about that.

Also, I'm not sure that someone with six Livejournal names and three MySpaces, IIRC, has any room to rag anyone about being "an internet loser."

(Has he darkened his hair? It's hard to tell in the picture. And what the picture of Heather/niamhstar down there is supposed to signify, I don't know. In case you're wondering, by the way, comments were disabled on that top entry because people started trolling her journal. In fact, I have heard that there was an entire community dedicated to cheering this guy on ["Whoever finds him, give him a medal"], and Livejournal ended up suspending it. Bearing this in mind, go back and read what I said the other day again. Now you know why I want to find a good national charity or women's shelter.)

Actually, I've seen this kind of reaction a lot at Fandom Wank. When someone gets called out for being a fandom asshat, basically, they often come over and make some statement to the effect of, "IT IS YOU WHO ARE THE LOSERS!!1 YOU HAVE FALLEN FOR MY EVIL PLAN!" And everyone sits there like, "Your evil plan to... make us laugh at you? What?"

It's basically the result of feeling defiant but having no ground to stand on at all.

Does it have to be a federal case before we can ask and before LJ can give it out? I mean, what's the ruling for this sort of thing? If he's already a criminal, then LJ would just be assisting the police with their investigations if they volunteered info, no? How confidential is his IP, especially now considering his criminal status?

I have no idea. I suppose LJ has everyone's IP address, but I don't know. So far as I know, they've cooperated with every police investigation that has occurred re: a LJ user so far; I think it'd be more of a matter of getting the police to ask them at this point.

Yeah, I got an e-mail from livejournal saying that the members to the "willhuntiscool" community, who I reported for several things at once, currently can't be suspended unless they make remarks somewhere else and get reported for it.

Therefore, if you see anyone trolling her journal, supporting him, etc. Just report them, responding to them is going to do nothing but spur them on. They want reactions, but not consequences. Give them consequences instead.

The whole thing is just a horrible story, but what creeps me out the most is that I've heard pretty much... nothing on the traditional news outlets (Ok, I'm in Pittsburgh, which is pretty far from the situation, but still) so the whole thing is playing out in front of me on LJ. That makes it... more real somehow.

That's an excellent point. You're not just bein an faceless asshole on the internet when you turn on the the news and see what a big deal this really is.
Because being faceless is really what the whole thing is about with the assholes cheering him on. I mean, you can't exactly sit down with people and be like "Yeah that guy who kicked that girl in the face? My hero." without people going "...Wha?"

And I bet the internet's "facelessness" (not the best word to use when the ass is posting PICTURES OF HIMSELF, but I can't think of a better) is a bigrea son why Hunt here thought it was a good idea to post in his LJ. "So a bunch of jerks on the internet are searching for me - it's not like anyone SERIOUS is out there threatening me."
