cleolinda: (GALADRIEL SMASH!)
[personal profile] cleolinda

If those kids down the street don't stop playing ding-dong-ditch with our front door, they are about to get pwned. By my stepfather. With his Army Reserve rifle. I'm just saying.

David, I think you wanted something like this?

New Orleans Police Beating Caught on Tape.

Tight security in New York, plotter may be in US.

Is Katie Holmes already showing? How far along is she, anyway? Was this whole crazy relationship really about getting Tom a biological child so he could ascend to the inner circles of Scientology? (You laugh, but I have heard that that is what it takes as you get higher up.)

"Bitch, where my nuts?" "I got your nuts, Cheeky, I got your nuts! Just gimme another hit, Cheeky!" (Thanks to psammead.)

Once again, it's the time of the year for snowflakes. (Thanks to mtolivepickles.)

A rough schedule of silverjewelryclub.com items coming up. And then take those pictures and resize them to roughly 80-85 pixels tall, and you can decide what you really want or not. (Oh, shit! That smoky quartz ring is actually my size!)

Do They Know It's Hallowe'en? "This fall’s sweetest – and scariest – benefit song is DO THEY KNOW IT’S HALLOWE’EN. This single features a star-studded ensemble known as the NORTH AMERICAN HALLOWEEN PREVENTION INITIATIVE. Both a trick and a treat, this song is a satire - as well as a charity-benefit song with all proceeds being donated to UNICEF. An epic journey into the pulsating heart of fear, this song is a call-to-arms featuring: Beck, Sum 41, The Arcade Fire, Sonic Youth, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sloan, Peaches, Feist, Devendra Banhart, Wolf Parade, Postal Service, Buck 65, comedian David Cross, Sex Pistols’ founder Malcolm McLaren, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, 60s soul legend Gino Washington, psychedelic singer Roky Erickson, Los Angeles 70s group Sparks, and Inuit throat singer, Tagaq (a frequent collaborator with Björk)." (Thanks to komalow.)

[livejournal.com profile] mokeyhokey: Just an FYI: the dharmaindustries.com site has been picked apart by the Lost fanboys at Something Awful (to the point of reverse-engineering the flash file, which, damn) and it does absolutely nothing. The WHOIS info on the domain strongly suggests that it's a fan-made site.

[livejournal.com profile] entropygoddess: It may interest you to know the "Author expelled after calling Harry Potter gay" story was apparently wrong and was withdrawn by Reuters. I have my suspicions they were simply alarmed to see the Internet slash community can of worms they had opened up with the original story. ;)

[livejournal.com profile] megalion: "BTW if you haven't already heard about it... probably would be fun for you and some of your audience: [Unknown site tag] - fan fic challenge, 100 pieces, no time limit, 100 word minimum. It's gotten me inspired to try my hand at writing fanfic when I never have before!" I actually did see this earlier today--I don't write fanfic, but the prompts/requirements are intriguing.

(What genre would you call Black Ribbon, if you're just having to choose from a drop-down menu? Horror? Historical? Science fiction... well, there's not much science, so... fantasy? Literary fiction? Uh... other? Oh, and I'm now Cleolinda on nanowrimo.org. Go here to actually join [livejournal.com profile] rosehannah, which will be closed for copyright-protecting purposes.)

About SJC packaging: when your pieces come in the mail, what do they come in? An envelope? I'm kinda worried about one of my roommates specifically or the RAs who sort the mail seeing the packages and, well, taking them. Do I have anything to worry about as far as someone looking at the envelopes/boxes/whatever and knowing what's inside, do you think?

Date: 2005-10-10 03:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com
They come in maybe 5" by 7" bubble mailers, fairly thin, USPS first class, Los Angeles return address, and no real indication of who it's from or what it is. (I have an empty one sitting on my desk that I'm looking at--I don't remember this from memory or anything.) Given that they ship a lot of small jewelry items, it makes sense that they'd be kind of discreet about it--it'd be way too easy for people to just run off with them. I think you'll be okay.

Katie pictures...something weird there...your bellybutton doesn't pop out until you're just about to drop the kid. (In most cases.) I don't think mine popped until month 9 or 10. (Yes, gestation is 10 months...they don't tell you that until after you're at week 36, and they say, just 4 more weeks.... and you're too fat to kill them. The bastards.)

New Orleans cops...not surprising. What is surprising is that two feds joined in.

From: [identity profile] lotusbiosm.livejournal.com
Yeah. Everybody always says 9 months, but it's 40 weeks, which if you do the math is ten. Maybe they think the placenta brain will keep you from realizing.

On the Katie thing, I think a lot of that is the effect of an unflattering top, and not being conscious of posture/sucking it in. I'm sure I often look at least that pregnant, despite being not in the least knocked up. I've seen pictures of Angelina Jolie lately speculating on her being pregnant that really just looks like the skinny thing maybe had a largish meal.

I've got half my orders in, the jewelry seems fine (if small, like I heard it would be), and they seem to have gone through the cycle of offerings at least once, and are adding more to this and the next cycle.

I wrote an Mac OS X Widget (that's a tiny computer program that can go out on the net and fetch info, like weather and such) for viewing your site, Cleo, and maybe some other Macintosh-using readers might be interested in a copy. (My main purpose in doing this was to learn how to write widgets, so there may be bugs, although I haven't found any yet.)

Here's a screenshot (http://www.seas.upenn.edu/~aperrin/widgetscreenshot.jpg), so you can see what it looks like.

And here's the widget (http://www.seas.upenn.edu/~aperrin/CleoWidget.wdgt.zip), saved as a zip file.

Hey Cleo- you're probably studying or buying BPAL or writing recaps or something right now, but I wanted to make sure you were OK- I saw a thing on the news about a house explosion in Birmingham, and immediately thought of you. I'm pretty sure it wasn't your house (dear God, I hope it wasn't), but still.

Man, I am so glad I got the link for the Silver Jewelry Club. I think that was one of the nicest things I've gotten my sister, and I didn't even have to hit up my dad for money to do it.

Also, the next time you're doing a link post, could you please pimp [livejournal.com profile] ficsforcharity? It's set up to try and raise money for the victims of the Pakistani/Indian earthquake. I realize that most people have already given up most of their spare cash to help with Katrina, but, alas, it seems like God/Mother Nature isn't done being angry yet.
