You guys, we need to have a talk.
"Your Lost discussion entry for this evening."

[zilch from you]

You're getting lazy and presumptuous, Cleolinda! How will you ever sell your books like that? Seriously. The masses will drift away if you stop entertaining them.

Don't mention it!

I did not find this comment, by itself, to be trollish. I thought that "Your Lost discussion entry for this evening" was a little curt myself, but I was in a hurry to get dinner started because Em was coming over to watch. I'm not sure how it was presumptuous, though, because whenever I don't post a discussion entry, people flip out asking where it is. I don't know why people want to talk here instead of an established Lost message board/forum, particularly since I don't participate or read the comments myself, but I figured, hey, it's a group of people who know each other from chatting on other entries; maybe they like the crowd.

I haven't posted a recap since the first episode, and I still have a few recaps missing from the end of last season. I've been in class, I've been sick, I've been burnt out. If the lack of recaps is such a serious problem that it requires anonymous tips, y'all need to let me know here and now, signed in under your LJ username.

And then there are the rest of the anonymous comments, which are, in fact, trollish. I know that some people came to my journal from following off-LJ links, and not everyone has a Livejournal. But I have blocked anon comments before and I will do it again, because I don't have time for this shit. I'm going to be charitable and assume that that was a one-time lapse of attention-whoring and that whoever it was got bored and left. All it's going to take is one more comment in that direction, and I will shut anon comments off until I feel good and ready to turn them back on, which might be sometime next spring.

If there is anything else you would like to discuss, now is the time. And I will shut it down if it gets rowdy.

The only person I find "presumptuous" is the one who expects a stranger to entertain him/her with a Lost recap RIGHT THIS MINUTE.

I friended you mainly for the Lost recaps, sure, but I completely understand that you haven't been feeling well/had time to do them, and I enjoy reading your non-fandom entries, anyway (the recent Sonic entry was great -- I love bad customer service stories (and bad customer stories, too -- I tell a lot of those myself)).

Uh, OK, that seems to be just a tad rude. (The anon person, not you).

I have nothing to add to this, really, only that people who demand you do these things are really rude.

And, uh, to echo [livejournal.com profile] restriction: "DANCE CLEO DANCE!"

Or not.

How rude.

Yeah, because you totally owe us something for reading your journal, right? How dare you not cater to us at all times!?! -_-

I'm sorry someone said something like that. Just know that the majority of the people who regularly read your journal arent such jerks. You know what? Most of us are smart folks that can discuss LOST all on our own. Thanks for giving us a central place to do it, weather you have time to chime in or not. <3

You're great!

I think people who post rude comments under anon are cowards. They sit there and make rude comments and don't even have the guts to say it under their own LJ names.

The same happened with my sister. (http://www.livejournal.com/users/apples_juice/155932.html)

And everytime someone does that, it severly pisses me off.

Hey people, take off your mask and face us like a real man next time!

Hi there! I rarely comment in here (sorry). I read your journal because you are amusing and you put up some interesting links.

I would like to let you know, though, that I personally believe that there is no reason for anyone to get rude on LJ. I've always believed that if you are upset and someone/thing, you don't HAVE to read the posts by that person or about that subject. From what I can tell, you aren't forcing anyone to read your posts. I have always felt that LJ is for fun, and if you don't like it, don't read it.

Also, it is a bit presumptuous of people to expect you to entertain them. You are a regular human being, who happens to be very funny. But that doesn't mean that you are always on stage for them. And, not to put you down, but are you the only thing they have to entertain them? As wonderfully funny as you are, there are other things in my life that entertain me. Can they not find anything else?

Just wanted to show a bit of support for you!

Just block anonymous comments, Cleo. Most people reading DO have journals and if the others want to comment so badly, well - LJ is free and takes all of two minutes to sign up to.

You're not being paid for this. God, people take this stuff for granted. -_-

Ailur took the words right out of my mouth. Block anonymous comments for a while Cleo until this dies down. People tend to forget you are doing this for fun, and at your own lesiure. It's not a written contract to entertain the masses on a weekly basis.

I read that comment last night and it made me so mad. I don't have LJ, so when I leave a comment now and then it's anonymous, and I was not a happy camper that MY comments could potentially be mistaken for this person's! I don't understand people who make comments like this anyway. If you don't like something, why take the effort to piss on it? Why not just go and do something else that you actually enjoy? Ugh, some people's children.

Ok, that's my rant, you can carry on now. :)

From: [identity profile] hurley-burly.livejournal.com
I'd lean toward turning off the anonymous posters, too, Cleo, since it's probably not hard to sign up enough to make a comment - but as Anony here says, sometimes you get quite nice comments from people who, for whatever reason, don't have an LJ account. (Horrors!) So let's hope it won't happen again. And Cleo, I'm sorry if I had anything to do with stoking the fire under last night's asshat.

