I'm kind of impressed that Locke could punch somebody hard enough for them to need stitches. But I've never needed stitches, so I don't really know what it takes.
Not happy that he punched Charlie.

I think it's easier to pop the skin over bones (like cheekbones), for which you'd need stitches.

Charlie's craziness has converted Claire! Jesus is happehhhhh with this episode.

Silver lining, y'all.

Oh, it's okay to be baptized as long as we never admit Charlie might have had a point.

To cast the Virgin Mary's sinless blessing over the hatch. Dur.

Only the religion geek in my would recognize that you can tell that Eko's either Catholic or Anglican by the way he baptizes (well, plus the priest outfits from the flashback).
If it had been a Southern Baptist, Claire would've been 100% under that water. And the baby wouldn't get anything.

From: [identity profile] phantomsangel.livejournal.com
The religion geek in me realizes that Eko doesn't know his theology very well. John baptizing Jesus didn't clear him of sin; most Christians believe He was already sinless. The bird appearing in the sky was accompanied by the voice of God telling the people that Jesus was his only son.

The purpose of this episode basically was to redeem Charlie after months of being a total jerkface. He's loveable again.

"I want Eko to baptize me." Says a friend of mine as we were watching. Me too. Me too.

Next episode we should be learning more about the island, so yay.

I can feel a little vain in my head start to go with the whole "ZOMGJESUS!" theme we have here. It's just that, and I don't know if it's just me and I'm paranoid, but that awkward phrasing of "If you are baptized you will get into heaven, but if you don't then you go to HELL!" thing just felt like a smack in the face to the rest of us non-Christian/Catholic/Jesus-lovin folk. It's bad enough growing up in a biggoted high and holy town but to get the same sort of "All you non-believers are going to hell!" message from tv is a little depressing. I don't mind that kind of religious imagery, in fact I often find myself researching and reading up on religious history, but it's irritating to have the message that just because I don't believe in it means that I'm a bad person who's going to hell shoved in my face like that.

From: [identity profile] snale.livejournal.com
Well, at least the way Locke says it, it sounds like a nice fairytale, not a religious edict.

Did anyone else get a funny feeling when Libby made up that story about Hurley stepping on her foot told Hurley she saw him on the plane?

Date: 2006-01-26 03:35 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bluthundur.livejournal.com
I agree.

I still hold that Libby worked at the hospital Hurley was a patient at. She was a clinical psychologist before the crash. Either she knows some deep dark secret that will be a big plot point later...or, more cute, she didn't want to bring it up in hopes of not embarassing Hurley.

OK some serious WTF action tonight.

Jack has issues - we knew that, and strangely I still don't give a shit. An Army? Dude, you downwind from that burning plane or sumthin?

So is Charlie nuts, or what? Impulse control not much, but still....

And all of a sudden Locke is Mr disciplinarian?

That just totally fuckin' blew me away. Totally didn't see that comin'. John just whipped around and fuckin' WHAM! My friends and I all started yelling and shit! Holy crap!

John has been acting so weird about Claire. Ah, my little closet JohnxClaire ship sets out in a sturdy little boat across the Pacific.

And. Baby in the Piano. Holy crap I want an icon of that.

And next episode! Hey! Others! LEAVE POOR SUN ALONE!
