You know, after paring away all the massively outdated links (most of them relating to Cheney), I realized... I really didn't have all that much linkspam backed up after all. Huh. I did update [livejournal.com profile] dailydigestnews with some good stuff, however.

A (form) letter I just got from Common Cause--remember the Net Neutrality thing I linked to, like, twice? Yeah. It's worse than we suspected.

Dear Lauren,

The threats to our Internet freedoms just keep coming.  We learned this week that Verizon already has plans in place to create a privileged fast lane on the information superhighway to deliver its own services, and a slow lane for anyone trying to get anywhere else on the web.

Common Cause needs your help to keep the Internet open, fast and fair.

http://www.commoncause.org/KeepInternetOpen

We've already sent nearly 60,000 letters to greedy telecom executives, and we're working on a series of reports to expose the shady tactics that these companies are using to convince our representatives in Congress to put an end to net neutrality.

We can do more with your help.  We're more than 2/3 of the way to reaching our funding goal.  Please help put us over the top!

http://www.commoncause.org/KeepInternetOpen

Thank you for all you do for Common Cause.

Sincerely,

The Common Cause Media Reform Team
Celia Wexler, Lauren Coletta, and Dawn Holian

Lost follow-up: Lost Media won't have screencaps up for a few days so I have nothing new to link to, but you may have noticed that the photograph the Army commander takes out, near the end of the episode? Is of Kate. He is, in fact, Kate's father. And we have seen him with Sayid before. Also, people are busy at work trying to translate the hieroglyphics, and so far I've seen three translations: SAYID, SAYIF ("say if"), and this.

First there were Freedom Fries... now there are Roses of the Prophet Muhammad.

Scott Stapp and Kid Rock Sex Tape surfaces from the depths of hell.

Uwe Boll to Retire from Video Game Movie-Making. Because Germany closed that tax loop God felt like he had to make it up to us for that sex tape, somehow.

Willie Nelson Releases Gay Cowboy Song. Oh, Willie, you trend-whore, you.

The Valley Girl URL Translator. The really funny thing to do is go plug the BPAL "Maelstrom"/Poe scents page into the translator:
"The Amontillado!" I said.

"He! Like, oh my gawd! he! Like, oh my gawd! he!—he! Like, oh my gawd! he! Like, oh my gawd! he!—yes, the Amontillado. But is totally it not getting late? Like, I am so sure! Will not they be awaiting us at the palazzo, the Lady Fortunato and the rest? Like, I am so sure! Let us be gone."

"Uh huh, uh huh, right," I said "let us be gone."

"For the love of Gawd, Montresor!"

"Uh huh, uh huh, right," I said, "for the love of Gawd!"
EEEEE! Here's the Avalon-series pendant I commissioned from Wearable Sculpture (actual size). It's the tower of Condwiramurs. The hit of the series so far seems to be [livejournal.com profile] akathorne's Isle of Avalon pendant, although I am also partial to this Lady of the Lake bracelet. (No, you can't tell what the theme of each piece is just by looking at the album. I only know those because I know the items' owners.)

Paris Exhibit Examines Picasso and Maar. I always liked his portraits of Dora Maar, and that whole period of his.

Greek Hiker Finds 6,500-Year-Old Pendant.

Cornwell to Help Solve Hunley Mystery. Oh, you mean the way she "solved" the Jack the Ripper case? ("Ripperologists and other critics of her theory point out that most, if not all, of the Ripper letters are considered hoaxes by all other authorities, so trying to prove that Sickert wrote one or more of them doesn't prove that he killed anyone.")

Tom Cruise rocks out at Kanye West concert. Plus: Paris Hilton proclaims own album to be 'hot.' Somehow, this is not the title of an article at The Onion.

Someone at Paramount is harassing Fark?

O RLY? RIP. NO WAI!

The O RLY owl death is the best new of the week for me.

Now if only people will stop thinking they're clever for using this month's Internet Secret Funnyword I will be content with life.

i'm kind of considering terminating my services with Verizon now, but i wonder if any of the other cell phone providers aren't doing something as well.

See, if Verizon does it, why wouldn't everyone just leave Verizon? And doesn't Verizon know this? So I have this horrible feeling that the only reason Verizon would go ahead with this is that it knows everyone ELSE is going to do it, too.

i wouldn't get that suspicious quite yet. i wouldn't be surprised if they're betting on people just being too lazy to switch to another provider. people will be mad, but in the end it will just be "too much hassle" for them to get a new phone and number and they won't want to pay the $100+ cancellation fee.

At first I read your post as "Tom Cruise knocks out Kanye West at concert." Now that would be something I'd like to see. Not that I have anything against Kanye, but I'm sure we could all use some more Tomfoolery.

The full article the Boll snippet was taken from (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=62899). It has the whole "Fine, you won't have old Uwe Boll to kick around anymore" rant. Arguing that his movies do make money on the ancillary markets (Who's doesn't) and pointing out that average people don't make a big deal about how bad he is. (You know, because they never heard of him, his movies, and many times the games he based them on)

It appears after attempting to be an epic filmmaker with Dungeon Siege, Postal is just unapologetic trash.

Also...Ron Perlman is a comedic actor? I seriously can't remember a single humorous thing he's done. City of Lost CHildren comes closest.

lessien faster than I! Woe! Also worth listening to is the rendition of Aeris' death theme performed by mainstream-ish shima uta vocalist, Rikki, entitled 'Pure Heart', which was released [I think as a single] with the Final Fantasy X theme, Suteki da ne. Damn, now that's a run-on sentence. Along with the Uematsu tracks is the slightly more traditional Utikisama [composed by Rikki, herself, I hear].

They're all very lovely if you have or can develop an ear for shima uta styled vocals [though these are very mild as they are meant to be mainstream, of course]. =) *shutsupnow*

The Cornwell thing just cracks me up. I a thesis on Jack the Ripper, the Mythology, and the efforts to identify him around the time her special aired on 20-20. Everyone I spoke to, Historians, Criminologists, Ripperologists, all said exactly what I thought when I watched it... She's some low grade hack who was looking for some publicity; I'm surprised she doesn't end every sentence with "...like in my book "blah blah". STUPID MORON WOMAN! She actually still annoys me, 4 years later.

Also:
"It was erroneously reported that the O RLY owl was a snow owl at the San Diego Zoo by the name of Jonathan, and that he died in the first week of February, 2006, due to pneumonia. This was a HOAX, and in an email statement by the San Diego Zoo, they said, "We have not had that species at the San Diego Zoo for many years and have never had one by that name.""