Hey, Anony, good point! And I think it's interesting you say "some people's children." However old people are, sometimes, don't you just think, "Weren't they raised better than that? And if not, why not?"

But I'm looking at the world differently, now that I'm a parent.

This is totally, absolutely, completely off topic, but I just wanted to say that if I ever get back to Birmingham and we run into each other, I'm going to be really disappointed if you don't look like Galadrial, because that's who I associate you with now. I was walking by the TV a couple of days ago and it happened to be showing one of her scenes, and I was like, 'Hey, it's Cleolinda!' *headdesk*

And just to stay on topic, I'm surprised you're willing to put up with that kind of crap. You aren't obligied to entertain anyone, especially on your own journal. Just ignore the idiots.

Heh, I have the same opinion. Cleo was describing herself a little the other day, and I was thinking "yeah, she's got the long blonde hair, and the very attractive face, likes to wear lots of jewelry, has an ethereal glow about her and... wait, that's Galadriel. Nevermind."

gee, talk about "lazy and presumptuous"!

a. I'm too lazy (or chicken) to either get an LJ or sign in to mine.

b. I'm going to start telling Cleo what she should and shouldn't be doing with her on line journal even though I have no clue what her personal life is about.

"don't mention it" Don't mention what?. Your arrogant rudeness? Your apparent lack of knowlege of Cleo's life which has prevented her from keeping up with recaps? Well, gee, with such a loving and supporting attitude from you, I'm sure she'll get cracking right on them! (or NOT)

Turn off anon commenting, Cleo. You don't need this shit.

Block anon, or else just start a com like m15m for recaps, some people need UN established frontiers like that...

*hugs*

I don't think anybody who reads your lj regularly thinks that you don't have a life of your own. You don't need our permission to go ahead and live it. If you never catch up on recaps, or if you never have time to do them again, we have to respect that--and it's not as if they disappeared. You let us know what's going on.

The first couple of episodes this season sucked anyway.

P.S. WTF is up with all the bad hair lately? This is unacceptable.

Precisely. I tried a couple of other forums, but the folks there were either spoiling for a fight (to the point that posting anything was asking for trouble) or else there was zero funny. You, my dear, seem to attract the better Lost crowd. *grin*

I'm surprised you haven't been anon-disabled all along, or at least since you got so many more readers via m15m. Heck, my little blog is friendslocked and has 1/1000th the readership yours does, and I've got mine anon-disabled. (Which, come to think of it, is a tad redundant.)

'I know that some people came to my journal from following off-LJ links, and not everyone has a Livejournal.'

If someone without an LJ account has a genuine comment to leave for you, it's not like you don't have 59 quillion emails out there. Most trolls probably do have LJ accounts and are trying to get you mentioned in LJ Drama, but lack the spine to do so with a username attached.

You don't have time for this shit, and this is your journal, and you should feel free to do what you need to do to repel the trolls — and, sadly, there probably will be more where that came from — should you decide to do so.

And now for something totally different.

I imagine you're tired of hearing this, but don't fret about rude people. Just remember that this is some 12 year old who is on the PC and their parent is watching over them so they get to post rude things thinking they're acting mature when in fact all us mature people know that they are just booger-eaters.

Since this is your journal, you had asked that if anyone saw anything about this to let you know.

Just shy of 600 comments and just one person wants to wade in and pee in the pool -- yeah, that's about the universal attention-whore party-pooper threshold. Fantastic. Between this and the negative anti-review review, it's been a time of revelation in the internal machinations of those who feel compelled to seek out community and celebrity and attempt to poison them.

And I think it's your own grace and charity that doesn't find the original comment trollish. You got things to do that don't involve LJ. That's not a crime or a fault.

If the lack of recaps is such a serious problem that it requires anonymous tips, y'all need to let me know here and now, signed in under your LJ username.

Well, you do a better job than TWOP, honestly, but you're not getting paid as much, and it's mildly depressing to think of you toiling on a recap when you could be spending the time on Black Ribbon. Besides, you foster community even without a recap and a sorta-stream-of-community-consciousness wiki-recap forms in the comments, anyhow. So you sorta are doing a recap....

Don't let the bastard get you down.

Hey, I think there's one thing those people are forgetting... this is your journal, so that means you can have whatever content -you- want on it. You're doing something nifty by providing people a forum in which to talk, but it's not something you have to do. If you don't feel like writing an entry, well, that's entirely up to you, clearly, reasonable people are going to understand and respect that although you are a talented and amusing satirist appreciated by many, you are your own person, you don't exist soley for the amusement and entertainment of your fans...

I think I had a point, but my train of thought derailed, so I'll finish up with this - don't let the idiots get under your skin. (I'm sure that can't be good for the complexion) ;)
