Feb. 16th, 2006 06:15 pmYou know, after paring away all the massively outdated links (most of them relating to Cheney), I realized... I really didn't have all that much linkspam backed up after all. Huh. I did update
dailydigestnews with some good stuff, however.
A (form) letter I just got from Common Cause--remember the Net Neutrality thing I linked to, like, twice? Yeah. It's worse than we suspected.
Dear Lauren,The threats to our Internet freedoms just keep coming. We learned this week that Verizon already has plans in place to create a privileged fast lane on the information superhighway to deliver its own services, and a slow lane for anyone trying to get anywhere else on the web.
Common Cause needs your help to keep the Internet open, fast and fair.

We've already sent nearly 60,000 letters to greedy telecom executives, and we're working on a series of reports to expose the shady tactics that these companies are using to convince our representatives in Congress to put an end to net neutrality.
We can do more with your help. We're more than 2/3 of the way to reaching our funding goal. Please help put us over the top!
http://www.commoncause.org/KeepInternetOpen
Thank you for all you do for Common Cause.
Sincerely,
The Common Cause Media Reform Team

Lost follow-up: Lost Media won't have screencaps up for a few days so I have nothing new to link to, but you may have noticed that the photograph the Army commander takes out, near the end of the episode? Is of Kate. He is, in fact, Kate's father. And we have seen him with Sayid before. Also, people are busy at work trying to translate the hieroglyphics, and so far I've seen three translations: SAYID, SAYIF ("say if"), and this.
First there were Freedom Fries... now there are Roses of the Prophet Muhammad.

Uwe Boll to Retire from Video Game Movie-Making. Because
Willie Nelson Releases Gay Cowboy Song. Oh, Willie, you trend-whore, you.
The Valley Girl URL Translator. The really funny thing to do is go plug the BPAL "Maelstrom"/Poe scents page into the translator:
"The Amontillado!" I said.EEEEE! Here's the Avalon-series pendant I commissioned from Wearable Sculpture (actual size). It's the tower of Condwiramurs. The hit of the series so far seems to be
"He! Like, oh my gawd! he! Like, oh my gawd! he!—he! Like, oh my gawd! he! Like, oh my gawd! he!—yes, the Amontillado. But is totally it not getting late? Like, I am so sure! Will not they be awaiting us at the palazzo, the Lady Fortunato and the rest? Like, I am so sure! Let us be gone."
"Uh huh, uh huh, right," I said "let us be gone."
"For the love of Gawd, Montresor!"
"Uh huh, uh huh, right," I said, "for the love of Gawd!"
Paris Exhibit Examines Picasso and Maar. I always liked his portraits of Dora Maar, and that whole period of his.
Greek Hiker Finds 6,500-Year-Old Pendant.
Cornwell to Help Solve Hunley Mystery. Oh, you mean the way she "solved" the Jack the Ripper case? ("Ripperologists and other critics of her theory point out that most, if not all, of the Ripper letters are considered hoaxes by all other authorities, so trying to prove that Sickert wrote one or more of them doesn't prove that he killed anyone.")
Tom Cruise rocks out at Kanye West concert. Plus: Paris Hilton proclaims own album to be 'hot.' Somehow, this is not the title of an article at The Onion.
Someone at Paramount is harassing Fark?
O RLY? RIP. NO WAI!

Also...Ron Perlman is a comedic actor? I seriously can't remember a single humorous thing he's done. City of Lost CHildren comes closest.

"It was erroneously reported that the O RLY owl was a snow owl at the San Diego Zoo by the name of Jonathan, and that he died in the first week of February, 2006, due to pneumonia. This was a HOAX, and in an email statement by the San Diego Zoo, they said, "We have not had that species at the San Diego Zoo for many years and have never had one by that name.""
