Miscellaneous thoughts

Mmm, cinnamon toast.

Not having that great a day otherwise--trying to work, but the Death Crud is still lingering and I feel all ropy and logy and sludgy and dried out. But by God, I've sat here in front of an open Word document all morning and all afternoon. Also, it's (checks weather.yahoo.com) 57 degrees right now (oh, that's a LIE. It's 70 degrees in this house if it's five. Hmm. Maybe this is because Sister Girl has the heat on again. GAH), and we all know that these are conditions under which I cannot art.

A pair of scrunchy brown ankle boots that I ordered on a deep-discount after-Christmas sale arrived today, though. I got a brown purse for Christmas and realized that, for some reason, all of my shoes are black (or sneakers). Thus, something in brown. They're a bitch to get on, but plenty comfortable on and easy to get off. Eeeee, scrunchy boots.

I hope no one reading this has narcolepsy, because I have bad news for you. Seriously, if you do, read this, because Teresa Nielsen Hayden didn't find out that Public Citizen had successfully campaigned to have Cylert/pemoline discontinued until she went to refill her prescription: "Xopher and I and god knows how many other people with narcolepsy, ADHD, and other tricksy neurochemical impairments are looking at THE END OF OUR FUNCTIONAL WORKING LIVES." And if you do use Cylert/pemoline, you may want to take the Narcolepsy Network's advice to write letters of complaint regarding the ban.

(God, I wish I had the power to disemvowel comments sometimes.)

Meanwhile, I have developed a sudden lip gloss obsession that has caused me to sit on my wallet hands to prevent myself from buying hundreds of them (woe unto sephora.com!). Particularly since I got a ton for Christmas anyway, and between Burt's Bees and Tutti Dolci, I should be set. (I think those two are actually on sale right now, as a matter of fact.) I really want some Mabel's Laundromat balms, but I think I'm going to dangle those out as a reward for finished work. I said I wanted to finish things, right?

In other news:

Efforts to Find Miners [in mine explosion] Become Desperate. "The men, trapped 260 feet down by an explosion Monday morning in the Sago Mine, were believed to be about 12,000 feet past the opening of the shaft. By midday Tuesday, more than 30 hours after the blast, rescue teams had penetrated 10,200 feet, working their way on foot for fear machinery might cause volatile gases to explode."

TCU Freshman Kicker Found Shot to Death.

Scientists May Have Found Mozart's Skull. "The grave on that spot is adorned by a column and a sad-looking angel." As opposed to the IN YO FACE! angels you so frequently see in cemeteries.

Apparently Angelina Jolie really is pregnant. For those of you who care. I mean, I really like her. But it's not like we won't be beaten to death with the Saga of the Brangelina Spawn by the tabloids in the coming year.

Two Marie Antoinette pics.

Prince Caspian already under way.

How do you feel about adoring fans, Unca Neil? The answer is typical gracious Neil Gaiman, bless him. On that Grateful to Be a Writer note, I'm going to take a stab at another hour of staring at the screen writing before starting dinner.

While it's great that they found Mozart's head and all, the real question is WHY? What is the purpose of this? It's not like by finding it he'll suddenly write some more opuses (or is it opii).

What is the meaning!?!?

ZOMG TUTTI DOLCI!! What flavors did you get? *pets Bath and Body Works employee discount*

They're self-proclaimed literati, and they can't even manage to spell Edgar's name correctly? Shame, if not for the disrespect to one of my favorite authors I might go for the lip balm.

And their contact form doesn't seem to work correctly. They'll have to forge ahead in blind ignorance, enduring the snickers of people who are actually fans of Edgar's, not just people out for a quick commercial pun.

I've got the sludge too. Right now, it's sort of sloshing about in my head and throat and is currently preventing me from getting a good night's sleep. I've been feeding it with a steady dose of Final Fantasy (runs to check) IX and the occassional bursts of creativity in the writing department. FF has been winning out, though. *waves an 'I <3 Vivi' flag* Yay for insomnia!

[identity profile] lonesomepioneer.livejournal.com 2006-01-03 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
None of the GOOD Tutti Dolcis are on sale. Or at least none of the ones I want. But I'm totally hooked on Goldie (http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2096165&cp=2073258.2083078.2130320&cm_mmc_o=7BBTkw+-pcByplCjCVzbpmwzygtCjCftbyp+5zyfYCjCTBkpbw+kb5+TkBll&parentPage=family) lip gloss right now. Shiny, tastes great, mad staying power, and a great range of colors. Love!

The drug ban has to be the stupidest thing I've heard about today, and I spent half the day reading fark.com. What the shitting McShit, Nader?

Must...have...PoeMegranate lip balm...

And yay! Marie Antoinette pics! I can't wait for the movie; I randomly saw the preview playing in the lobby at the Rave a few weeks ago. It looks fabulous.

