Just linkspam, before I go see Elizabethtown:

New Bond chosen, with official PR photo. And it ain't Clive, either.

Expensive Harry Potter dolls AIEEEEE. I don't know, maybe it's just that I find boy dolls to be freakish. Probably because their hair never looks right and I'm not used to seeing the plastic objectification of male characters. Now, you come up with Hermione, Ginny, and some Patils, and we'll talk.

Also, I'm seeing doll porn in the HP fandom's future.

[livejournal.com profile] kraorh: "Speaking of Harry Potter, have you seen the latest Christian attempt to defuse his popularity? It's a comic book, significantly more professional than your typical Chick tract, called 'Hairy Polarity.' It's perfect - when you read it, at first you swear you're reading a parody of the Christians who hate Harry Potter, then it dawns on you - it's serious."

[livejournal.com profile] merry_holdwine: "the next time you make a links post, could you mention [profile] teh_weasle? The concept is very funny and will amuse all the HP fans ;-)"

[livejournal.com profile] lessien_c: "It would be a crime not to pimp this Flash vid by [profile] capnbob. It's basically a recap of the first season of Lost to the tune of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Helps if you know the lyrics beforehand so that you get all the references."

[livejournal.com profile] achipiquonque: "Cleo, you must see this. It's a flash "recap" of LOST."

Your Blog Should Be Yellow

You're a cheerful, upbeat blogger who tends to make everyone laugh.
You are a great storyteller, and the first to post the latest funny link.
You're also friendly and welcoming to everyone who comments on your blog.

Let's have a chat about pimping, shall we? I haven't made any kind of rules or policy clear, but I should probably tell you that the theory behind me putting links in my journal is that it should be something I found interesting and/or think you would be interested in. Therefore, if you link to news (weird, regular, movie or otherwise), celebrity gossip (KATIE HOLMES IS PREGNANT OMG), or good causes (just because), I figure, that's postworthy, and it saves me the time of looking for it. But I do reserve the right to say, "You know, I am deeply indifferent to [movie, book, or musician] and don't really feel like I should have to promote that," or "I like to post political items, but that's a bit more frivolous or inflammatory or biased than I really feel like posting," or "That link is kind of dodgy and possibly factually incorrect, and I kind of don't want to go there."

"Pimping," however, is something that someone else asks me to post that meets neither of those criteria--I didn't find it (because if I found it and want to pimp it, by God, it's my journal), and it benefits the pimper (or the creator) more than it benefits the readership. I had a Pimp Request Amnesty week last May, during which you could submit anything (within reason) to be pimped and I would do it. And I haven't had time to do it again, and it's been easier to just link to things rather than go through this whole "I'd tell you to wait for Pimp Amnesty Week, but I don't know when I'm having another one, so..." dance. So I've been linking to things, but generally putting people's usernames with the requests both as 1) credit and 2) sort of a disclaimer that I'm not the one actually promoting it. But the wording of comments/requests I've been getting lately suggests that people think that pimp links are something I'm soliciting, and I'm not. If you want to post a comment and hope that other people see it, you know, go for it. I'm not that big a Grinch. But lately I've been feeling a lot of pressure to post things I'm either not interested in or not all that willing to promote, and I feel like it's only fair to tell you guys that (because if I don't, how will you know?). So you can leave whatever in a comment if you want. If it's something of community or international interest--current events, charity, celebrity gossip, movie news--I will probably post it. If it's something personal you want pimped, for yourself or someone else, I'll probably leave it be. Because it's my journal, and I think people are getting confused as to what I actually want to use it for.

Don't worry about anything you've already sent me, because I wasn't clear about this before. I'm just saying, for next time.

That's odd, I could have sworn Harry's eyes were green, not Danielle Radcliffe's. *le sigh* I'm not one for getting all angsty about how the movies are not like the books, but seriously, if they're basing the dolls off of the actors and not the characters, then something's not right.

And are you sure that's not a parody of the Christian take on the book. Because I just started reading it and... I really don't see how someone can take it seriously.

Well, it's as my friend put it when she commented on it for my blog. The thing is, fundie Christians can't do satire. They're too sincere. But that sincerity gives them no real sense of humor or ability to consider alternate points of view, which in turn makes their own stuff impossible to take seriously. If that makes any sense...

The Harry Potter comic is absolutely frightening.

Holy crap, the LOST video is the funniest thing I've seen since "The Sawyer Song," and maybe even before that. Oh my God.

Swear to God, that thing made me scream out loud.
In a public place. (The flipside of having a laptop: having to disguise/suppress your personal reactions to intensely disturbing or funny material because you are in a crowded place.)
So I noticed the blue eyes on it...and even *I* know that ain't right.

Hmm. When I link to things, I don't expect you to pimp them-- I send them to you because I think that you might find them funny or interesting. If you then posted a link, I figured that meant that you thought other people might like to see it too, not that I expected you to do it as a favor.

I pimp, but it's just because I was amused by it-- has anyone else seen I Used to Believe (http://www.iusedtobelieve.com), or is it old news? It's all things people believed when they were kids, and it's quite funny. Also entertaining is Overheard in New York (http://www.overheardinnewyork.com) because, let's face it, NYC is probably the universal epicenter of really bizarre conversations.

Go have fun.

Oh, wow, that HP comic is the best crazy I've read in a long time.

Total hilarity: A sign at the bookstore reading, "Please think good thoughts for Dr. Bela Verbosi Author/Creator of Hairy Polarity. He is presently in a coma in the hospital." Watch out, kids! Writing about wizardry will make you comatose! (But being a wanker will just make you blind.)

And why is the angel of God a total anime mangirl?

There are more comics on that site, including one on how to properly hate homosexuals. There is not enough OMGWTF in the world to fully express my response.

I'm just boggled because Tonner doesn't usually do likeness dolls. The Wizard of Oz and Bewitched collections don't look anything like the stars, and all the marketing stuff stresses that they're not really supposed to. (Although the Wicked Witch of the West perched on my top shelf looks an awful lot like Idina Menzel instead of Margaret Hamilton.)

On the upside, his company makes damn fine quality.