Hahahaha @ literati lip balm!

Hey, they should do a Tolkien one or a Rowling one. Wonder what flavor those would be?

[identity profile] doomcrayon.livejournal.com 2006-01-03 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmmm Burt's Bees. I am growing addicted to Burt's Bees lip balm; I keep telling myself that it isn't a full-fledged addiction until I have more than five. I have more than five. But there are circumstances.

[identity profile] modpixie.livejournal.com 2006-01-03 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
the second antoinette pic will be the wallpaper on my boyfriend's work computer within a week. he thanks you.

I think my only weakness when it comes to makeup are lipbalm and lipgloss. I own over 30. Burt Bee's are awesome. Mmm... they taste like doublemint gum.

Marie Antoinette? They're making a movie out of it? *bounces*

Marie Antoinette: the settings look right (either it's Versailles or they copied it faithfully) but the dresses! The make-up! The awful, awful colours! Shopgirls at best!!!

This (below) is what the dresses and hair should look like. (The one in grey is Marie-Antoinette. The other is madame de Pompadour, a bit earlier, but you see what I mean about the quality of clothing.)

How do I add you as a friend? Since you're such a friend whore. :) I can't believe I forgot how, it's been ages since I used LJ, and even when I used it I had no idea what I was doing. P.S. Your book isn't in the US yet, is it?

[identity profile] dramedy.livejournal.com 2006-01-03 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
So, for future refrence, people who bought your book on amazon also bought books by: Yu Watase, Clamp, Naomi Novik, Jon Stewart, and Gaston Leroux.
Mmmm lip balm...yaay more Narnia!! *dances*
Oh, and in Newsweek, HERE (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10663353/site/newsweek/) they had an article about pop phenoms like Lazy Sunday, and how people become famous over the internet. :o

I'm convinced they put trace amounts of crack in lipgloss, because I have an ungodly number of tubes but still must have more. More! I hardly ever even wear it, but it's just so sparkly and good.

The Sephora brand lipglosses are nice, btw, and much cheaper than most of the other brands they carry. Also, Pop Beauty. Pop Beauty is great (I have one gloss by them that smells like white chocolate, and another that smells like french toast). /makeup whore

2005 was the year of Every Celebrity on Earth Gets Knocked Up; logically 2006 will be the year of Every Celebrity on Earth Pops One Out.

Yayyyyy! Prince Caspian's a comin'! W00t!

As I mentioned above Cleo, I read that book again yesterday and I have now come up with a list of Narnia Pairing We Never Ever Want To See. (http://www.livejournal.com/users/bacardibreezer7/41973.html#cutid3) (Coz you just know that idiots on the intarwebs will be writing these pairings, just coz they can).

B&B W lip glosses

Weeeell, if you like Tutti Dolci (which I've been meaning to try, I'll grab one the next time I'm there), I'd recommend Jaqua lip glosses, they're from Bath and Body as well. They smell awesome. I got this (http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2095969&cp=2073258.2083080.2078942&parentPage=family) for Christmas. The pink one smells just like frosting, and the Caramel Cappuccino smells like...well, a Caramel Cappuccino. The Tuscan Orange is really nice, too. They're pretty damn good, I have to say.

They were on sale when we got them (I was raving about them when I went shopping with my sister, who then said she had to get a present for our aunt and grabbed the last one, and I wanted to kill her. But she ended up giving them to me, along with the clear C.O. Bigelow lip gloss, which is great too), so I'd check and see if they're on sale near you, too. After Christmas sales and all.

[identity profile] ineedtodance11.livejournal.com 2006-01-04 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I have the Creme Brulee Tutti Dolci (I received it for my birthday from my mother. I believe she found them at the Dollar Tree, if you can believe that!) and it is just such a WONDERFUL flavor. FYI. Lemon Meringue isn't half bad either...

If anyone, ANYONE ever fucks with my crazy meds of choice, Effexor or Ambien, they are going to have to deal with a homocidal, batshit crazy Texan cowgirl, AND I WILL BLOW THEIR FACES OFF.

I've sat here in front of an open Word document all morning and all afternoon.

Oh gosh, do I know what you mean. I hate it when I have the desire and time to write, and then I just end up staring at a blank document for hours. Torture. Hope the crud leaves you alone very soon, and that you are able to get past your block. (Also, it's been in the 60s here in NC as well, which I consider wrong on so many levels. It's January, for pete's sake. At least pretend like it might flurry a flake or two!)

I nearly bought some Tutti Dolci lip gloss when doing some Christmas shopping, but wasn't sure if they were worth it. Would you recommend then?

And lastly, just because: I love the word disemvowel. Way too much.

Nnngggh. Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette?? The girl can barely act her way out of a damp paper bag, and she looks like a Hollywood Hooker dressed up for Halloween in those pictures. Well, there goes that one.
